I have been coming here for years. And tonight, when asked for the number of bags I was going to use -- by a checkout clerk who already knew me, no less -- I told her that Id brought more than 10, so...10. Background on that, before I continue: they offer something like $0.06 refund per reusable bag you bring in as a small thank you for being conscientious. Later on, they started saying that you would only be reimbursed for no more than 10 bags, even if you have more. And then they said that even if you use giant, Costco-sized bags, they only ever count as one bag. A little annoying, but whatever. I didnt buy them for the reimbursement, I bought them to help reduce my bag usage. So I brought 12 bags or so. Told the lady (again, who knew me already) that I had "more than 10" bags. She then corrected me that it was only the bags I thought I would use. I *always* use most-to-all of my bags, and I try not to overestimate. I told her that my back was really hurting today, so Id probably use not only 10 bags, but the other bags for which I was not already being credited. I was the last at her stand. She was closed after me. And, while she was still checking my groceries, she asked me to go around and start bagging. I have never had a Winco employee anywhere ask me that, let alone in the tone of voice she did. So I start bagging while being scrutinized. Not a happy feeling on the best of days, but when I am also fighting a bad back and being made to speed-load my bags so she can be sure Im using all ten? Im a little annoyed. And then, BEFORE Im done bagging, she asks me to stop and come and pay. I shouldve asked how many bags she credited; by the time she wanted me to round, Id counted aloud 7 bags, with one Id need to re-package because it was too heavy for me, and I still had an entire belt still to bag. I paid. She left before I was done. I bagged the last of my groceries. Brought them to my car. Noticed she only credited me six of the ELEVEN bags I ended up using. And again, its not the fact that I needed the extra twenty cents or anything. It was the attitude. The scrutiny and disbelief placed in a returning customer. Congratulations. I hope the $0.20 you just saved the company was worth my never visiting this store again. And congratulations also, on being my very first one-star review.

I have been to other locations of Winco(Monmouth, Salem) where customer service is excellent. When I shopped in 1222 Ne 102nd in Portland, I have seen much difference in the interaction between the customers and the workers. This is what I saw while I was there: cops going in and out; unsupervised kids/teens, happily eating the fresh produces; supervisor with his white haggard face, trying to prevent them eating of the fresh produces; the atmosphere felt intense and hostile; dimmed lightings(not like the brite and white lights of other Winco stores); I didnt see any other workers except the supervisor and the clerk. The kids who ate the unpaid produces, were bigger than me: I couldnt tell them to pay for them first. When I looked for any workers to report this, I saw the stress in supervisors face when he went to discipline them himself. It may looked like the majority of the customers were rough for employees to deal with but roughness is just another obstacle to overcome. Winco employees: just keep your chins up and keep on being cheerful when you persevere. I appreciate your hard work with us customers.

Pros: Store is pretty good and the prices, in general, are easily the best of any grocery store chain that Im aware of. It seems that Wincos prices are even better than Grocery Outlets prices. Some aisles -such as frozen dairy- dont have a great selection but other aisles have more than enough selections. Cons: Store is usually throughout most of the day quite busy and extraordinarily dirty. Not surprisingly stores like this attract way too many minorities and stupid morally-repugnant people. Also, at all times of the day grocery employees have many boxes on the floor which close off huge portions of shopping aisles -esp. in the produce areas- making shopping experience very crowded and difficult to navigate through. Checkout lines can be a little long at times but arent as bad as some chains such as Safeway -which grocery chain is always understaffed.

I had a very irritating experience today at the deli. I went in this morning around 9AM to grab some breakfast. They were just putting some hot food out. We were kind of just ignored for a minute or two and then when we were finally helped the guy who helped us dilly dallied while a line was forming behind us. THe man helping us was not personable at all and felt a bit rude. When I got to my destination with my baked/grilled chicken I opened up the little plastic hot food bag and the chicken was wrapped in paper. Not only had the paper sucked all the juices out of my chicken it stuck to it and tore when I tried peeling it off. Even now Im convinced I still ate pieces of paper trying to pick at the chicken around it. It was very upsetting.

Love this winco! The workers there are great! Theyll go the extra mile just for you! Prices are low and usually its pretty clean there. I noticed it to be a lot more busier on the weekends and especially closer towards the holidays but otherwise Id say its not that busy. They have the "u scan" but I never use it and lines are not that bad to the cash register either. I usually end up having 1 or 2 people in front of me that are already putting their stuff out and a lot of times that 1 person in front of me is already finishing putting their stuff out so like I said lines arent long. Layout of the store is kinda interesting but then again Im so used to it that all the other winco compared to this one feels kinda confusing

Worst parking lot of just about any Winco store Ive been to. Otherwise, very typical store. Its almost always busy, no matter when I go, if its during a "normal" schedule time (~9AM - 9PM). Busier than the Tigard location, more cramped, and the layout is frustrating. Produce all shoved into a little sectioned off corner, where customers are corralled through one little entry-way like a herd. This location is hard to get in, grab a few things, and get out of, but it works in a pinch. Lots of mall-goers, so watch out for pedestrians. They do have self-check out, otherwise Id completely avoid it (and drive the extra three minutes south to get to Tigards Winco... which is right across the street from Costco, too.)

The staff at Winco is always friendly and very fast, getting through long lines of customers typically without incident. The parking lot is terrible, almost always, but there are cart returns all over the place which is nice to not have to take it back all the way to the store. Dont go at the first of the month, or the store will be even more busy than usual. If you get produce, it will likely spoil quickly, so dont buy more than a couple days worth. Cant be the prices!
