Restaurant opened at 11:00 am , yet the staff wasnt very welcoming to us when we arrived at 11:35am on a Monday. Perhaps it was a language barrier, but the Sushi chef completely ignored our questions and we had to wait around 10 mins before someone approached our table. While we were eating, the chef sat at the sushi bar to enjoy a bowl of soup. A female customer sat next to him at the counter and asked if they were open for business. He ignored her also and moved to another table. The woman sat for another 5 mins without being approached and then abruptly left, obviously disgruntled. At this point, we then saw the chef pick his nose while sitting at the table. We ordered a lunch special of 20 pieces of sushi and each ordered a bowl of seafood soup. While the soup was tasty, we were disappointed that we were not able to choose which rolls the chef would make. We were told that the chef decides what we will eat. The sashimi presented was indeed fresh, but the normal portions of tuna, salmon and yellowtail. Upon finding my way to the restroom, I noticed a woman, that appeared to be the owner, sittting at one of the tables in the middle of the restaurant, preparing pork dumplings. Why she chose to do this in public view, instead of the kitchen, I am not sure. Pricing was quite reasonable, but the dining experience did not move me enough to brave a return trip.

Weve just returned from a great evening at the Sampan Inn. I have to say that after reading the reviews, we went to this restaurant prepared for poor service but as it turned out, that wasnt necessary. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted very friendly. When we sat down, we were served very nice tea and all the food was served in a timely manner by a very friendly waiter. His English may not have been the best but we couldnt complain about his service, he was polite, friendly and helpful. It was Monday, (maybe that made the difference..?) and we had no complaints whatsoever, maybe the sashimi pieces were a bit too big (says my partner but you wont hear me complain about that at all.) I would recommend this place to anyone, have nothing bad to say about it. We had the steamed dumplings and a sushi and sashimi platter and the dancing dragon. Delicious fresh fish! Also had great pear flavored sake and soporo beer. Would eat here at least once a week if I lived here. Love it!

Very disappointed, I ordered a platter of vegetable tempura for $13.95 expecting fried vegetables with at least noodles. But I only received a large plate of fried vegetables and when I asked the waitress if it came with noodles she started laughing and saying no you only ordered vegetable tempura and thats only vegetables cause its a dinner size. I told the manager that I was very disappointed that the dinner platter for $14 only came with fried vegetables and no noodles, he then proceeded to laugh along with the waitress. I have been coming there for at least two years with my friend who lives in the area. All the waitresses and the manager started laughing, horrible customer service, because the managers and waitress were continually arguing with me.

The food was fine and we have eaten here several times. But on our last occasion the waitress spilled an entire glass of red wine on my new white cotton pants. Okay, mistakes happen. I wasnt happy, but I didnt complain too much or make a scene. She never offered to replace the spilled glass from the bottle we had purchased. And when the bill came I was even more surprised that they did not compensate me for my meal, or the bottle of wine at least. I should have asked to talk to the manager but I think I was too much in shock. I asked the waitress if she would compensate me for the dry cleaning of my pants and she smirked and said "sure". Needless to say we did not leave a tip that night and will not return for another meal here.

Cant beat the Sampan Inn! This is my familys go to Chinese spot, been customers for years. Their food is consistent. You can count on your favorite dish (I highly recommend General Tsos Chicken) being the same taste and quality every time. The service is not great, but Ive gotten used to it, Ive never talked to the Sushi Chefs though. Their food is great. The decor is very plain and classical in the Chinese dining room, but very nice and renovated in the Japanese dining room. I recommend the Japanese dining room though because it nicer and you can still order Chinese. The one bad thing is that the prices have gone up a little in the past years, but still not bade at all. Overall, this place is solid and I highly recommend it.

this is his father not vinny silver, have eaten in a couple of times but mostly take out, the order taker needs to learn the english language read and understand it, second they need to makre their mustard and oil containers larger, instead of the small ones they give you and third, they need to be more pleasent when you ask for more when they dont give you enough, AND FOURTH, THEY NEED TO BRING YOU YOUR FOOD WHEN THEY MAKE A MISTAKE AND FORGET SOMETHING, INSTEAD OF MAKING YOU HAVE TO DRIVE BACK,

Over 8 years ago on the day we moved to Havertown, we had dinner at Sampan Inn and it was great. Weve been back many times since, and had their take-out food from time to time too. Besides good food and a wide variety of foods, the service is excellent too. On a recent experience we had a fine conversation with a very interesting waiter who told us about his experiences living in China. All in all, a fine place to eat and the best Chinese food in the area!

my girlfriend and i have made this our regular restaurant for nights out. unfortunately, this means that we are now spoiled and can rarely enjoy sushi at any other restaurant. The maki are reasonably priced and the sushi are generously portioned and always fresh and tasty. another dish i routinely enjoy is the yaki udon. incredible. no one i know has ever had a bad meal at this place, so it is highly recommended.

Have bought take-out from them many times before. Just picked a takeout order that based on their online menu was $26 ... $33.28 says the lady. I said thatas not correct based on online menu. Seafood party online price $13.95 - actual price $15.95. Same with soup and dumplings. Suggest you confirm prices before ordering. Foods good. But wont be returning there ... lotsa good chinese restaurants around here.

The best chinese food in Havertown (and surrounding area) Not greasy, always yummy. The sushi is very good too. I do takeout and eat in .. only downside is that service is slow & mediocre when you eat in. Take out service is great - - everything is always in the bag when I get home, including sauses, tea, etc. They have a full service bar too, which is handy.

The place is nice the food is great as well but the waitress was not nice she had a bad attitude it was our first time at the place. They give you a little bit of sauce for the food and when you ask for more they seem to get upset abt it. The waitresses need to smile they make you feel like you did something to them!
