My wife & I had dinner here with another couple and had a great evening discovering our new favorite Thai restaurant! Our first impressions were; Homemade gelato in a Thai restaurant? Yea!!!!.....Clean, beautiful and bright décor, love it!!!.....Great location near Market & White Rose Diner (another favorite)! Service was slow as others here have stated but we forgot all about that when we got our food. Everything was made with fresh ingredients by the owner and was on par with best Thai food weve had anywhere & weve been around (retired military). Afterwards, we sampled the various gelato flavors which was an awesome finish to our fantastic dinner. The owners are a very personable retired military gentleman and his Thai wife who obviously take great pride in their restaurant. While the wife was doing all the grunt work in the kitchen, her husband, who makes the homemade gelato, engaged us in lively & entertaining conversation at our table. He not only makes the best homemade gelato on par with Little Italy in Balt., but he also made all the awesome furniture in the restaurant! He & his wife did all their own decorating as well. We love to dine where the owners and staff are passionate, creative, friendly and part of the dining experience and this place has all that and more. Sure, the service might have been slow but we could have stayed even longer (we actually stayed after closing as we lost track of time). The wait staff were engaging, friendly and obviously love their jobs as well. The positive & creative energy just flows naturally here to create an exceptional dining experience. Esaan is our new favorite Thai restaurant now and we will be back often. The owner mentioned that parking for their dinner operation is as close as the open parking lot directly behind the restaurant (just disregard the reserved parking signs after 5pm). Try this place; just be in the moment and enjoy the great food, great energy and overall experience.

I live about 5 minutes walking distance away from Esaan & thought I would go there with my boyfriend for a quick bite to eat. First we had to wait almost an hour for a table, then the menu had only a few items on it compared to other Thai places Ive eaten. Nearly TWO HOURS later, our disappointing dinners were delivered to our tables. Yes, I suppose the vegetables served in my Pad Siew were fresh, but everything was bland and tasteless. My boyfriends shrimp stir fry was delivered with THE TAILS ON which meant he had to dig through his hot plate to de-tail the shrimp that were apparently frozen and TASTELESS as well. I dont know how they managed this, but even the hot sauce was NOT hot!?! This was my boyfriends first time here, so needless to say HE will never be going back. There was ONE waiter for the entire restaurant which was jam-packed (only 24 or 28 seats available in the place) and the owner proceeded to schmooze and chat with his friends who were eating there while making NO EFFORT to help serve or make things go more smoothly for everyone who was waiting for their food. Another table of 4 had 2 plates come up while the other 2 people sat there and waited for at least another 15 minutes for their dishes to be served. Another customer was told there was no brown rice when they tried to order that (for an added cost, no less). All in all, this experience was a nightmare & I will be hard-pressed to give this place another chance as my first lunch time experience there over a year ago was not too good either.

Seriously slow and unfriendly service. My friends and I (party of 3) arrived for lunch at noon. Waitress took our order approximately 15 minutes later. 50 minutes later we still had not gotten our food. I had to leave to go back to work. My friends waited a total of 1 hour 15 minutes for theirs to arrive. I have eaten here before and enjoyed the food but not even on a busy lunch day is an 1 hour and 15 minute wait for food is acceptable. The waitress was not in the least bit gracious or accommodating, never brought the water I ordered and gave me a dirty look when I asked if my food could be brought out in a to-go box. I gave 3 stars for the quality of the food the last time I ate there about a year ago but i will likely not return. I have no idea whether the food today was good as I never got to try it

I was really looking forward to eating here after reading the reviews, but it didnt live up to my expectations. I have eaten a lot of Thai food and while it wasnt bad, it wasnt anything to write home about. The location is nice and the overall ambiance was great for my wife and I to get away from the kids for awhile, but the food wasnt what I was hoping for. The soup wasnt very spicy, the Laab wasnt very flavorful, and my wifes Pad Thai had a strong vinegar taste to it. Portions were also small for what you pay. Presentation was nice. Service was sort of slow. Overall not a terrible experience, but not what I was hoping for.

Really really great food :) We went to this place for dinner after our Arts Fair where I do natural Henna Designs in York, PA. They have pretty good Gilato ice-cream as well which is on my list for next visit. Their crispy spring rolls... so good that we ordered second round when we were eating our main meal. I ordered Pineapple curry and it was yummy. Ohh and they had their special of the day I guess for Mothers Day soup "Asparagus & leek soup" which was a trial run for chef. It was just too good. I told them to have that on menu more often. This is going to be our to go place in York for sure.

First visit. Very good Thai place. The food was yummy, the ambiance is cozy, clean and modern, the value is good for what you get. The only improvement could be made is in the service. Though its nice and friendly, but not attentive when you REALLY need it and VERY SLOW. we were the first ones for lunch at 11am and it still took more then an hour to get out the door. A bit frustrating. Either they have to have more waiters or more staff in the kitchen. But if you are not in a hurry its a nice place to have a meal.

My husband and I went to Esaan for the first time on our anniversary and were totally impressed. The employees were very friendly, the restaurant was clean, well decorated and inviting and the menu was varied. When the food came we were in shock--the portions were huge and the food was amazing!! (Be warned though, the hot sauce is HOT!) This is a great getaway in York, especially if you have the hankering for Thai food or just want to try something new/different!

The best Thai place in York! My wife and I have been going to Esaan since they opened and every family member or friend we take is hooked instantly! The owner is very friendly and talks to everyone to ensure quality of food and service. Make sure you try the peanut sauce and the Gelato!!!! The only downsides: Limited seating (make reservations on a Friday or Saturday) A little pricey (BUT you get what you pay for!)
