My boyfriend and I ate at Chives Grill on a recent Saturday night. We had planned on going to Texas Roadhouse, but there was a line out the door and about an hour wait (even though it was 8:30 pm). I had come across Chives earlier in the day while Facebooking and suggested that we go there. It’s so odd – I drive that that section of Union pretty often never even noticed Chives. It’s where the Bier Haus used to be and next to Horizon Audio. There were about a dozen cars in the parking lot when we arrived. One half of the restaurant is a bar with a few crowded tables and the other half is the “dining room”. We opted to sit in the dining room. I was not expecting it to look so fancy. They had nice white table cloths and real napkins. I was expecting to be impressed. We ordered some drinks. My boyfriend was half-way through with his beer before he noticed that the “Best By Date” was four months earlier. I guess they don’t go through that much beer. He pointed it out to our server and she said “Yeah, I don’t know, I don’t really drink that”. We weren’t charged for it, though. We ordered an appetizer and our meals. The salads came out first, followed immediately (as in, twenty seconds) by out appetizer. No one is perfect, but I don’t think it would have killed them to hold our cold salads in the back before we ate our hot app. So, we ate our app & salads. The waitress came to buss our plates. So….. she put one of the salad plates on the table and then proceeded to scrape the other salad and app remnants into the salad plate RIGHT ON THE TABLE. Sure, that’s how I do things at home, but this is a restaurant. Why not pile them up and do that in the back? Our meals showed up shortly. I had the “Chive Chicken Breast”. I liked it – it was a tad too salty, but that was probably because it was seasoned and had cheese and bacon on it. My BF had Chicken Parmesan and wasn’t impressed – he said the chicken was way overcooked and the pasta was undercooked. Also, nearly everything had chives on it (good!) EXCEPT the baked potatoes. That was so odd and I still can’t figure out why there wouldn’t be chives on the potatoes when they were so abundant everywhere else. For what it was it was expensive (my $11 meal was a chicken breast/cheese/bacon, a potato, some lettuce/onions/beets/croutons and bread). The server appeared to be very poorly trained – she was unable to even tell us about the beer selection, and every time she asked us if we needed anything else she walked away before we had a chance to answer. Also, we continually overheard our server and other one talking about the other customers, which included such highlights as “pissed off”, “so gross”, "eww, whats this?" and “crackhead”. At some time in the future I may give Chives Grill another chance – perhaps during lunch. Overall I would rate Chives Grill a D+. Had we had a proficient server I would have rated it B-.

The shame of this review is that we have eaten here before. We liked it. I understand that everyone has a bad day. However, kids (around 8 and 10 years of age) allowed at the bar because their mother is a regular and wants to drink is completely unacceptable. One waitress on duty. She did her absolute best. You could here the folks, including the owner in the kitchen, giving her a hard time. Our food was more than late, more than usual that is for sure. When it did come it was horribly prepared. You could have used the french fries as tooth picks. Owner could have cared less. No apology at all. Just took the card and ran it. Dont get me wrong. I wanted to pay for our wings and couple of drinks. Not sure what this places problem is. Seems to me that if they had someone else running it with the same food...they would be fine. Bartender needs to read up on Ohio Law. He should be fired. Kids...Its a bar for god sake. Im not old fashioned. Theres just some things that shouldnt be allowed to happen. You certainly take your chances stopping in at this place.

We went there on a Sunday with my 13 year old.daughter. Food was good our waitress was great. Now for the bad part. At 630 in the afternoon there was 3 people sitting at the bar that were so drunk and so loud it was rediculous... They kept playing music and it was blaring. Our waitress turned it down and the people at the bar started complaning. Actually asked if it was us that asked to turned it down. Although we didnt complain the manager took one of our meals off the menu which was much appreciated. As we left one of the people sitting at the bar started hollering they are gone turn up the music! The food was good but if you are looking for a place to stop get something to eat with your family I would not suggest it.

Im a older person and have eaten in many different places, came upon chives about 2+ years ago, friendly sports bar and restaurant in the back, even a out door patio for summer. Food is good, but i only eat there for lunch, dont like night driving. People with children eat there, i see no problem with that. The waitress are all friendly. You see my food rating, saturdays are for good cheeseburgers, big and only a buck.

Thursday nights are awesome here. Pizza day. I highly recommend the Philly Mac and Cheese Boom Boom Pizza. You have to ask for it. Each day always has specials like dollar burgers on Saturdays, half price apps on another. Plenty of food so if you go hungry then thats your fault!

Great bar. Cheap drinks. Decent, reasonably priced food. Friendly and welcoming staff. Locals during the day, sports crowd at night, college nightclub crowd on Thursday -Saturday nights in season. Big outdoor area with a full bar and ~20 tables. Live events and karaoke weekly.

This place has a surprisingly nice beer selection, and offers pretty quality food for an inexpensive price. I would easily return as long as it was the dining area, the bar area just isnt my favorite due to the acoustics and my hearing issues.

Great food and service. The ribeye and steaks are the best around. The food is cooked perfectly, very skilled chefs and cooks. Family business for decades. The owners and managers have been doing it their whole lives and it shows.

Thursday night expect to wait 35+ minutes for a (overpriced) drink and deal with a lot of rude, sloppy drunk college kids. Hoping I can make it back another time earlier in the week.
