We got seated right away...and there were ants on the table. Our experience didnt improve from there. We moved 2 tables away, which maybe poed the waitress because she took forever to come and take our order. In fact, even after the host/manager saw us looking up at them and pointed out to her that we were waiting, she walked away into the kitchen. The food also took forever (we ordered ramen) and, to be honest, wasnt all that good. The ramen was sub-par at best. The gyoza (potstickers) were okay but not impressive by any stretch. The service here was the low point, however. The waitress did not check on us until we were almost done with our meal and never brought a check. I went up front to pay after waiting for over 10 minutes after we were clearly done eating and then, to add insult to injury, they mistakenly charged another tables bill on our card and could not figure out how to cancel the transaction. So I got to stand there while the host/manager called his boss at home to figure out how to take care of it. All while my wife was looking at me like "WTF?!" and our kid was about to lose her s___. Between the terrible service and the marginal food, I can only recommend that you avoid this restaurant. There are lots of good ramen options in Portland/Beaverton. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

When I was at Hakatamons for lunch, tofu was not only the main component, but the flavor profile- and amazing. Their hiya yako appetizer is just homemade tofu with bonito shavings and scallion and ginger - and I actually found myself pushing the bonito shavings out of the way and just enjoying the clean taste of the tofu itself, and I didnt use any sauce either. The texture is extremely firm- almost like a tortilla espanola. It was a great counterpoint as I was sipping broth from my entree and waiting for it to cool enough to eat. So much better then the normal tofu appetizer of agedashi tofu- not only health wise, but because you can really appreciate the tofu instead of it being a sponge for sauce. For my entree I had the ramen. The noodles cant compare, but the pork here at Hakatamon just melted in my mouth so I think was superior to my experience at Daikokuya. And you know, is here in Portland instead of in Little Tokyo in California, and Hakatamon is much more approachable and low key- when we came in for lunch there was only one other table occupied and the vibe was clean and low-key.

"Bland" was the word of the night. My spicy tuna crunch roll wasnt spicy. The rice was undercooked and over vinagerd. The tempura is alright. Not the greatest value. The veggies are cut too large so you mostly taste veggie over anything. Not impressed. My brother had the hakata ramen. He also described it as bland. Overall an expensive and unimpressive experience. With the many other local options available, I wont be coming back anytime soon. Keep in mind this is after the location changed, so something may have been lost in translation. Theyve only been at the Cedar Hills location since October 2014. Many of the reviews are from before then. The service was fine, atmosphere pleasant besides the sometimes quiet, sometimes alarming loud jazz music.

Owner of Hakatamon, what youre doing to your sushi chef and server is unethical. I was in there on Monday at 6:45pm and I ended being done at 8:15 and I only ordered sushi. Almost all your tables were full, there were over 30 people in your restaurant. But only one sushi chef and one server, shame on you for making them work like this. So when do they get a break? Your food is good but the service is poor and its not the servers fault. Your floor gets stickier everyday, because they are so rushed all the time, the cleanliness of your restaurant is deteriorating. If youre too cheap to hire another sushi chef and server then you need to be there from 6-8pm.

You can get better service and food at the CostCo hot dog stand. Chef cooked my boyfriends noodles in cold water making them gummy and starchy. When we politely (all things considered) sent it back the waitress responded by telling us that the chef does not know to cook noodles... Wtf? Unprofessional, run down, service was poor, and we waited twenty minutes to pay before leaving our table for the front register ourselves (check was pay at the table). Will shop at uwijimaya but never eat next door again.

went here for the first time after seeing it while shopping at Uwajimaya frequently. Regretting every penny spent. I had the standard pork ramen, was bland, crappy packaged tasting noodles, boring broth, not enough toppings (wheres the fish cake?). SO had vegetable yakiudon. Noodles were gross, soggy, slimy, and not grilled at all. Mayonnaise all over everything. Only decent thing I can say was the avocado roll we had was not terrible, but the sushi rice was certainly underwhelming. Will not go again.

This is a pretty decent Japanese restaurant in a convenient location. You can pop by after you pick up some groceries next door from Uwajimaya (great Japanese grocery store by the way). Its also very affordable, we had a Cha-su ramen and a grilled mackerel with salad and rice for just $18. Green tea is free and good. The menu is mostly Bento boxes and rolls but there is wishing and many noodle options as well. All in all, an affordable and satisfying meal. Oh, well be back.

Easily tied for my top Japanese place in Portland area. The staff and food make this place 5 stars. The staff knows me by name and is engaging and friendly! I am respected and feel life a neighbor. The sushi is fresh and many options for those that enjoy fish! Seriously the sushi is amazing. Additionally the vast menu offers many options including yummy ramen and yakitori. It us by far one of my go-tos

This is good Americanised Japanese cuisine. It is very casual and staff are friendly. The space is big enough to accommodate slightly larger parties. This is a good place if youre into Maki (sushi rolls). They also have decent Ramen, including a Nagasaki specialty called Chanpon ($13). If you are looking for kaiseki or more traditional Japanese food, look elsewhere.

My husband and I always come to this restaurant whenever were in town. In my own opinion they have the best tasting nabeyake udon. The rolls and sushi are fresh and of good quality. The servers are friendly. Well, maybe because we eat there often enough and know us. Best of all, the price is reasonable for a japanese restaurant. I definitely recommend it!

I had a bunch of the izakaya food. It was pretty good but not amazing. Theyre friendly enough and the prices are reasonable. Didnt try the sushi. I wouldnt get the chicken curry again, it was kind of expensive for a small piece of chicken and a bunch of mediocre curry sauce (with no veggies in it) and rice. The interior is pretty unremarkable.

this is small Japanese restaurant tuck into a tiny strip mall - you will forget his when you step inside. The food is traditional with great flavors. We have tried several of the varieties of Sushi, but not much of the other items. The Miso soup is spectacular and full of flavor. The customer service is very good.

The atmosphere of this place is a little awkward. It feels like youre in the corner of some warehouse and in a way you kind of are. I asked the server some questions about the food and she had no clue what I was talking about. The food itself wasnt spectacular. It wasnt horrible it just was what it was.
