We were in Akron for Krispy Kreme (thats another review) and wanted to find someplace good for lunch. My daughter used Google to find Akron Family Restaurant, and Im so glad we went there. I much prefer "mom & pop" places to chain restaurants. We got there as the lunch crowd was leaving, around 1:30 in the afternoon, and were seated immediately (by Nicholas, who has THE prettiest eyes in all of Ohio, Im sure!). Yes, its very much like a diner--the napkins and silverware were already on the table, as were coffee mugs. The menu is also diner-ish, which is to say its awesome. Breakfast all day, so my daughter got pancakes and eggs, which she rated an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. I ordered the French dip special, which comes with the coleslaw and fries instead of just chips. The coleslaw was brought out first, like a salad or appetizer, which I found to be different, but okay. Im not the biggest coleslaw fan in the world, but HOLY COW!!!!! That was THE BEST COLESLAW I have ever had in my life!!! (As we were leaving, I asked if they get it pre-made, but no, they make it there in the restaurant. TRY it...you wont be sorry!) Then the sandwich came. HUGE, lots of meat, and lots of fries (not those skinny little MickeyDs fries, either--these were substantial!). Now, I have never had a French dip sandwich made with Texas toast before, and I have mixed feelings about it. Its called French dip because its normally made with French bread. The French bread normally soaks up the au jus This sandwich was on Texas toast, which was sooooo buttery and yummy...but it just made the au jus run right off instead of getting soaked up. Still good, just not what I am used to. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and cheerful. The servers were very pleasant and attentive--we didnt have to ask for refills of our Pepsis, which is awesome--she just kept on filling up our glasses. The prices are amazing for the amount of food you get. I was kind of hoping to get some pie for dessert, but there was no way!! Maybe next time...and there will definitely be a next time!!

Breakfast all day (no waffles- for that go a mile further west). Monte Christo, eggs bene, and normal eggs / meat / starch / starch combos. Coffee acceptable. Portions generous. Sandwiches with chips or fries. Philly, french dip, gyro, meatball, Italian sausage, club, standards. Old folks food: spaghetti, hot roast beef sandwiches, turkey & dressing, basically 60s diners stuff. The clientele is old enough that the place is not a salt lick which is nice. .I have had painfully slow service on a couple of occasions, an no one seemed to want to do much more than smile and say "sorry" but I swear I can remember not being 100% a day or two in my life. I dont need to be a jerk about them. For the folks who didnt like getting $15.00 food for $15, one of the nice things are the laid back customers. I guess if you got that incensed, probably better off all the way around that you not come back.

This restaurant was quite the disappointment... Yes the prices are cheep, but the price accompanies the food quality. The appearance first of all rating of 3 stars, however looking at the eating wear is quite aluminum-like and cheep, not to mention unclean! Continuing on, the food orders was either over cooked or half undercooked. Accompanied with the poor preparation, the food was distanced from a good taste. For example the chips were stale, and meat and gravy were heavily over salted. One of the dishes was something unusual looking, including the disturbing texture and taste. Service over all was average, but do not to expect a reaction from them, when you explain your worry and dislike over the food. This is was the first attempt at the restaurant, and sadly the last.

Went there for the first time on a Sunday morning around 9:30. We missed the church crowd by about 10 minutes, so we were seated right away. This is not a white tablecloth, coat-check type restaurant. It is simply good food, with good prices, and simple, good service. The restaurant was clean and well organized. My coffee cup was never empty, and our food came out quickly and exactly as ordered. The prices are extremely reasonable. The only issue of note is that parking can be a little complicated, due to being directly on W Market street, and the shape of the building. We will definitely be frequenting Akron Family Restaurant.

I was really looking forward to dinning here, I had heard so many good things about this place. I ordered the sausage sandwich with peppers and onions. It was wonderful, well cooked and very tasty. The side of fries were also very good. Our server dropped our food and check and we never saw her again. eventually I had to ask another server if she could find ours being as i was hoping to get a drink refill. Even the staff was unable to find my sever, another server did bring me a drink and apologized for the lapse in service.

Do not waste your time or money here. My husband and I went there for the first time today. I think I almost chipped a tooth on their bacon. My husband couldnt even eat his steak it was flavorless and as chewy as a kong ball(chew toy for dogs). When we complained all we got in response was awwwww & do you want steak sause? Are you kidding me? The only thing that was good was the cappuccino. The potatoes were not done and again flavorless. Ten years ago this place was awesome but sadly this is no longer the case.

We are frequent repeat customers. Portion sizes are good and the prices are a good value. Occasionally service has been slow, but that is not the norm. Most visits, the service is fast, and I dont even finish my first cup of coffee before it arrives. Kids menu is nice, and offers a good selection. We have also used the restaurant for a party, and are getting ready to use them again for another party. We will continue to dine here for sure :-)

This is a place that you would have to go to at least once. A small family-owned local restaurant that prides themselves on good food that has been here for years. There is the normal crowd generally but they do serve fast. I was there for breakfast, but I have been told that all of their food is good. On this particular occasion I happen to enjoy the pumpkin pancakes I recommend them to all.

Granted I work here :). But Ive always thought Akron Family was a great place to eat. The people are very nice and the food is very good for the price especially! N its not a chain so you can actually talk to Dean the owner if you want. He tries to come around and talk to everyone. We take complaints way more seriously here then when Ive worked at corporate places. Give us a try :).

The food is decent for a breakfast/lunch spot. The reason for the lower rating was cleanliness. Just as I was sitting down at the table, I noticed food on my chair and I had to wipe it off. It was hasbrowns and some jelly, which would have ruined my new pants. My coffee cup had food on it, as did my silverware.
