Visited on May 2009, Sunday evening. Crowded waited for 30 min before we could be seated. Not a problem waiting but call ahead for reservations. Smiling customers (mostly older people in their 60s) leaving and talking about great food got our hopes up. Place is "cozy" if you know what I mean. Loud so very family friendly. Service is quite good for an Indian establishment. You know what I mean if youve been to a few Indian places. Ambiance and Decor are top notch. Prices and food portions are quite respectable. Ordered Three entrees. They bring out the food as its ready and not in the order you would want to eat them, but thats OK, I dont blame hard working wait staff who are young students picking up extra work. Ordered their Special (happened to be Salmon) and bent the spoon trying to cut the Salmon. Yes! I tried to cut up the Salmon to serve it and bent the spoon trying to cut it. I tried with the fork with the same result, finally took the knife and cut it. I have had Steak the was easier to cut. I am not exaggerating at all, This is honest and accurate. Finally took a bite and after chewing for a few seconds spit if out. Shared the entree with the other two people I was with and it made for some very lively conversation and a few laughs. The other two entrees were tolerable for me, but then I am South Indian and we like our food spicy. I know my Indian Cuisine. Not what I would expect from a real Indian Chef. Mostly the other two Entrees we ordered were a mash up of ingredients, one of which I strongly suspect was just Ketchup with added salt and red pepper. Any way will not go there again. If you are new to Indian food and live close by go for it, you dont have many options. If you like your Indian food Spicy (and tasty I might add) find another place. I Picked up a Take home Menu before we sat down for our meal and left it there when we left. I am not that into ambiance and decor, I would rather have a well prepared meal. After complaining to the waiter we were refunded the price of the Entree and offered complimentary Desert on the House. What Can I say? respectable establishment but I am sorry It doesnt make up for fake food in my opinion.

I along with my wife were at this wonderful bistro on a silent saturday( Surprisingly it was not crowded), we were seated right away by pleasent wait staff. To start of with, the food was outstanding, the waitstaff was outstanding, the only flaw what I found was, there were too many loud people with loud voices coming in from kitchen, we asked the waiter if there was a tiff going on at the back. Its a very honest suggestion to the management, please keep the voices low, because we as senior citizens , come to such a wonderful place on mainline to expect some peace of mind. I am okay with pleasent music, but not with people shouting at the top of their voices....MAJOR TURN OFF

This place serves garbage in the name of Indian Food. They have lowered the bar for Indian food so low that they have taken it to a whole new level - Dosa and Masala Dosa were appetizers. The Chutney is made of a frozen or a rotten coconut - I could not differentiate. If you have never had Indian food in your life or better yet if you want to forget what is Indian Food this place is worth a try. I always thought Mod Pizza which was in the same location served the worst food. But I miss them now.. I know this is a chain and the experience Im talking is about the one in Wayne, PA. They did not have a google page yet.

Ive tried a number of Indian restaurants in the Philly area, and I have my favorites for inexpensive lunch buffets. But the dishes at Saffron were distinctly a cut above, and well worth the visit. The menu was rather tradition, but the quality of the sauces (my partner had a lamb dish in a cream sauce - didnt catch the name) and I had the Tikka Chicken Masala) was different than the average Indian fare. Even the chutney (I think it was a coriander/mint) was notably top chef quality and very fresh - I will be asking for extra chutney with the samosas next time. The paratha was very flaky and tasty.

Im Indian and I love Indian food. Im very critical of the dishes and expect the highest quality, because I think my food at home is the best. WOW! Saffron totally hits the spot! They bring flavor to a new level. Ive been in Philly for awhile, been everywhere (Tiffin, Amans, all the places in 2nd/Market, UPenn area and lastly Tashan, the worse place). Saffron takes Indian Food to the next level. I love their Paneer Tikka Masala, Baighan Bhurtha, Naan are EXCELLENT. Eat here and you will love it HANDS down.

Great food and great staff. Have been going here for years and have never been let down. You can also order take out or delivery, which is also really nice. The restaurant is clean and orderly, with high quality food and ingredients. They have good service and the waiters are almost always standing there, ready for you to signal them over. My personal favorites are the Chicken Tikka Masala, Murg Korma, Chicken Kathi Roll, Spinach and Cheese Naan, and a Mango Lassi.

My husband and I recently moved into the area and love Indian food, so this is the first restaurant we tried out. My food was good, but my husbands food was just ok. The rita is not the best, it is actually sweet, I have never tasted anything similar to it at other Indian restaurants. I would not order it next time. It isnt a bad restaurant, but we will keep looking to find our new favorite place.

We really wanted to like this place, because we love Indian food and its so near us. Weve visited 3 times, thinking if we changed our selection, wed find the "excellent" dishes from the reviews. But the truth is, the food is not very good. In fact, the vindaloo tasted like ketchup. Were only giving 2 stars because of the ambiance. We are suspicious of the overly enthusiastic reviews here.

Sugar Syrup factory ! Non of the dishes have any salt ! Rice was low quality(non basmati). Alu Nan was good but again NO SALT ? The plain dosa & sambar was brilliant on the contrary. Ordered a sweet syrup which they term Paneer Makhni. Great Ambience and Interior ruined by some extra sweet food. There are much tastier authentic Indian restaurants, so will not visit again !

Good food, prompt service, reasonable pricing. Update: Been coming here for a while & the food has always been quite good. If anything, the food has gotten better over time. Upgraded from 4 to 5 stars. The noise level can be a bit high, but not so much to disturb table conversation. Tonight they had live sitar music; very enjoyable. Review is for location in Merion.

My family dined here last night. We enjoyed all of the dishes! I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, and it was so good! The wait staff were very attentive, and saw to our every need. A gentleman was playing a sitar, which adding to the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place. Next time, we will bring wine :)
