We were in Jim Thorpe for a weekend away, sans kids, and wanted something casual and good. After a terribly disappointing meal at the Broadway Grill the previous night, our expectations were quite low. How refreshing to walk into Stone Row, and even without a reservation, we were greeted promptly, and seated upstairs in the pub room. This building, I should say pair of buildings, has been restored and brightened, with clean grey walls and crisp white original moldings. You can still see evidence of the original craftsmanship in the rounded plaster corners and the quirky stairways. Cloth tablecloths and substantial cutlery were a plus, but cloth napkins would have been more in keeping with the style and tone of this lovely spot. Our waitress was charming and efficient, friendly without being intrusive. The menu was broad without being cumbersome, with fresh ingredients and some great choices for those avoiding gluten. I enjoyed a Cleopatra salad with a plump, moist grilled chicken breast, Parmesan cheese, and delightful dressing which complimented the salad without overpowering it. My husband had the steak salad. He really enjoyed the sliced flank steak with baby spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, sauted mushrooms and onions, topped with a homemade balsamic vinaigrette which was exquisite. We were hoping for a good cup of coffee to finish our meal, and again, Stone Row was up to the task. Their mellow, smooth as silk coffee was "cold soaked". Im not exactly sure about what that whole process involves, but the result was excellent coffee. A minor point, but fresh cream in a little jug would have gone along with the coffee much better than those little sealed cream cuplettes. On to desert, and once again, memorable. We enjoyed Bananna Bread Pudding and Chocolate Ganache in a tea cup. Both deserts were made from scratch, wonderfully sweet and creamy, and.....well, yum! We spoke with the owner who was very friendly, giving us directions to the fireworks as we left. All in all, a stunningly good meal, at a really great price, in a charming venue..... couldnt ask for more. I would put it on the top of you list of places to dine in Jim Thorpe.

I have never experienced anything like the Stone Row Pub. We arrived with a party of 7. Even with few people in the restaurant, service was slow. We ordered coffee which was $4/cup. Upon asking for cream, we were told that they prefer we do not use cream and the server left the table. A request for sweetener was left unanswered. The menu featured a Sunday Brunch, which many of us were prepared to order. Too bad, they weren’t doing brunch on this particular Sunday (no mention of this when we were seated). Ok, we order quiche. Oops, no quiche either. Another couple of minutes are given to peruse the ever-more-limited menu. The server returns, this time we order the only other normal thing on the menu – hamburgers. The server basically refused to take the order, and told us that we could get burgers anywhere, and that we should select something else. Tension is mounting at the table so my wife starts to order for our daughter. The menu shows toast and cheese as part of several dishes so we figure that they can at least make her a grilled cheese. Nope, can’t do it. At this point, we cut our losses, paid for the coffee, and started to walk out. There was a half-hearted offer to make the grilled cheese after half of our party was already outside looking for anywhere else to eat, but we decided it was best to just leave.

I want to give a good review because I have had a good experience in the past. We had a bad experience last week and have heard that this is not an isolated incident. We went to dinner at 8:30 and was told that they had stopped serving dinner. The normal cut off time was 9pm but for our day it was when we arrived. My wife has Celiacs and I explained that we didnt have many options for gluten free in Jim Thorpe. I said we could eat something simple or what every they have prepared. They said sorry. They didnt even ask us if we wanted to have a drink. We ended up going to Moya down the street and very glad that we did. Night and Day experience compared to Stone Row. I guess all good places start to go down hill. If you want to be treated rudely, head here.

Very disappointing. Located in what was once the Black Bread Inn, it does have its charm; however, the pub and bathrooms are upstairs and accessed by steep, shallow steps that are rather tricky. The bar is situated so close to the stairs that it easily gets crowded, preventing movement to/from bathrooms, up/down stairs, or even just accessing the pub at all. Acoustics are awful so its always loud, making it extremely difficult to hear anyone and impossible to have a conversation because everyone there is trying to be heard over the next guy. Drinks are skimpy, food portions tiny, but somehow they dont see fit to skimp on the price. Weve been there a few times, thinking maybe the last time was an off night, but we wont go back.

I have eaten in a variety of restaurants in Jim Thorpe on a regular basis. This one is to be avoided. The menu was very limited and pricey. The food was inedible. I do not recall another time that I have visited a restaurant only to find that I could not eat the food served. When I complained, nothing was really done except to offer me more of the same thing. The service was fine, the establishment has no character, especially for a dining area in this location. The experience was memorable only in the fact that the food was not well prepared. My daughter, who eats vegan on a regular basis was similarly disappointed. The bottom line is the food has to taste good and it clearly didnt. I would stay away from this one.

The specials tonight were Irish beef stew (Guinness) and chicken pot pie. I had the stew and it was perfect! Ive grown used to having "too salty" beef and this was just perfect. Tender beef, carrots and potatoes in a non salty base. Amazing! We eat here at least twice a week and have never been dissatisfied. Very accommodating staff and owner. We always feel welcome and enjoy the full mellow coffee, bread pudding and other desserts. The samosa burger isnt always available but is always my favorite "burger ". Ask for the pepper chutney or Margarets special jalapeño chutney if you like spicy things! You wont be disappointed.

We wanted to try something different. This was just that. Keep an open mind as this is not a typical bar with typical bar food. Healthy vegan options as well as quality organic food. Only four stars as the wait staff was light with the bar tender waiting the tables in the bar area. Had to wait until I was finished my meal to get a refill on my drink. Very friendly and nice staff. Reservations recommended. Parking is limited. Better off parking at the train station and walking up.

Lunch was a bowl of over cooked, greasy, flavorless pasta and flavorless "house" focaccia. This after a 20 min wait with tables empty. The menu is extremely limited, not in a good way. Its pasta, burger, salad and a couple of oddball appetizers. It feels like theyre trying to hard to be "fancy" and have forgotten the basics. The attitude of were "haute" needs to chill while they relearn how to do simple things, like cook pasta and make pesto.
