Ill begin with the good. It was a busy Saturday night in Oxford and we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a seat. We got some drinks at the bar. The bar service was decent and the drinks were good. After that, our experience starts to go down hill... we get seated and our waitress takes our order. Im a vegetarian who isnt fond of mushrooms so when I order the roasted veggie sandwhich I asked for no mushrooms. She tells me they cant do that. Im a little annoyed and in my head question how "fresh" the food is but since Im hungry and easy going I just say, " thats fine, I can pick them out". We also ordered 2 appetizers (because its Saturday, we hadnt been out on the weekend in a while and we were just feeling a little wild). Anyway, we waited and waited for our appetizers for what seemed like a lifetime (really about 30-40 min) and they never came. I kept trying to eye our waitress in the hopes that shell see me and come over to ask if we needed anything. I keep looking at her and we finally make eye contact but she never comes over. At this point hanger starts to set in. I can feel my blood pressure start to rise and my husband and I agree that after going this long without our appetizers, we probably wont see them until our dinner comes out. A few minutes pass and our dinner comes, but no appetizers! I was mad. Our waitress comes and asks if we need anything. Uh yeahhhhh, our appetizers we orderd. She says she forgot to put them in and assured us they will not be on our bill- no s*it!! She said she felt bad, but feeling bad wont turn back time and allow you to put in our order correctly I think to myself. But mistakes happen so I decide to forgive her. Just as I forgive her I find a big chunk of chicken(or some kind of meat) in my veggie sandwhich!! I decide its not even worth the effort to complain about that because I just wanted to eat and get the heck out of there. So we sat and ate our average tasting, overpriced dinner and ask for the bill which is then given to us with another half ass apology. I expected something to be knocked off our bill because of her incompetence, but nope. Long story short, we are never going back! Hopefully others will have a better experience than us.

Never got to actually eat here. Service/ seating was so terrible we walked out. We were a party of two. Put our name on the list and told it would be around 20 to 30 minutes wait for a table. Ok, no problem. Saturday night, its normal. Took a look around the place and saw at least 4-5 open tables. A party of 4 walked in right after us, and were seated right away. OK...I asked the hostess if that party had a reservation, she said no. Another party of 4 walked in as we were standing there looking at the menus and open tables... Waiting for our table to open up I guess. They were sat right away as well. I asked the hostess if they had reservations, she said no. I asked why are they getting sat while we are standing here looking at open tables and NOT even on a wait? And plenty of open tables. She said regardless if theres a wait or not, they wont sit small parties at tables that accommodate 4 or more. Obviously they dont want your business if youre not a party of four or more, have plenty of open tables, and not even on a wait list. We left and said we are going somewhere that actually wants business. On a side note the menu and food didnt even look that great. High prices for what appeared to be average German style food.

I would say that Steinkeller tries to make their food rise above the standard pub thoroughfare, however they simply fall flat trying. If I were to recommend something for their kitchen it would be to do simple things well, rather than trying to make complex dishes with frozen, purchased Sysco-ish ingredients. I then proceeded to order my dinner, which the appetizer came out cold and the bartender input the wrong entree. When he went to correct it, the kitchen prepared the meat for the entree that I ordered, however it was still cold on the inside of the meat, indicating they just whipped it out of the freezer and nuked the damn thing. How very, incredibly disappointing. I would rather have a decent burger and some decent fries than try to have a non-standard pub dinner that is poorly done. Heres a tip, microwave your food a little longer so its not luke warm or cold when its served.

We drove down from Dayton just to try this place out. We had high hopes. The menu looked great. But our disappointment started when we discovered that contrary to their online menu, they do not have veil schnitzel. Only pork or chicken. We went ahead and ordered the pork Yeager Schnitzel. Anyone familiar with German food will be disappointed. I felt like I was eating shake and bake. And the spaetzle seemed like it came from a box. We have Amber Rose down the road, and Schmidts in Columbus. Stick to those for real German food. It also didnt help to have a bunch of loudmouth Greek-ish kids gabbing as loud as they could the whole time. The only thing good was the beer, and I had to remind our waiter to bring be the beer Id ordered. Overall, a major disappointment.

Authentic German deliciousness. Anyone complaining about portions must have gotten a single sausage platter. Thats like going to white castle, buying a slider and bitching about the small burgers. They have a tremendous selection of beers, the wursts were delicious, and the sauerkraut could peel the paint off a car. My only regret was getting so stuffed the stairs out of the cellar going back to the car were a drag. I didnt like the bauernwurst, but thats probably just my personal taste profile. The bratwurst and mettwurst were fantastic. Will return anytime Im craving German food again.

I had the Jagerschnitzel mit nudeln. The schnitzel was okay, the nudeln were very good but the Jager sauce (brown gravy) was some if the saltiest garbage Ive ever had. It tasted like they poured it out if a jar. The waitress was wonderful; a real gem. The beir, well, it was German Hefeweizen, so it hard to go wrong with that. The decor and the atmosphere was German, the people were not (those that worked there). Would I go again? Maybe Ive lived in Germany twice so the food was sort-of German.

This past Sunday afternoon I went down for a beer while my wife got the kids ice cream. She came down with the kids for a glass of wine but we were told the kids must wait outside. The bartender explained the rules were no food was allowed to be brought in and the owner was sitting at the bar. Besides the owner and the other workers we were the only ones in the place. I chugged my beer and caught up with my family. Everyone left happy. I wont be back.

My favorite place to eat in Oxford, tied with Mac n Joes. Now that Ive graduated and moved, I feel like I took this great place for granted. Awesome imported german beer, awesome food, great environment. Go on Thursday for the $3 off liters, which I think is also the same night they have someone play accordian, which is the bomb. My only complaint is they took bavarian nachos off the menu... WHY?!
