Myself and two friends ate here Saturday night. I had made the reservations based on positive reviews and the best of Philly award as we love to frequent BYOs. When we arrived, we were offered a table that was right by the door when there were two 4 person tables available at the same time. We were told that they had a party of 6 coming in for those two tables. We accepted the seat closest to the door but then were irked to see a party of four take the table we had just been denied. I had read that the service of the hosting staff was receiving some harsh reviews so we were watching for it. Our server was excellent as was the speed of the food as it was brought out. The menu includes a 4 course 3 dollar menu which includes EVERYTHING on the menu - it was a great value and the food was very good. I have to agree with some of the other reviews - I think the best of philly may have killed something that used to exist here. The ambiance was nothing special and I do partially attribute that to the seat we were given. All in all - I would endorse it for friends for the value and the food but I would vote myself to try a new place over returning there.

Friends and I went to the restaurant on an early reservation - 5 p.m. We had a table for four in the front by 5:45 the place had filled up and as the evening went on the noise level increased to a point where we could not hear the person next to us The food was delicious. Each course was the right size, filled with interesting and complementary flavors. The mussel antipasto course had a delicious red sauce, the pulpo was tender, and each of the main courses were delicious. Would we go back? No. Why? We believe the dining experience is a shared one with friends. There are lots of great restaurants in Philadlephia where the food is delicious and you can enjoy the meal with good conversation. Unfortunately, this is not the place! The service personnel were attentive and friendly but the restaurant was understaffed and as the evening wore on we saw less and less of them. All in all it was a disappointing experience. It could have been much better.

Simply the best restaurant in the mid-price range - anywhere! Its not a "red sauce" place and has the most amazing combination of ingredients to satisfy anyones taste. Vegetarians can do very well here as do the rest of us omnivores. The "tourist" menu of four courses is a steal and the service is outstanding. We go as often as we can, we live in Delaware, and each time leave believing that we each just had the best meal(s) ever. We dont expect a typical generic and alleged "Italian or "faux-posh" American décor, because Modo Mio reminds us of the small trattorias we visited during our travels to Italy - we go for the unique food and for the remarkable ways in which its prepare, not to mention the most outstanding service. If you are a one-and-done diner who just wants to eat at a variety of places but dont really care about finding a go-to restaurant, then I would imagine that you wont "get it". Modo Mio is fantastic and one of Philadelphias true gems!

Thats kind of a a strong thing to say, but I absolutely mean it. Just went here this evening. While a small place, the decor was modest and comfortable. The lights flickered a bit every once in a while, but when youre among friends, you rarely notice such a trifle of a detail. Our server was wonderful. She was upbeat and spoke clearly above the din of the restaurant. She also seemed genuinely hospitable and passionate about the menu, and was able to offer wonderful recommendations. She always came to check on us at just the right times, so that we didnt feel hurried or bugged. As for the food, it was absolutely divine. I had the mussels in red, spicy, lasagna, and swordfish. We shared the rest of the courses. For the size of the meal, the pricing is pretty great too! I would recommend this place to anyone. Definitely one of Phillys finest.

Generally when I think of Italian food in America, I think of averagely created "traditional" dishes. My experience at Modo Mio was a pleasant departure from my existing prejudice against Italian restaurants. I was more than pleased with the execution of every dish, first to last bite. Intending just a quick bite, thankfully, our server sold us tactfully on the "tourista" tasting menu, which is well more than worth a meager $40, for the chance to try several dishes (that we could bring our own wine was an added bonus). The meal capped with a shot of sambucca, and a chat and glass of wine with the chef, was a complete success, I will be back. You are appreciated.

On June 5th I had dinner there with 3 other people. It was oppressively hot. I told the hostess and she said it was hot. Upon leaving I told her again how oppressively hot it was and that I would never go back. She then said shed turn the a/c up. I called on June 8th and spoke with the manager. He told me it was very hot on that night and it turned out the a/c was not functioning. He got my address and advised me that he would send me a gift certificate for the unpleasant experience. He told me he valued our business and did not want to lose us as customers. It is now June 27th. I suppose he did not mean what he said. I would not recommend this venue.

We went to Modo Mio Sunday night and had the "6 course" Sugo Sunday. It was a HUGE disappointment. We had been to Modo Mio before and loved it and expected the same, fresh, interesting food. Instead, it was old, salty food that was not fresh and was most likely leftovers from the week before. We all had stomach issues that night into the next day from the hodge podge of food. I would NOT recommend this and I think management should do something about the so called "6 course meal" that was actually a three course nightmare. Overpriced and awful food. Major disappointment and none of us will ever go back!

Let me start by saying we had 8:00 reservations and we were seated at 8:05. The restaurant is ugly and run down looking and kind of dirty looking in my opinion. No atmosphere at all. You can see that the owner puts not one penny into the restaurant. The table and chairs are ugly the walls are ugly and you sit on top on one another!! 3,000.00 can improve the look of this restaurant in 3 days!! Spend some money....will ya!! The food was good...not great!

This place is hands down my favorite restaurant in all of Philadelphia. I have never ever had a bad dish here and the service is always impeccable. I always reccomend Modomio to friends and family because they are guaranteed to have a great experience. The prices are reasonable, especially with the prefix menu, and the wine and spirits store across the street caters to the byob-ers perfectly. Modomio, keep doing what your doing!
