I love going out to eat and respect what it takes to be a waitress, I and my family have always been I. The customer service industries. That being said, I have never been treated so poorly from a restaurant. The owner Lisa was our waitress and was rude and made herself scarce and kept running into the kitchen. There were about 5 tables that were eating, which is not overwhelming for one waitress (my family is in the restaurant business, and I myself have clients and customers) and we couldnt get her to stay so we could finish ordering, very impatient and dismissive. She carded me, I left it in my car... So I was surprised she didnt card my friend (who is in her 20s). Our food was a mixture of hot and cold and when we got our ticket it was illegible. We were splitting the ticket three ways and tried to no avail to comprehend the chicken scratches. When I tried to flag our waitress/owner down she wouldnt come over. She came in and out of the kitchen, with me sitting in plain sight with my arm raised high, at least 4 times before we three decided to split it evenly three ways since it was $54, we left $60 cash( I usually tip 20%, but she was so rude). We leave and as Im buckling up I find the waitress knocking on my window saying I need to pay her more or shes going to call the police. I went inside and asked her to explain what she meant and she said she gave us two tickets, not one, and we still owed her $33. She picked up the phone and said she was going to call the police if I didnt pay. She was unable to explain the charges on the ticket we were given, nor did she have a copy or explanation of this mystery 2nd ticket... I was so embarrassed and felt awful for interrupting other peoples dinners I apologized for the raised voices ( its small and everyone heard our loud argument) and gave her a credit card... Even though there was no proof of what we ordered that would have been an extra $33. The whole thing was shocking and embarrassing, I have never had this happen, and will never go back.

Food was bad, not fresh and seemed to be microwaved. There was especially poor service not from the serving staff but from the management. When we told her about our cold food she reacted in anger and yelled at us, she was projecting the idea that we just didnt want to pay and didnt treat her staff very well either. Our server was not at fault and did a fine job. When we got the bill we went to the register to pay and communicate to her, I asked her why she was reacting in so much anger, it was a simple fix of getting some new food or just going home. I am experienced in food industry and I told her that this was no way to treat guests coming into her restaurant she refused to talk to us and said we made her waste so much food (excuse me but Im not going to pay $15 for a plate that is microwaved and not good) she then told us to leave before things got ugly! I told her we didnt want to fight we just wanted her to know but she obviously didnt care. I wanted to tip the server because she was doing a good job and obviously it wasnt her fault when I asked the lady she said she was probably crying in the back. At that point we left there was no reasoning with that woman. Our kids didnt eat and we had to drive to McDonalds where the young cashier was nicer than that lady. I just hope that if she isnt the owner somebody takes action because she is rude and will drive people away!! Never will we go into that place again or a Mazatlan if they have people like her! I will also tell people about it because no one that is going to spend money and time with family so have to put up with that!! This incident happened on 8/22/16

Without a doubt some of the best Mexican food I ever tasted. Service was totally friendly and laid back. Very decorative and colorful ambience with kind of semi-low lighting. Perfect for my date. The chips and salsa are out of this world delicious but the gigantic burrito I had was so phenomenal that I can hardly discuss chips. It was topped with gravy and sauce, the meat was the most flavorful delicious meat I recollect having in a burrito or Mexican meal except for this one Taqueria in South Gate, Los Angeles and I almost finished it because it was so insanely delicious. I took it home and fed if to my date later! :) Prices were good for the value of the meal but not inexpensive. I had a Del Negro which complimented the experience wonderfully. Absolutely recommended- this is the kind of place you want to be around whenever you are.

First, the positives. Clean. Prompt service. Nice server. Plaque behind counter saying best in the county. Now, for the food. Everything was covered with a sauce that we both heartily disliked. Neither of us even tried to finish our portions. The food just wasnt good because of that sauce. Weve been to many Mexican restaurants and for us this was truly the low point among all of them. There were few customers while we were there. We went by on several other occasions and the place was not busy. Perhaps the locals have voted with their feet. Now, as to the best in county sign. Assuredly there must be one other Mexican place that could claim that title. As you might have guessed, we wont go back when next in Newport.

I would love to say the food was great but it was not. Going to different Mexican Restaurants in my lifetime Mexican shrimp and Camarones al mojo de ago are not made the same. Thats why shrimp made with garlic are made with garlic not with all the red sauces and vegetables like the Mexican Shrimp they had in there menu. Also we were out of town and were here in Newport for a Soccer Tournament. The lady says to one of the families that she was about to close but she had to help all of us who came in. More or less she needed help and she didnt have it. Customer service was not good in a group atmosphere. But I will tell you she sure made over 800.00 with all of us that were there. Yoir welcome.

BLAND! This food has no flavor, we were not happy with our food at all. My fiance has their deluxe burrito and I had the chicken flautas. My fiances burrito was flavorless and my chicken taste like canned chicken and it taste fishy. Flautas were soaked in oil and fluffy messes like deep fried panko or something...beans and rice both over cooked. We left after a few bites and the gentlemen we spoke to about our not liking the food we were told to use salt and pepper to add flavor and he still charges us TWENTY FIVE dollars for a disgusting flavorless meal. Our server was also rude. As I write this my stomach is already turning. Go to La Roca!! Dont waste your time at Mazatlan.

Ordered some food for pick up and when I got there it was about $1.75 more than their online menu. I asked them if they could honor it this time and let them know that they are the ones that should be updating it and they told me no. The food is fine. I would have spent the same amount at McDonalds, so not the worst. Next time Ill go to Taco Bell. UPDATE: I ate my food. It was terrible. It was cold and stale. I could have spent $5 at Taco Bell and got way more food as well as it being hot still when I got back to work. Never going back to Mazatlan! Also Ive changed my two start rating to a one star.
