The outdoor seating area was the only positive...it was quaint and lovely. Extremely slow service, despite only a few customers seated. Ordered the steak burrito - it was drenched and filled with green sauce that I cant even call salsa verde. It was seemingly unseasoned, and tasted mostly vinegar-y. The steak was cooked well, except it was overpowered by the sauce. We asked for a bottle of hot sauce and instead received a small dish of what we guessed was a pepper/sour cream mixture. I should have taken note earlier in our dinner that they charge for extra chips and they dont serve alcohol unless you bring it with you. You should always be able to get a margarita at a Mexican restaurant. We had a party of 7 and the most positive comments about the meal was, "it was okay."

Great Mexican restaurant, which was a surprise to find it in Gettysburg. Ive lots of experience with Mexican food, having grown up in SW Detroit and lived in San Antonio for 20 years. The enchiladas were very good and the outstanding thing were the beans and salsas. Carlos, our very good waiter, brought the usual chips and salsa, but I asked if he had something "mas pica (hotter)"; he did and it was orange/yellow, which surprised me and I had to ask, How? Carlos said the meat of the Costeno pepper is this color. I would recommend this restaurant highly, but be forewarned, no adult beverage, but the sign encouraged, BYOB. Enjoy!

Other then the location, I was very disappointed in El Costeño. Ive been there a total of three times and havent had an enjoyable meal. Servers, who have worked there for extended periods of time, lack knowledge of the menu, dining room is not comfortable or inviting, we were given food that was something completely different than what we ordered, charged for items (like sour cream) that we never received or ordered. It was like pulling teeth to get the staff to adjust out bill. Each time, the food was mediocre. Not a restaurant I would recommend.

Waited 1 hour for food, brought wrong food out and when I told waitress she told me it was the cooks fault, waited again and she brought out wrong order again. I told her that I will just pay for my soda that by the way has no refills. The watress acted like I still had to pay, redicules. This resturant prays on vacationers. Been coming to Gettysburg for years and like to try different food. Never again here

Terrible place for lunch. They serve a skimpy, overpriced steak quesadilla with no sides, make you pay for additional baskets of chips, and the salsa is awful. Just go to Montezumas. They have better food, a better atmosphere, a better waitstaff, and you dont need to pay for extra chip baskets, like here.

Our family drove by on the way to another restaurant and turned around because we saw the outside seating. So glad we did. The cost is incredibly reasonable the food was incredibly, well seasoned and full of flavor. Our waitress was wonderful. We will definitely return when visiting Gettysburg again.

Went there last night for dinner after waiting over an hour for a food to come out from the kitchen we found the food to be Bland everything tasted like it in been boiled. The Empanada casings were more alike wonton wraps and the cheese empanadas the cheese tasted like at it was spoiled.

Cheese enchiladas were good, a little drenched in green sauce for my liking. Rice wasnt seasoned all that much, beans were good but runnier. Chips and salsa was good, I got queso on the side which was good. A little expensive but I think it was worth it. I will probably come back.

You MUST stop by here for lunch or dinner. Hands down the BEST authentic Mexican eats on the East coast !!!!! I am not exaggerating. Great hidden gem. Please please note that you must bring your own bottle. If you forget, theres a store 1 block away.

The food is absolutely amazing. Everything is authentic and fresh. Beautiful location in downtown Gettysburg with gorgeous outside patio dining. I highly recommend El Costeño to anyone who enjoys a true Mexican meal.

Slow service but our waiter was friendly and helpful. Food was even better. I ordered something spicy off the menu.(not thinking it would be too spicy) And it was actually very spicy, I was happily surprised.

Absolutely fantastic food. I ordered the burrito Popeye and it was hands down the best burrito I have ever had. The flavor was excellent and the cheese sauce was delicious. The service was very good as well.
