This is a nice, quaint place. It has a cozy atmosphere, with a throw together style, which gives it an almost homely feel. The staff are nice and dressed in the very appropriate hipster garb. My main dissatisfaction stems from the poor design choices. Such as the tables, which are seemingly made out of scrap wood screwed together, the problem with these tables is not the materials, but instead is the fashion in which they were assembled; leaving sixteenth inch spaces in-between the boards. Into these viods fell the crumbs of long forgotten meals, and were left festering in their solitude. It is more the byproduct of the lack of forethought, than negligence. Another such flaw is the positioning of the door, which is situated in one of the main seating rooms. Every time the door is opened the poor souls sitting in said area are besieged by a rush of outside air (Which if Im being honest threw off my vibe; Not groovy!). All in all this is a good place to get in tune with your inner zen, update your blog, or simply enjoy the passage of time. For the food is good, the people are pleasant, and its just a short Penny farthing ride from the center of Kennett!

This place is fantastic. My only regret is that I dont live closer otherwise I would be a regular. The service upon walking in was super-friendly and when I posed a question about my particular favorite coffee (a flat white) the owner/barista extraordinaire was happy to chat. Not only was he knowledgeable it was just a lovely exchange with someone who really cares about (and knows a lot about) coffee. All of this without the arrogance and attitude of a lot of local coffee shops I have tried. The Cortado was amazing and something Ill be having again. I also had a croissant from the case and it was fantastic. I came to Kennet Square for a dinner with friends at Talulas Table (AMAZING) and was thrilled to find Philter in the morning by chance - its the reason Ill make the drive back to hang out for the day. LOVED IT.

Philter is the quintessential coffeehouse experience. Chris and his team brew artisanal, fair-trade coffee that is as premium as it comes -- I didnt even DRINK coffee before Philter, but I was won over with the creaminess of their manual brews. Its a perfect place to hang out for hours, which I do as a photographer when I am in editing mode. And, lastly, Chris has become so much a part of the Kennett Square community that this place truly is a hub of the life of the town during daylight hours. One of my favorite places in the world, and my daughters, too!

I came in to Philter an hour ago and ordered a coffee. The girl working told me they stop brewing coffee at 3 because a lot of it goes to waste. Hmmm - they dont brew coffee at coffee house? I have sat here for an hour and literally observed 5 people come in, order coffee, and leave because they dont have it. Additionally, I asked for a splash of soy milk in my espresso, and the girl charged me 75 cents for about a teaspoon of soy milk. I like the atmosphere here, but the customer service needs work.

I have only been here a handful of times since I live in DE, but this is my favorite coffee shop in the area. I love the atmosphere and the seats by the window, I love their food, and I love their lattes. I brought my sister here last month. She is in the military and just spent the last 2 years travelling all over Europe and Africa. She is also the person who got me into coffee shops. The breakfast sandwich she had here was "the best she ever had". love this place!

Great coffee in a great atmosphere. Philter has become the place for people to meet in Kennett Square, and youll regularly see people from local government, civic groups and more, meeting and working together for the community- over coffee at Philter. The coffee and food are exceptionally good, and they have decent wifi, making it the local center for folks who telecommute but want to get out of the house.

I go here all the time! I love the coffee and the staff are fantastic! They remember my order since Im a regular, they consistently make good coffee, and they are always so happy to see me. Its such a comforting atmosphere, a great place to study and work, and you see the same people regularly, making it feel like a community meeting place. I love Philter.

Love this place. Good coffee, the house blend is just about the right balance of bold without the burnt you get at other places. Its pleasant but not pretentious, cool without feeling overly trendy. Good coffee, good sandwiches. Just wish they had the Kale and White Bean soup more often. Ive been back about 10 times and am on my way there now.

Coffee is very good, they use ceremony coffee as their roaster. I always order a breakfast sandwich or oatmeal and the service is very fast and the food is great. My favorite is the window seat with the plants. Great staff.

Really nice place, good espresso, good coffee, nice atmosphere and good employees, overall I was quite happy with it. Nothing crazy amazing but a great place and I doubt you can get better coffee any where in the area.

This is a great place to have breakfast, lunch, or just a coffee with a fresh pastry. The people behind the counter are super friendly and helpful, and everything I have had so far has been very fresh and tasty.

Food is really good, but the coffee can be a bit disappointing. Their coffee usually has a vegetable-like aftertaste that leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth. Good atmosphere, nice staff.

Cool place, espresso is top notch. For their pour overs they use a bonavita immersion/pour-over hybrid, so their cups have a lot of body and taste more like a french press.

Very hip local coffee shop. Definitely the place to go if you identify yourself as a "hipster". Plus they have great coffee drinks made by the so called "hipsters"!
