Im just going to chalk any positive reviews up to manipulation. This was bar none the worst food(of any nationality) I have ever had. The first thing that hit me was how much the place smelled like a thrift shop. My girlfriend that had been here as a child assured me that it was just an old building. The water was nasty tap water that tasted like the cup was not all that clean to start. No biggie. Just order a soda. Got 2 7ups. They tasted like Ivory soap. Switched for root beers. Cant taste the Ivory soap as much. Food came. I have never seen such literal fried rice. No veggies or anything else. Just cheap rice, tons of oil, and soy sauce. BBQ pork...tough. Broccoli and chicken. Way under cooked broccoli and the chicken tastes like roadkill. Sweet and sour and General Tsos chicken. Assuming the same roadkill chicken, but hard to tell under all of the breading and buckets of grease. The worst part way the egg rolls, spring rolls, or whatever they were. Tasted like they were filled with Stove Top stuffing and then marinated in grease overnight before being deep fried. One bite each and we were done. Even the fortune cookies were completely flavorless. How do you get fortune cookies wrong?

Usually the place isnt too bad. I have a sensitive stomach so I usually get an upset stomach from what I thought was the grease and my husband is always fine (he has high immunity to lots of things). Tonight was a different story. My husband, 2 friends, and I walked through the snow to have a warm dinner. Before paying I got terrible cramps. I just wanted to curl in a ball and lay in the snow instead of going home. After we finally got home my friend and I were fighting for the restroom. After we both got sick he went downstairs and was sick for another 30 - 1 hour. My husband who I have NEVER seen throw up besides from drinking too much during parties, an hour after I got sick, he had to lay down and felt nauseated. After 20 minutes he bolted up and got sick, then had to use the restroom right after vomiting. The only thing I can think of is food poisoning, luckily for us not as bad as it could of been.

My fiance came home and showed me the glass that was in her cashew nut chicken. Unbelievable. Chunks of glass. Who got the rest of the glass. When she was finally able to get hold of a waitress and explain what had happened, the waitress went and told the boss. The boss came out and said they were sorry. They wanted the glass but Lynda decided to keep it. At least they replaced the cashew nut chicken. Never asked if she was cut or bleeding. Never offered any type of compensation for what could have been a terrible situation. Looking at the sharp chunks of glass, we wondered how much damage, if any, they would cause if swallowed. MaiWahs did not seemed concerned. We wont be back.

We ordered General Tsos Chicken and Sesame Beef. They didnt have sesame beef on the menu, and wanted to make sesame chicken instead. Props to them for making Sesame Beef. That was the only good thing about the experience. The place stinks from the smokers in the lounge. Even though we ordered two different meals, we couldnt taste the difference. Even though one was "hot and spicy" it wasnt. It was doughy. I think they breaded the chicken. It was the most bland chinese food weve ever had. Ive gotten better stuff at the mall. Ive gotten better stuff from the frozen foods section at Fred Meyer.

Food is very good. Sometimes when coming in late at night, the service can be slow as they are often short staffed, and the bartender has to play double duty as both server (in the dining room) and as bartender (in the bar), but food quality has always been excellent. I havent ever been in there earlier in the day, but Im guessing that their service, as far as speed, is probably going to be better at that time, but without being there during that time, I wouldnt know for sure either way. Nevertheless, would still recommend.

I left Portland 7 years ago and moved to Tucson. Last week I was there for vacation. And they havent Changed a bit. Awesome food and great value! I swear this is true. I invited the owner of the Chinese restaurant around the corner from me in Tucson. To join me for a trip to Portland more important to Mai Wahs! He has declined my offers.

I have never had anything worse at a restaurant. They used sticky rice and fried it in oil. The results were burnt bland chunks of sticky rice. When I asked about the food waitress said nope this is our normal food. That was a lie. I have eaten here before. Never again will I step foot in that place.

Mai Wahs is the best Chinese restaurant in the area, by far. Ive been enjoying their great service and wonderful food for over 20 years!!! I would recommend their sweet and sour pork/chicken, because their sweet and sour sauce is the best Ive ever had!

It was the most bland disgusting thing Ive ever tasted way over priced and we ordered the flour egg soup it was horrendous it looks like semen and the flavor was the same as the look dont go here unless you want to waste 35$ like us

Horrible wait service, to long to replace tea, never got out soup and too almost 30 minutes to get chop sticks when the resturaunt was near empty. I do not suggest giving this reaturaunt any servce till they get better wait staff.

Great Chinese food with many vegetarian options served until 2 a.m. Friendly lowbrow place. Check your pretense at the door. Youre not in Milwaukie, Oak Grove, Gladstone, or Oregon City. Its Jennings Lodge!

Its the kind of place Saul rents a room in the back from. Except the food is much better than cucumber water. The patron are much nicer than the clients going to see Saul. Plus the chicken is better;)

They have amazing Chinese food. Their sweet & sour pork is to die for, and they serve a pot of complimentary green tea! It is is a bit pricey, but it is worth it for the delicious fried rice.

So the inside isnt fancy, but the food and service is good. The price is inexpensive and you always get more food than you can eat.

Disgusting! Ordered the veggie chow mein and it was seriously about 2 pounds of bean sprouts and a handful of celery.

The worst food I have ever had. I tried three things and just left after it was horrible. The man working was nice.
