Do not go here. Even if you hate yourself and have 90 minutes to waste, do not go here. Ive been four times, returning each time out of few options and disbelief it could be as bad as it was before. And every time, its not failed to live down to its standard. Watching the workflow of this restaurant is like watching an 18-car pile up. The restaurant is routinely dysfunctional, to a comic degree. The easiest orders (a bagel sandwich) get taken with relative ease and then totally lost, mired in an endless black hole of confusion somewhere in the kitchen, which is made even more maddening by the fact that its right in front of you as you wait. You can see it all unfold. A bald man (manager?) in the center of everything shouts out his own confusion re: orders to the staff like hes diffusing a bomb. He looks like hes working so hard and is so stressed and yet is so ineffective. Disinterested staff look like they want to kill themselves. If you sit down and dont actively reach out/gesture to anyone, no one will come up to you. Two of the four times I never actually received the food I ordered. The other two times, when I did, it was genuinely disgusting.

I had two hours to kill at the Portland airport and stopped at Capers Cafe. The server was not only efficient, he was friendly, quick and attentive. His recommendations for beverages and food were great. The specialty burger was fabulous. My entire experience at Capers Cafe was excellent. When I departed, I left my payment with the bartender. But then the amazing thing happened. I left the central part of the airport where Capers is located and walked to Gate A2--down one corridor, around the corner, down an escalator and another corridor and into the gate area. As I was sitting at the gate I heard my name and looked up to see the Capers bartender. I had told my server where I was traveling to and the bartender tracked me down to return the credit card I had left in the payment folder at the bar. The grief he prevented and the courtesy he showed were immense. I am impressed, very grateful and will return to Capers again and again. Many thanks to my server, Tomas, and the bartender --I didnt get his name. And many thanks to Capers for employing people with great integrity and compassion.

Great breakfast! Delicious crispy bacon, good eggs (their over medium was a little undercooked for me, but I was fine with it), melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly spiced/salty fried potatoes. Mild sourdough toast - yum! I was extremely happy with this meal, since I knew I probably wouldnt (and I was right) eat the food on the airplane. The hub went next door to Starbucks (which, as of this writing is no longer there) and got us a couple mochas. Mom enjoyed her vodka tonic here at the bar, sitting next to me while I had breakfast. Simply a great place to hang out before catching your flight. Service was good, but since it was busy, we had to wait a little longer than is perhaps normal. My biggest complaint was the price. Since youve passed beyond the security gate at the airport, they can charge pretty much whatever they want. For me, at that moment, it was totally worth it though.

First off, this place lacks personality. Everyone seems like a robot down there. I did not feel like a welcome guest but rather a means to an end. I got the sense that the place was poorly managed because the assistant manager was very snippy, rude and inauthentic. Some of the servers seemed honest but you could tell they werent happy working there. I think this place should be shut down because I overheard some servers talking about how much they hated management. The food is not fairly priced, even for airport food. Its about the same pricing as Flying Elephants, but far inferior quality of food and service. My bacon was burned horribly (not sure how they got away with serving it that dark). The only nice part of my visit was hearing the volunteer musician playing piano. I wouldnt waste your time or your money here.

The service was great! At least the people taking my order were great. However once we got on the plane and we opened up our order, BOTH sandwiches were wrong! I couldnt even eat mine because it was so wrong! The only thing they got right was the kind of bread we asked for. Make sure you check you order before your 30,000 ft up because it might be wrong! I was surprised because it seemed like they had 25-30 people working in this cafe, but all I needed was the one of them to get a 2 tiny (almost $7.00/each)1/2 sandwiches right. No such luck!

Worst experience ever! It took the male server 20 minutes to get my hot drink. When my food came I still didnt have my drink or any silverware. I had to ask the busboy for water, which was brought to me in a paper cup without any ice. Everyone around me had water with ice. I ordered eggs over easy and was brought eggs over hard. When I complained to the male server I was brought 2 more eggs over hard! This is the first time that I can remember never leaving a tip.

Capers has always been a good experience at PDX. It is a much better experience than most airports. The food is good quality and always with a lot of variety. The eating area is very open with lots of options to people watch or look out of the large window that overlooks the airport operations. Traveling through PDX travelers are often treated by quality performers in spacious area adjacent the eating area.

Ordered a couple of sandwiches and a cup of vegetable soup at the counter, then shuffled left to pay, and add coffee to the order. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be brought out to the table - in a quiet period with only a half dozen other customers around. We only finished half of the soup, because the pasta in it was slimy. Espresso was hot, but rather bitter. Sandwiches good, but expensive.

Menu description of a "New York Style Hot Pastrami piled high with pastrami" is just a lie. One slice of pastrami will get you run out of New York and should get you run out of Oregon too. On top of that the bloody mary was possibly the worst Ive evèr had. Avoid this place at all costs. I will never go back even to tell them how bad it was. Go anywhere but here in PDX.

Very unusual for airport food - we really liked it. Some of the places at pdx are "greasy spoons" compared to Capers. Price wise, in line with airport prices but it is fresh, can be made to order and the service people are very friendly. We pass through pdx 4 times a year and will call on Capers the next time too !!

The maitred seated us and waitress was attentive, fast and friendly. Those were saving graces. Thimble size coffee spoons (cup) wasnt flavorful. Breakfast burrito served on a healthy alternative tortilla was bland with a mashed up, almost pureed filling. I have had better breakfast burrito served at taco bell.

We always stop here when we are headed out of town to grab a drink and a meal for the plane. Nicole makes the best bloody marys! The food is always fresh and packed to go for our flight. Weve never had a bad meal or bad service. The variety is great, there is always seasonal choices on the menu.
