Holy Smokes what an amazing evening. We were a large group with a variety of tastes. The best part about eating at Root was that there was something for everyone and their selection of tapas was perfect for sharing. You just might have to order a few plates of the same thing because everything is so tasty. Make no mistake about it, you are in for a quality meal when you are here. This is not a large restaurant but the menu was interesting ranging from Steak Tartar, Beef & Pork Meatballs, Pennsylvania Trout and Lamb Chops. We decided to share appetizers with my favourite being the warm olives, the tomato toasts (it reminded me of the toast I had in Barcelona), the mushroom croquettes and the seasoned chickpeas (we order 3 of those plates). Dont miss the hamon iberico and the cheese platter - exceptional. The wine choices are varied with great suggestions for pairings with our entrees. The staff was very attentive and the owner and chef were gracious in their suggestions for meal and wine pairings. The decor is 1960 or early 70s. The vibe was so go. Oh.so.good. Relaxed and enjoyable. The bar is in the centre and having a drink at the bar is fun so you can take everything in. What a great place to people watch. The food was unbelievable . You have to go!

Expectations exceeded!! Upon entering this small restaurant in Fishtown, the hostess greeted me and I said that I was here for my reservation. She said "welcome Chris". Wow!! *clearly I was their only party of 1 at that time, but still - personalization is something that doesnt happen often in restaurants. I appreciated that touch.* Started with a tasty and interesting gin tonic made with sage and grapefruit! Sounds like a weird flavor combo, but it was so good! I ordered the cauliflower and manchego salad to start - its ok. Not something I would come back for. Then moved to the beef and pork meatballs - best. meatballs. ever. I almost ordered a second serving, almost. The decor is a modern retro, if that makes sense. I love it. Lots of teal, yellow, and wood. When the weather is nice, they open up the big garage style doors and set some tables on the sidewalk.

While I enjoyed everything I ate and the ambiance was interesting and comfortable, I dont think Root lived up to the hype. For the prices, servings were meager. The best item I ordered was my cocktail (and the other cocktails the group ordered). I loved the fresh ginger flavor in my mule, and the gin and tonic #4 was refreshing and lemony. Service was top notch - from the hostess to the wait staff to the bartenders. All staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. I dont know if Ill return, but if I do, I hope they install door hooks in the beautiful restrooms. This corner of Frankford is changing quickly.

I would rate Root 4.5 stars out of 5. After only being open for 4 months I was very impressed with Root. From calling to make a reservation to the service at the restaurant, I was very impressed. It is great atmosphere and everyone in my party enjoyed the wine and the tapas style dishes that we ordered. A couple people at the table ordered from their Gin and Tonic menu and not only did the cocktails look amazing, but they also tasted amazing as well. I was thoroughly impressed and will definitely be going back to Root again in the very near future for another incredible meal.

Very pricey for very average food and average service. Had the #1 gin and tonic for 12$. It came in a short glass 1/3 full. Keep in mind there were ice cubes, thyme, an olive, a lemon slice, and a slice of lime. The cavatelli was very nice and the portion was reasonable. I wouldnt go back again unless friends insisted we go.

The excellent drinks saved the horrific menu. My girlfriend and I are open to eating a wide array of foods but we couldnt find a single thing on the menu that sounded appetizing. The drinks we ordered were impressively well made, so theres the reason for the extra two stars. Advice to mgmt: expand the menu selection.

We traveled a few hundred miles just to try this restaurant brunch. It was superb ! The Turkish poached eggs with yogurt where amazing. I had to try other items in the menu and even the lemon pancakes where so fluffy, light, and tasty ! The hosts are amazing and very welcoming, we hope to come back soon for dinner.

Best meatballs I have ever had... EVER. The burger was also phenomenal and I am somewhat of a burger snob. The meat was so tasty and juicy, slightly aged... so good. Great atmosphere and its definitely a hopping spot Friday Nights!

Great vibe; hostess and servers are welcoming; food is top notch and wine selection is attractive. Steak Tartar; and Chicken Liver Toast are must haves! Cavatelli with shrimp is amazing with just the right amount of heat.

The food is good. I find the menu to be a little weird. It goes from burgers to expensive lamp hops. Is this pub grub or high end. Its all very good, but I find their fare impossible to explain.

Great food. They have la columbe coffee. The servers are pleasant and attentive. The owner remembered us from the last time we were there which was surprising and awesome. Definitely recommend.

Even on a slow night due to weather, excellent service, delicious and well executed food. Gnudi is delicious as well as the mushroom croquettes. Great little spot, very well decorated too.

The steak tartare is my personal favorite. Always great service by Greg and his team. Highly recommended for a party of 10-12, but book in advance. They are always accommodating.
