Nice brewpub on N Russell, although I find the restaurant rather small considering how huge Widmer is, not just as a brewery but as a company. Theres more seating in the bar and is mostly frequented by brewers and employees enjoying a beer after their shifts. The food here is really good, a more upscale pub menu with some German influenced dishes such as Olympic Provisions Bratwurst and kraut, pork or chicken schnitzel, and german potato salad. Burgers are great, but my favorite is the Reuben sandwich (with house cured corned beef, kraut, and 1000 island) and a house made pub pretzel with Drop Top Amber fondue. Happy hour is a little inconvenient from 2-5pm, but offers a nice menu and $1 off beers. Speaking of beer, Widmer is definitely a Portland staple. Kurt and Rob helped start the craft beer movement here back in 1984, and they havent slowed down in keeping up with a lot of the new beer styles that are becoming more and more popular. The Widmer brewery is massive. If you havent done the tour you should schedule a visit, or come during Zwicklemania ( the annual one day, state-wide brewery open house.) Very impressive, 3 story brewery located across the street from the Gasthaus, housing state of the art brewing equipment, 10-12 huge fermentation tanks called the "Cathedral" standing around 45 feet tall, and a huge bottling line shipping out flagship beers such as Hefeweizen, Drop Top Amber, and Rotator IPA series. Widmer also throws and annual Oktoberfest in the back loading dock thats always a good time. When youre at the Gasthaus, get the Alt (Altbier) I believe this is the only place you can find this classic Widmer beer. Prost!

Hey Gang. Ive been to Widmers dozens of times, let me tell you what, IT RULES! Just like any place the rules apply, come fairly often, tip well and VOILA! If you dont have kids, ask for seating up by the bar, if your lucky youll get a good wooden table with tall wooden seats. The staff is very very nice. Not snobby like some brew pubs. Make sure you try their full sampler, ask for ALL thie beers to sample, its well worth it. Theres no bad choices at Widmers for food. ENJOY! p.s. if its normal business hours check out the gift shop for cool stuff like the big beer glasses they have in Germany at Oktoberfest and t-shirts.

I always forget about how much I like this place. Probably because of its location. It is difficult to find and not near anything else that youd most likely be visiting. The pub has a nice selection of food for you to enjoy while sipping on one of Widmers limited release brews. I like to start with a fondue pretzel (mainly because I am a sucker for fondue). I also enjoy the chicken schnitzel. They serve a nice collection of standard pub faire and german food as well. Plus this the only place you can get Widmers reserve brews.

Get a seat at the bar or anywhere for that matter. If you are like me, you have no idea that theres more to Widmer than their Hef - well be prepared to be shamed into thinking that because this place has amazing taps of the wide range, specialty, limited edition, and currently available at your nearby grocery store (but on tap is always better!) beers on TAP! We go over there whenever we get a chance, and they have food too but think of that as more like a good beer side dish. Bon appetit!

I put an order in over the phone, was told ten minutes, went in there twenty minutes later cause I figured theyd be busy, which they were. They FORGOT to put my order in! Couldnt stay to wait, I only had a five minutes window, and couldnt go back. Not a good first impression. The bartender I spoke to was nice though and offered me a drink. *update* Have had similar service issues since this original post. Also, they refuse to answer my questions about their beer.

Widmer Bros is a great brewpub as it has a large and varied selection of its own beers and a solid food menu. The pints range in price from $5 to $7 depending upon the style, so they are somewhat pricey considering you are at the brewery. I had the steak salad and it was a good size and the steak was actually cooked quite well. There is even a gift shop, but its only open till 6pm so I didnt get the chance to visit.

On vaca from NY, I had the Hefenweizen and the Drifter beer at a local bar near our hotel. I found these two beers to standout from the rest of the beers in Oregon because they werent bitter. I went to the Brewery for dinner the next night and enjoyed a Drifter with Meatloaf and it was amazing. I got two large slices of meatloaf with some grilled asparagus. Quite amazing. The chicken schnitzle was good too.

I might be biased because these guys sponsor my run group X DOG, but the truth is...the food was excellent, service was down home friendly and the beer....well...it drinks for its self. Always smooth always available and reasonable. Come in, try the Russian Imperial Stout with raspberries. Grab a burger with chips and enjoy the wonderful bar with superior service. These guys are happy hour hit!

Widmer is so underrated. They make some really tasty brews, the food is better than your average brewpub, and the service is consistently good. I guess their problem is that "corporate feel," and they are certainly a large operation, but I respect that they dont pretend to be something theyre not (Im looking at you, Rogue) and instead just focus on quality product and service.

Pretzle fondue and schnitzle - need I say more? I appreciate restaurants that go beyond the typical pub food that is mostly found in Portland. Id suggest going in early or on an off night like a Tue or Wed. The place does get busy - but hey thats what you want in a pub style eatery right? Oh yeah and the beers, get one to match with your food - ask the server.

The beer and appetizer we had were great. The problem was getting another beer. Our server Greg was horrible and did not pay any attention to us. it looked like it was the end of his shift and he wanted to close out and get us out of there. Ive been a fan of the beers here for many years but unfortunately will not go back because of this experience.

Went in on a Sunday and had amazing food, beer and great service. Their German food goes great with their beer selection and our server was fantastic. I grabbed a growler at the retail store and came back to the restaurant to get it filled with their Nelson imperial IPA and the bartender was very nice and asked how my food was. Highly recommend.

Definitely a stop on a brewery tour of Portland but for some reason their bar has an inexplicable "gift shop" quality to it. They pour all the Widmer beers, which are all awesome, but the foods nothing to rave about. The happy hour doesnt discount much off the original price. Ive heard they do free tours so that might be something to check out.

Came here tonight with some friends for my first time- it was awesome! Great food, great service. Parking was tough, but worth it. I got the chicken schnitzel and it was really good. Also got the pretzel fondue and homemade root beer and recommend both of those too. Cost about $52 for two people- two appetizers, drink, and two entrees.
