Another beer bar in Portland?! ...and so close to the horsebrass too, Gutsy! Hey, Im not complaining. I love beer, and the easier it is to get at, the better. This is Portland after all, there SHOULD be a beer bar on every corner. The Hawthorne Hophouse has a decent rotating taplist of mostly locally made craft options at acceptable prices. The food is decent. The service is friendly. The design is nice enough. If Im in the area, Ill stop here for a burger and a beer or six, but the hophouse lacks real character or anything to wow me in a town full of competing options, so I wouldnt make it a destination.

Excellent experience all-around! Attractive, open, and airy layout with patio seating. Great taplist with much appreciated variety aside from the ever-popular IPAs Im starting to hate nowadays. The happy hour food options were decent and all tasted on par with what I wanted. Our server named Shelby, I believe, with a purple/pink fauhawk was simply awesome, promptly replenishing drinks and regularly checking in on us. The habenero fizzy wine was well suggested and amazingly refreshing, as was the choctabulous stout. Thanks a million! Will definitely see you all again! Best, ~S

I went in to the Hophouse at around 6:30 on a Wednesday evening with a date. We sat ourselves and decided what we wanted to order. After about 5 minutes we realized that we have yet to see a server. We waited patiently for another 5-10 minutes without getting any help. Twice the waitress looked at us from across the bar, but she never acknowledged us. We could no longer be patient, so we walked down the street to Than Thao. We did not receive bad service, in fact we received no service.

This place is losing tone! Had not been there since last summer and beers on the deck. This time three of went in for dinner on a chilly December evening. The place was freezing, and they were out of soup by 5:30 PM! Two of us had burgers and fries and the garlic fries were lukewarm glops of flavorless starch. Burgers were a lousy value compared to other local places. Service was fine as always. Im not going back til summer when they hopefully get their act together again.

With 24 taps to choose from there are many good micro brew choices -- and so close to my house! The food menu is brief. Ive only had the fries which were better than average. They have a kids menu, which shows they know the neighborhood. When they first opened, they were not open for lunch on the weekeneds!, but quickly remedied that. A nice addition to the neighborhood that I will try again, and again.

Purchased lifetime Mug Club membership years ago due to the wide range of beer choices and the great food menu. Was told today, for the first time, that my beer choices would only be half a mug club pour. I felt like I was at Trumphs Winter White Hophouse, newly maximizing their profits without notifying me beforehand. When did this change come about ? No public input ? Very Bad, Very Sad.

Great place. Its a Growlerie that actually has food! What a concept! Ha! (Most groweries do not serve food). They have a great selection of beer and their food service quite good, especially their burgers! And every January, they do a 12 taster blind IPA tasting to determine the best IPA Oregon has to offer and serve that on tap year round the following year. Fun event!

Great beer selection, I recommend the flight tastings if you are feeling adventurous. They used to have a mac and cheese sandwich that was pretty awesome, I was sad to see it go. (It cost a star) The other food items are pretty alright, you can tell the beer is selected with care and food is made with love.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff, better than average pub food (Customize a burger - the meat is superior), and all that beer & cider. Ask about the Mug Club for a better deal. My favorite place. Im the white haired guy two seats from the left end of the bar.

Googled "best Cobb Salad in Portland" and this place was highly rated... Maybe it was an off day, but our experinece was not good. The food was completely mediocre and the service was sub par. Save yourself and just go to Hopworks.

Corn fritters were burnt, half black and zero taste or sight of cheese in these over fried blobs. The dipping sauce, was lemony and did not compliment the overly dry corn fritters. Very disappointed, I gave my food to a homeless man

Great food, pub or not, good selection of beers on tap, friendly service, and very reasonable prices. Dinner and a beer for less than $15 is alright by me. Happy hour all day Sunday, $4 entrees and $1 of any local beer is a steal.

I have been going here for several years. The rotating taps are pretty fun. Wait staff is not always on point but the food is usually pretty on point. Outdoor seating is available and on a nice day can be peaceful and comfy.

This place is great. Its a mostly locals only and they have a great beer selection that changes frequently and some pretty amazing burgers. Definitely check it out if you happen to be in the East Hawthorne area.

Overpriced. Happy hour servings are strategically small to get you to order 2 servings. Good service. Good beers. But really nothing great. Personally I think my moneys better spent elsewhere.

Fantastic food, quick service, and amazing local beer selection. The garlic parmesan fries are the best! Highly recommend this place for a quiet, relaxed meal with great food and local beers!

Outstanding beer and cider options, full bar and delicious food. Bartenders are knowledgeable and can talk shop. Staff is very friendly. Great art from rotating artists in the wall.

Food was over priced for what you got. Beer selection was great, but server seemed so busy it was tough to get her attention. I would give it another try but not immediately return.

Awesome beer selection ! Food a bit hit or miss....ask for the cheese curds to not be over-cooked. Pulled pork bbq sauce a bit bland. Salad was good and fresh.

Good service. Hummus plate has changed for the worse, its still okay but small. Fries were soft and cold. Burger was fantastic.
