Well I ordered a full sheet cake and a half sheet cake for my sons baptism in 3 flavor lemon pound cake with diplomat filling, red velvet with cream cheese filling and German chocolate and all had the butter cream cheese frosting and they all were amazing. The decorations were mediocre, the grocery store would have been more interesting and I was surprised they charged $30 extra and that was on one cake. I guessed I assume buy a cake and it has to be decorated and being from the bakery your gonna spend hundreds of dollars. So I finally decide on how my cake to look and they make comments like "thats gonna be expensive because its fondant and its a lot more work" so then you dont want to spend twice the amount of the cake on the decore so your forced to select another cake. This time my sons 1st birthday was approaching and I wanted a cake for his birthday and since we were pleased with the the lemon pound cake and red velvet so I go with those two for my son 1st birthday. That was the flavored that had me return to the bakery and to my surprise this time the red velvet was good but the lemon pouwnd cake was too white to be lemon and not a hint of lemon qqThe funny part my sister asked me what flavored did you ordered as they were cutting the cake and I replied you have to wait and see! Not realizing I too would be surpriSed. So I call the next business day and I spoke with Holly one of the managers, and she said she spoke to the person who made the cake and said it was lemon pound cake just like on the order form. You see I had the red velvet at the park and it wasnt until everyone had a piece I realized our order was wrong and we had left over, I offere to show it to her, didnt seemed to care and said our lemon cake doesnt have a yellow color and your really not gonna taste the lemon, than why call it lemon cake??????? Thats one of the reason why I returned not to mentioned they wrote Happy 2nd Birthday Instead of 1st, that wasnt on the order sheet. If I had not told the person picking up the cake to text me a picture I would have been embarrassed. No I will not return to the bakery because of their inconsistency, lack of responsibility, and overall poor customer service, and all this were mainly from the women who took my order, person who made the cake, and Holly.

I chose this bakery based on rave reviews and recommendations on Next Door. I also liked how quickly and nice Katie was via email correspondence. They definitely have an edge on other bakeries when it comes to response time. However, communicating a cake idea was sorely lacking when I was quoted $79 for a flat round cake that looked like a Nuka Cola bottle cap versus a $109 quote for a 3D Nuka Cola cake where I was told the base or bottom would look like the bottle, I chose the $109 design because I thought it surely was more impressive given the price difference and description. Man, was I wrong! When I came in to pick up my already paid for cake, I was disappointed. I had been charged $117 (tax) for a 3 layer 8 inch round cake with a fondant top that looked like the bottle cap. No shape. Nothing special. Basically a taller versus of the $79 quoted design. I have never been more disappointed in a cake before. Ive had way more elaborate cakes made that not only looked better but also tasted a whole lot better for half the price #suarezbakery charges. As I stood there waiting for the staff to decide (in the back kitchen) what to do, I began to cry. I tried so hard to make my husbands birthday special and Suarez had ruined it for me. Being a fair person, I waited to try the cake first before posting anything. Again, I was disappointed. I chose the diabetic vanilla with chocolate diplomat filling and buttercream icing. None of it was special. The cake was dense and a bit dry with very little flavor. The filling was good for filling but a very bland cream. The buttercream didnt taste like buttercream to me. Again pretty bland and was thinly spread on the sides. There was an inch thick of some sort of dense mixture on the top under the fondant . It was like crisco mixed with some sugar. Not very tasty. My 7yo son didnt even eat 5 bites of his slice. So what did I get from this massive disappointing experience? I was given 50% of the design fee back. A whopping $35. I basically paid $80 for a bland dense kinda dry cake. I couldve made one better myself. Save yourself some money and frustration. Dont use Suarez Bakery for custom cakes.

I have been a patron of this location ever since it was Federal Bakery. And that was a long time ago!! My first visit was when I was a little girl, maybe 3-4 years old, after a Dr. appointment across the street from Park Road Shopping Center. Those medical buildings are long gone. As I gazed at all the goodies behind the same kind of glass cases, I saw "CREME HORNS"!! Mom got a couple along with some cookies and danish for Dad. I have been hooked ever since. Birthday cakes from "The Bakery" were a tradition carried on in our family even through my niece and nephews childhoods. They are both in their 20s now. After moving away from Charlotte 10+ years then returning in 1989, I immediately sought out my favorite -- creme horns. I dont care for those from other shops. The location had changed the name to Suarez Bakery. Oh no! I was so upset but I eventually went inside. The new owner told me that they had the original recipes from the Federal Bakery owners and assured me no changes would be made to them. I bought my treasured treat along with a variety of other items to take home to my parents. And no one was disappointed!!! Now its my turn to take my Mom (83 years young) to THE BAKERY. I even ordered some creme horns and discovered that chocolate filling was available, too. So I did half original, half chocolate. Yummy! They are the freshest and best when ordered. Everything was delicious including the Danish and cinnamon rolls in the order at the promised time. So 50+ years and lots of delicious memories will keep me coming back. To be fair and honest there have been VERY few instances of dry birthday cakes and slightly stale pastries -- no more than 4 or 5 times spread out a long time! No one is perfect! And its time to get some creme horns for Christmas along with some sort of decadent dessert for the holidays. Ill be ordering very soon. This is a long review but this establishment needs to know there are some patrons with a very long history filled with many fond memories. See you soon!!

I bought 5, 8" cakes for a party. 5 different flavors. That was $220 plus tax. I feel like most of that cost was in the presentation of the cake, because they were pretty disappointing. I tried each cake during the course of the party. First, cutting the cakes was a doozy; the cakes were so light that they collapsed a bit in the center once cut, which made for messy pieces. Second, the cakes themselves were far too light; both red velvet and German chocolate are typically very thick cakes, but not these. All the cakes had the same consistency, airy, like angel food cake in a way, excluding the carrot cake, which was the only cake that tasted as I expected it might. This consistency didnt detract anything from the coconut cream cake, Ill add, since cream cakes are meant to be lighter. Third, the icings and fillings were a disaster, the worst part. It tasted as if they used two different icings for what went between the layers and what sat outside, and they didnt mesh well. The outer layer for all the cakes was also very airy, and again, this only went well with the coconut cream. I imagine this was to make decorating easier on them, but I did not enjoy eating the thin layer of cool whip on my red velvet cake. Also, the icing between the layers was spread far too thin, leaving the cakes a bit dry and lacking flavor. I have more to say about each cake specifically, but Ive ranted long enough. The presentation was excellent, they earned that second star at least.
