Great experience at 12 Bones in Arden. The young woman taking our order was very nice and accommodating. Another lovely young woman was taking payment for the order and she also brought our meal to us. She was also very kind and genuine. The atmosphere was very welcoming and low key. even though we were there during lunch time and the restaurant was very busy, there was time for pleasant comments and helpfulness. The food was also outstanding and we got takeout to take home for another day. What a joy to eat at a restaurant with happy, kind and unhurried employees. We will definitely return and tell our friends.

I hate to give this place 3☆ because its been my favorite lunch go to for about 12 years. We came about 3 weeks ago and the ribs were so tough we couldnt eat them. They literally used to fall apart. So we decided they were just having a bad day. No. Happened again today :(! I hate such a staple and tradition is going down hill. We wont be back, but I hope they can get their charm back. Sucks that $40 was thrown in the trash. I did however give it 3 instead of 1 because the sides were great as always.

We ordered the full slab blueberry Chipotle as well as the full slab of brown sugar dry run. Definitely worth the detour coming thru. A touch of spice with the right amount of sweet without being over whelming. The corn pudding was yummy, cheese grits tasty and the greens were flavorful. The smokey potatoe salad had a touch too much smoke but tasty none the less. The brisket had a nice flavor just a bit dry though. Would recommend the ribs to anyone. A must stop in ur travels

Its an Asheville staple and the most famous BBQ place in the area. Lots of people dont realize this location exists in South Asheville, Arden area. It doesnt have quite the nostalgic look as the one downtown in the river arts district however theres almost no wait time and this location stays open till 4pm and take out is till 6pm. Their BBQ and sides are amazing. A favorite of people, is their dry rub ribs, very Memphis style. Almost 0 fat in their meet.

I love the hickory smoky and flavorful ribs packed with sugary sweetness and caramel from Millard reaction between the brown sugar and lean ribs. You dont taste any fat! I enjoyed the chewiness. Pulled pork was juicy and packed with BBQ flavor, especially when served in company of sausage and hot bums as a hogzilla sandwich. Low key and canteen-like deco which makes the cost low. We also enjoyed the Royal Crown sodas which isnt available everywhere.

Didnt meet my expectations. Having had BBQ around the country including Kansas City and Memphis, I was excited to try Carolina BBQ, especially 12 Bones based on all of the raving reviews. The ribs had good flavor but were a little tough, not the fall-off-the-bone type I expected. The jalapeno cheese grits were very tasty as well. The other sides--corn bread, mac & cheese, beans, and potato salad--were just okay. I think Luellas might be better.

Best barbecue and ribs in Western North Carolina. They have amazing dry rub ribs, pulled pork plates and sandwiches that are tender and mouth-watering. Try their amazing sides as well. They have jalepeno cheese grits, sweet potatoes, cornbread, corn pudding, beans and more to make you want to come back for me. The hours can be tricky and sometimes they are only open for carry out so check the website for information.

I honestly cant see how not give it 5 stars. The ribs are amazing every single time, no matter the flavor. Its got a surplus of tables inside and outside, but it still gets packed haha. The food comes out in minutes, sorta making you wonder if they already knew what you wanted. Its just freaking good. Also if youre wondering whether if 6 or 12 bones ribs will fill you up. 6 is more then enough trust me

Brisket was not very flavorful and dry, good portions but overall disappointing given the hype. The beans were okay, again little flavor. Cornbread was delicious. Some of the individuals I went with had the pork bbq which they really enjoyed. We arrived later in the day when the restaurant portion (only take-out was available) was closed which may have contributed to the quality.

There is honestly no reason to order anything besides the ribs here. The blueberry chipotle is the staple, but if you get the change for the bacon chipotle do not hesitate to pull the trigger. The best side to compliment anything you get are the grits and the cornbread will be the final nail in the coffin before you slip into a wonderful, satisfied food coma.

Hit or miss here. Sometimes its good sometimes its not. Im not a fan of their brisket. If you decide to go here get their ribs or pulled pork but I believe there are much better bbq joints around Asheville. I have had good tender ribs here but then again I have had bad tough ribs here also shop you never know what you are going to get.

The blueberry chipotle and pineapple habenero sauces on their smoked ribs is a show-stopper. The smoke flavoring is not over-powering so you really get to enjoy the flavor of the pork. Had the corn pudding and the coleslaw as sides, both were outstanding. Local beers and sodas are available to drink.

Sauces are amazing, sides are great except the green beans. They were way too mushy it was almost like eating baby food. They tasted good just didnt like the texture at all. Way over cooked. Great selection of BBQ sauces! Work on the beans and I think it would be perfect.

First time customers....we just happened to drive by. The food and service matched all the great reviews. My wife loved the pulled pork sandwich. I tried the chopped brisket and it was great too. We will definitely be back if were ever in the area again.

Have heard how great these ribs are but my wifes were a tad bit tough. The flavor was wonderful and great variety of sauces. We loved the sides especially the cheese grits. We will come again. Loved the piano condiment stand. Great use of an old piece.

Pros: Very good good pulled pork sandwich. Unique sauces. Interesting building, inside and out. Friendly staff. Decently priced. Cons: No fries on the menu. No fried Okra on the menu. No regular cole slaw on the menu. Id eat here again, though.

Wow - Im stuffed and for less than $10 - that never happens around here. Everything was great! Dont know why in 6 months I have never been here! And to the person that claimed the meat was dry, I hope you try again - my pulled pork was fantastic!

I wish I had an experience to rate. You guys are only open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am - 6:00pm? What the hell? So much for our dinner plans. Kind of Falls in line with the Asheville "work ethic" Ive heard so much about.

The sauces they make for their ribs are incredible...sweet and spicy and the ribs are juicy. The sides are ok, but the ribs alone give 12 Bones the reputation they deserve. Probably the best ribs Ive had anywhere in any state.
