We moved to Salem from Portland, and we really love living here. However, the hardest part for us is the grocery shopping. We like to eat as local and organic as possible, and have a lot of food sensitivities in our house, in Portland we could basically get everything we needed at Whole Foods, in Salem we have to visit several stores to get what we need, as well as still driving north for certain things, with two small kids its a pain to say the least. Lifesource is always a bright spot in the challenge of feeding our family, though. Our son, Oliver, loves going in and seeing all of his friends, in fact he demands it. They are all so kind and welcoming, and we consider them to truly be our friends. Yes the prices are on the high side, yes the store is on the small side, but little businesses like these are the heartbeat of America. They pour their heart and soul in to what they do, and you can tell that it is important to each and every person who works there. My only critique would be that they need to try to find a better source for ground beef. We still drive up to Whole Foods in Tualatin for our meat because the grass fed meat they offer at Lifesource is always very gristly, it makes for a very unpleasant meal. Our lives would be significantly easier if a Whole Foods or New Seasons opened in Salem, but honestly, wed be worried about this little gem getting buried. At the end of the day, I would rather do the extra driving and know that these folks can keep doing what they do, than see them shuttered for my convenience.

I have shopped here for over 7 years and have always found the staff to be very helpful. When I needed specialty water they ordered for me. When I was looking for products, they lead me to them. When I call and ask for information they actually look the information up and give me the price + the sale + if they are running low on stock when it will be coming back in. I see the negative feed back and I have to say, each person has a different position in life and the view is reflective of where that person currently is. Every store has its items that are higher than you can get at a competitor and items that are lower than a competitor. You do your math, and balance it out, add in the travel, time, service, and specialties and make your choice. Best to do your research and find out where the products come from and what is actually on them before making that choice. As the saying goes "pay the farmer now, or pay the doctor later".

I hate shopping in this sad little store. Mostly because I find their prices to be far too high considering the quality (or lack threof) of the products they are selling, which are much higher than the natural/organic food prices elsewhere in the same area. Yes, they allegedly offer health benefits to full time employees, but Fred Meyer and other stores in this city do the same and manage not to charge an arm and a leg for their inventory. Im also shocked by the disinterest and outright rudeness displayed by their staff whenever I do have to shop there (typically only in emergencies.) Their abrupt, dismissive attitude gives the Whole Foods crowd a run for its money in the not-caring-about-customers department. Finally, I cant believe how slovenly and visibly out of shape the staff is. Do they really think people are going to want to buy health food from folks who look like theyve never eaten a carrot in their lives?

I have had the worst experiences here. The staff takes snide to a whole new level. The worst is the supplements aisle, where they routinely pretend to be credentialed healthcare providers. I loved the last comment I heard from one of the women pushing products in that section--before she would "let" a customer walk out with something: "Im going to ask you to talk to your doctor about that one." Really? Like youre entitled to pretend to know what someones doctor needs to know about a patient? And dont get me started on the prices; I really resent having to deal with frequently outrageous price hikes in order to accommodate the health coverage needs of a visibly slovenly, out of shape staff (especially those losers Ive seen smoking outside the store.) If your going to put the burden of paying for your employees healthcare on the consumer--hold them to some kind of standard. I avoid this place like the plague.

Best beef in town! I eat a lot of beef and I only eat the best grass-fed beef. (Grass is what cows eat - simple fact!) This store has everything from affordable flank steak to pot roast and ground beef for some superb hamburgers. The prices are great on the quality meats too! I went to a different store and had a sad-face when I left. Whenever I leave LifeSource I have a great big smile! These people are pretty fun and they sure know their stuff too! They helped my wife find her local honey for her allergies and my son got an energy drink that had him bucking hay until the job was finished! I love this place! (Great Pizza by the slice too!)

This is another great local health food focused grocery store. They have a great selection of bulk foods, organic produce, and, of course, locally produced foods. They also had a great selection of local and national toiletries. Their dairy selection wasnt as expansive as some national chains, but it had plenty of options and alternatives to traditional dairy. I was particularly impressed by the great variety of healthy probiotic drinks; high-end Kombucha, water kefir-based drinks, etc. They also had a great selection of raw materials like bees wax, coco-butter and containers.

Love the produce and packaged selections, yet too often disappointed by the customer service during check-out time. Sadly, it is common for two (joyless) check-out persons, in particular, to fail to acknowledge the customer until it is time to ask about the bring-your-own-bag tokens or the discount. Thus, spending nearly $100 each visit becomes more difficult and less palatable when the exit experience is so miserable. Overall, a source of joy when it comes to nutrition while a source of frustration when it comes to service (i.e., compassion and awareness should be priorities).

Its always a pleasure shopping here. The employees are always nice and make good eye contact, and its near impossible to walk outta here with anything that isnt of the highest quality. Their beer selection is respectable and prices are higher than average but about what youd expect from a natural foods store. As with most things you get what you pay for. Great little store for a place like Salem that can be somewhat of a black hole sometimes.

Best natural store Ive ever been to, from Flroda, California ,Colarado and all in between. Friendliest staff youll ever meet, clean, green, with a selection of products that beats larger stores by far. This is a place where checking the label is barely needed, with reasonable prices for most everyrthing. Hot food is exceptional. Bathrooms clean, eating area is perfect, samples of fresh fruit all the time. A+ amazing, great job.

My husband and I just moved here from Missouri and are used to shopping at our local farmers markets. But when we came to Salem we have not had any luck finding a farmers market this time of year. Thankfully we found this gem. Fresh organic produce everywhere! Beautiful produce! On top of that they have organic liquid soap and many other organic items and holistic health options. We will definitely be regulars at this place!
