Oh man... THIS place! What a gem of deep NorthEast Portland! Its kind of like your moms 1980s decorator meets greasy spoon diner and made a baby with an all knowing older Korean lady... yeah, its THAT good. First of all when you walk up youll see the chicken coop where most of the eggs for your breakfast will come from! Thank you Portland urban farm laws! Then theres a charming deck to your left with shade and sun followed by an old school glass sliding door where you just may be greeted directly by the owner herself. Then once she knows where to seat you be prepared for her to grab your hand and lead you to your table. She amazing yo! The grill is right there in front of the entry behind the register. Theres tacky gold metal everywhere and patio furniture, wallpaper and trinkets. Take it allll in. Its hustle and bustle inside, but the outdoor seating is a bit quieter despite being right next to Sandy Blvd.. Foods range from classic diner breakfast favs done really well in classic style to kim chi and Korean favs. They are really only open through lunch so its generally breakfast or lunch fair. Whatever it is they do, they do it well. Ive had the Denver omlet, supurb, French toast, classic, hash browns, a little soft but thats some folks jam!, biscuits and gravy, classic and white floury and their breads are Killer Daves! Fun fact this is also a well known favorite Gay bear eatery. They are very gay friendly and loooove the bears. If you want to feel welcome no matter your identity here is a great place.

Super cute, quirky, lil joint! Open kitchen right as you walk in the door. My fiancé and I sat at the long bar and enjoyed a great breakfast. He had Sue Gees Pindaettok (Pin-day-tuck), a Korean style pancake. It was huge and filled with plenty of veggies, beans, spices, and ground rice. I had a standard breakfast, served with a big helping of hash browns, house recipe freshly made toast and my eggs were cooked to Over Medium perfection! Which doesnt happen too often when ordered out:) Cameo Cafe also offers a deliciously spicy house made hot sauce and a raspberry sauce for toast (which are both available for purchase). Very pleased! Awesome spot for a fast, friendly, yummy breakfast! Lunch menu looks good too! Definitely recommended! Enjoy!

Didnt care for it that much, our breakfasts were pretty good, though I thought the bacon was dry. Staff was very friendly, known for their raspberry sauce, a waitress just put it right on my toast once it was served at the table. I didnt really appreciate that, I would have tried a little on a corner, not the whole piece. Thought it seemed strange, too, that they had tables set outside right next to where a guy was doing construction on the deck. Who would want to sit next to a hammer pounding? Well no one was sitting out there, so I guess that question is answered. Will be a nice deck to sit on when it is done, though.

Im staying in a hotel nearby and read reviews on the cameo. The food sounded different interesting and intriguing enough I had to stop in to check out the cameo cafe and kimchee omelet! Other than the fact they close at three and Im often not out of the house till then or later, the food, service, owner, everything is wonderful. The coffee is the best too, one reason I stopped in again this morning to get a cup, and take breakfast home to the hubby. He is picky about his biscuits and gravy but I knew I could trust the cameo and he LOVED it. Thank you to the waitress for being so friendly! ( darkened)

This local favorite has been dishing out decent food for more than 20 years. Expect a wait. Also expect that after youve paid your bill, you wont get to sit at your table forever just conversing. They do a great business, and turn tables quickly. Coffee refills happen so fast that you could drink a pot and not know it. Are you hungry for pancakes ? Their cakes are slightly larger than big dinner plates. One is a half acre, and 2 of these jumbo cakes is a full acre. Eat these , the huge portion of hash browns, your eggs any style and you wont need to eat the rest of the week.

-Coming from L.A., we experienced a heavy dose of Culture shock at this Portland restaurant. The owner sat my Hispanic fiance and I on the opposite side of the restaurant next to the old and grimey pickle and biscuit packed fridge- even though there was plenty of space next to the other folks. There were literally about 4 tables between us and the other customers. -The food we ordered was mediocre at best. My biscuits and gravy tasted bland and sad- perhaps it was just the bad taste in my mouth stemming from the obvious segregation

This little hidden gem is my go-to breakfast spot, as well as the first place I bring anyone who is visiting Portland from out of town. Ive never had anything less than outstanding to eat at The Cameo. The outdoor seating is perfect for bigger families or if youre simply not comfortable in the close quarters dining room. That dining room is worth the squeeze for the opportunity to surround yourself with the eccentricities of the kitschy, gaudy, opulent decorations that one might expect from a place bearing the name "Cameo".

Cameo Cafe is a complete gem. In over a dozen visits, Ive never waited more than five minutes to be seated; service is always prompt; the food is delicious, reasonably priced, and comes in huge portions; the decor is unique (think grandmas living room in the early 90s paired with Korean kitsch). 2 tips: 1) Get the housemade strong bread, which is perfectly chewy 2) Dont come here for a lengthy, lingering brunch. This is one of the most efficient restaurants in town; please do your part to participate in the process.

We are family friends of the owner, been coming here since I was young with my family, and used to stay in the Motel. The small cafe is what makes it so nostalgic, so for the people who find it "cramped" obviously havent been coming here long. The food and service make up for everything, strong bread, real bacon and full-acre pancakes! Thank you Cameo for always being great! 5 ***** highly recommend coming here. They even offer Take out, so you can enjoy this great food even in your own home.

Biscuits and gravy were okay, but way too much food. Worse, I went in there expecting to pay one price, and found out they simply cant be bothered to update their online menu and worse still, they dont seem to care about it. Ten bucks for biscuits and gravy that will feed 3. I prefer my biscuits and gravy fresh rather than reheated. Perhaps their other food is better, but with so many other great breakfast choices in town to choose from, Its unlikely Ill be back.

They make their own bread, they call it Strong Bread, and they get THE BEST local bacon, and make their own raspberry preserves & kimchi. Once or twice a year I need a Monte Christo, and this place makes the best, hands down. Their BLTs are also fabulous because of ripe fresh tomatoes & aforementioned bacon & homemade bread. They have awesome breakfasts & the staff are super. Highly recommend.
