I will never patronize Big Eds ever again!! I went there with my husband and daughter today because I heard about how great this restaurant was and we wanted to try it out..bad choice! Since this restaurant doesnt have a kids menu, I had to order My 4 year old daughter a hot cake and bacon meal at full price and I was fine with that because she really wanted a pancake. When the pancake came to the table it looked over cooked/burnt but I still let my daughter eat it because she wanted it. Once she tried it, she told me she didnt like it so I let the waitress know that she didnt like it and could we get grits instead. She said ok and took the plate away but what happened next completely blew my mind!! Some man(later I found out was the manager) came over to the table very upset stating, "You can have the pancake but this is not burnt!". He said it in a very angry tone and I said..my daughter doesnt like it. Then he said,"I sell a thousand of these everyday and theres nothing wrong with this!" I stated again,"She doesnt like it!" Now Im getting upset because Ive never heard of a "manager" argueing with a customer and I said again..we dont want it. He had the nerve to say, "She ordered it and Im suppose to loose this pancake because she doesnt want it!!!" And now my heart is racing because he is now pointing and referring to my 4yr.old as "she." He walks away and Im LIVED!!!!! The waitress kept apologizing for his actions but its not her fault that her "manager" doesnt understand customer service!! I will contact the better buainess bureau because it seems like this is the norm for Big Eds as I have read other reviews where people were treated in the same disrespectful, demeaning and just plan RUDE manner. I will tell everyone I know and since Im a manager at one of the popular grocery chains that understand customer service...I will tell my customers and friends NOT to patronize Big Eds!!! I will keep going to Briggs where they KNOW what customer service is all about!!!

We had eaten here before and thought the food perfectly cooked. On Mothers Day however (a day when Mothers should have choices) we went and had a menu presented to us that gave us what they intended to prepare. period. So I was informed we would be paying 9.95 for the menu per plate (we normally dont spend that much on breakfast) and in addition to this when the food came HIS was still cooked well, but mine was too greasy to eat. We had ordered the same thing, which makes you REALLY wonder. It started my Mothers Day off the wrong way. The nice waitress asked me if everything was wonderful and I let her know that mine had been greasy. She appeared shocked but did not murmer so much as a "oh Im sorry, can I get you something else, or anything in that line of apologies." She just asked me if she could take it away. So Big Ed, you earned my wrath for the $10 you made off me today. And now I will not bring my inlaws to your place as I had planned and will recommend the other breakfast options Ive found in the nooks and crannies of Raleigh whenever asked. I will always say Big Eds is too high and they dont care about customer choice on special days. I mean COME ON ! The one day a year a woman gets to make choices and you take them away from her, then give her a poor dish. You should be ashamed!

I went to this establishment on July 5th and was very disappointed first of all we had a party of 12 people including 2 children. Well after we ate we all went up to pay for our meals. As we were leaving this establishment the hostes/cashier came outside and approached us with conviction stating " that we did not pay for 2 of our meals and that we needed to pay" After we explained this and showed proof verifying the payments had been made on our behalf. The manger/owner name (Sam) then came outside and was very adamant still accusing us of not paying for 2 meals. He then went back inside and Im assuming after recounting the tickets at the register and realizing their mistake they had another waitress to come outside and tell us to "have a good day" no apology or anything ! Not to mention that we left a 20 tip so money wasnt clearly an issue. Not only is this discriminatory on so many levels it was also an embarrassing and hurtful I am writing this because I feel that the should be shared and rest assure I am going to share this with the Better Business Bureau. I also ted sent this exact same post on there website on face book to have it deleted 3 times.

Worst first-time experience ever!!! Took my grandmother to this place Nov 15, 2016 and was treated like a criminal. The Hot Cake was NOT hot/warm the first nor second time I kindly requested it, and it tasted horrible when I tried it (couldnt get pass 3 bites). Instead of offering an alternative, the manager yelled at me in front of my grandmother about how many hot cakes he sold that day, and then immediately called the Raleigh Police Dept and told them I was there & trespassing. Again, I have never been to this restaurant a day in my life. I waited for them; The RPD did NOT ask me any questions, instead, listened to the manager portray me as some peasant on the street looking for free food, then proceeded to escort me out of the restaurant, and banned me from ever returning. The truth is: Our meal came up to $10.61 (paid) and $6 for the uneaten hot cake (unpaid). (Bc of the way he handle the situation, i refused). i hate to pull the race card, but this would NOT have happened to a white woman. I was not there for "free" food, Im certainly in no need for freebies. I just wanted my grandmother to have a good time & breakfast :(

I heard about this restaurant on television and bookmarked it for when I visited my family. Me, my mom and aunt came to Big Eds instead of our usual breakfast spot, Bojangles. I was really excited to try the huge pancakes and wanted to see if I was bold enough to order three. Once I got there and saw how big one of the pancakes were I knew it was over. My huge pancake was good along with my turkey sausages. I had the rest of my pancakes the following morning for breakfast. I originally ordered the country ham but our waitress informed us they were really salty so I declined. My mom had eggs, bacon and grits which she said were good too. Now my aunt raved about her catfish and grits. Later that night she was still talking about her meal. Overall the meal was good and the service was great. Everyone was friendly and the decor of the restaurant was cool with all the cute sayings

A Raleigh legend that has been around for as along as I can remember. I wanted a no-carb breakfast and they gave me just what I wanted. Great service by Cindy and Liz. Reminds me of time years ago, when Big Ed was alive. You have to see the old real moonshine still on display along the wall. I remember Big Ed telling, years ago, that when he first displayed the still in the restaurant an officer told him he was going to have to put some holes in that thing to make sure it can never be used again. Big Ed said, "I took it out back and shot a few holes in it, there on the back side" pointing to the moonshine still, in his overalls." I saw some of biggest pancakes ever served here, real old time sausage links, grits and more. The food is southern all the way with things you just dont find other places. The parking can be a big challenging but it still worth the trip.
