I have been going to Taj for 3 years, with my two little ones and my partner. Their food is always delicious. The people who work there are kind, traditional, and very sweet to my kids. They even give my kids high fives, and sometimes even give them some extra mango lassi. At most restaurants, you dont experience the staff being kind to ones children. They have been like this since the beginning, and I think very highly of this restaurant and the staff. I think that the reviews that state that the people who work here are rude, do not understand traditional Indian culture. I have worked for a couple from India, and they remind me a lot of the staff here. I have never witnessed any interactions during my many visits that seemed rude to me. I actually do not like eating out, but I love eating here as a special treat. The parking in Ashland is somewhat scarce, but it doesnt have anything to do with the restaurant. People will experience that at most places in Ashland. I usually only have to drive around for a few minutes to find a spot, as people are coming and going often.

Oh my god... if you know your way around Indian food, lunch here is just an orgy of freshness, color, spice, flavor, meat, vegetable, fruit, and service. Everything is just so fresh and flavorful... I tend to walk out feeling like a bowling ball. And just about everything on your plate is healthy. Great chicken dishes (masala, tandoori), the naan (bread) is made just for you, and the cilantro chutney is always bright green and makes everything PERFECT. Only one suggestion... they need to change up sometimes, add a few more dishes to their buffet repertoire, or when it gets busy (any authentic non-curry meat+veg dish will do), especially for those of us who visit often and are in the mood for something new. By the way--its closer to $13 if you add a (refillable) soda and 15% tip. Still a great treat. Come hungry!

This was our first time at Taj. We were impressed by the excellent food and ambiance, not to mention the fine Indian wine which was a treat, given the completion from our own OR world class vintages. However, the meal was made very special by our waiter, Karan. He was knowledgeable, humorous, and attentive. My wife and I were partners in a restaurant where we learned that a good waitstaff couldnt make up for bad food, but that a bad waitstaff could ruin even the best meal. So kudos for staff and food.

Ive been coming here for years for the lunch buffet with my mom. My mom has also attended dinners multiple times. The food is delicious and everyone is so nice and it is very relaxed. Their naan is delicious and curries. Although I went today and a couple of hours later I got really sick. Which their food never made me sick. It was also the only thing I ate starting the day. Every restaurant has their mishaps, but overall it is always enjoyable and thats why I rate it 5 stars.

Sunday afternoon lunch buffet - walked in, seated by a well dressed host, food was marvelous but selection was limited - would have liked a little more variety of what was very good cuisine. The service was fantastic. Refreshing from todays enmass/ chain restaurant environments - attentive but not intrusive, where the staff has that obvious personal interest in the success of the establishment.

The service used to be very rude, but I think they are under new management now, because I no longer have that experience with them. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, and it was absolutely wonderful, probably the best Ive had of its kind. I also had the chicken vindaloo, which was also good, but not exactly the most flavorful vindaloo Ive had. I will definitely order the tikka masala again.

Very nice buffet and excellent staff. One star missing because parking nearby is probably generally adequate but is slightly problematic when the crowds are out and about. There are public parking lots just adjacent after going under the overpass. Trouble is there are a lot of businesses and earnestly-marked yellow-lined narrow streets so more parking would be helpful at peak times.

Two words...LUNCH BUFFET. Amazing food, and tons of it, and the key here is that they seem to cook light, which is rare for Indian food. As such you can eat three or four plates and grab a dessert as well for under $10. Yeah, you read right. The service is mediocre but since lunch is self serve, who cares? The foooooooddd is insanely good, and consistently so. Five stars!

This is my very favorite place to eat in Ashland, the food is amazing and authentic while the staff is great and very helpful. Also, more than half of the menu is vegetarian so I found myself with many delicious choices. I have tried every single one and they are all fabulous! I would suggest the buffet, you get a lot of really great food for an even better price.

Please, do not bother! The food is bland, the service is disrespectful, and the price is outrageous. My glass off wine even had some sort of crystalline mettalic grounds in it, and when I mentioned it, I was greeted with a shoulder shrugged sigh. Im not sure, poor service, tasteless food, and high prices may be Tajs version of authentic. If so, they nailed it.

Great healthy food made from scratch. They are GMO free and organic ingredients with a full spectrum of taste that will take you through a journey to india. Especially enjoyed all of the gluten-free options including gluten free naan bread. On the way out, I enjoyed their home made fennel seed candy to freshen your breath and help with digestion...

Four of us went, each having something different, and all the authentic Indian dishes were superb. Classic curry, just spicy enough, and lamb so tender you barely needed utensils. The Taj Mahal Indian beer was also a treat. Atmosphere and service were typical of Indian restaurants where customers are first.

Great variety of vegetarian options. Delicious food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had to get our order to go as we had our dog with us. We were waiting on a bench across the street and when our food was ready a server brought our food across the street to us.

Worst behavior we have ever seen. We called the restaurant before going and they said they are open until 9 and when we reached there at 8.15 they already put a closed board from inside by then and did not let us enter. The manager spoke in a very harsh way and told us to leave.

Ashland used to have two Indian restaurants and this one, deservedly, won. We now have one. Situated just off the plaza on Water Street, Taj is a favorite for tourists and locals alike. Specializing in Punjabi cuisine, Taj always hits the spot. Highly recommended.

1) The manager looked like hed rather not have people eat from his buffet, bad customer service 2) for the price of the buffet, Id have expected many more dishes. One vegetable dish? Really?! The food did taste okay, but still not worth the money.
