First, there are 3 Indian restaurants in the Syracuse area. Two have been around a long time, and the other opened up just a bit closer to Syracuse than my preferred Indian restaurant, India House. These other two are both in Liverpool, down the road from the Carousel Mall, so dont make the mistake of eating at Samrat. Either of the two on Old Liverpool road are worth the drive, and they both have parking available. Rather than tell you how bad this place is and leave you with no alternatives, Ive prefaced this with the important information, go elsewhere! My review starts with the service. The woman working there didnt stop talking on her cell phone even while waiting on us. Soon after ordering Vegetable Jal Frozi and Malai Kofta, our hungry mouths were devastated. My dish, the Jal Frozi, had the standard frozen mixed vegetables (cubed carrots, lima beans, green beans, corn) with broccoli, onion, and potato. The sauce was oil and tumeric, nothing more. It should have had tomato and onion base. It was flavorless and disgusting. My girlfriend also has the same misfortune. Her Malai Kofta looked good, but was flavorless. I dipped my bread in her sauce, but couldnt taste it. We both asked for medium spicy, but spices were absent. The rice was unflavored. The bread was the only part I enjoyed. We both were starving, but stopped eating prematurely. The server sat in the corner talking away while we waited to leave. I felt trapped in to paying $11 for a plate of frozen vegetables, so we left no tip. I would have returned the food if I could. Samrat has been around a long time. I had a friend that worked in the kitchen back in 1992. After my first tasting, I was a vegetarian in paradise. Through the 90s, I ate there or sometimes at the Indian place on South Salina. Both were good. Then, sometime after that, Samrat was sold, and the new owners maintained the name, but not the quality. The competition on Salina moved in Liverpool and is now known as India House.

This is the worst Indian Restaurant that i have ever been in following are some of the Highlights: Trust me guys I am a Hotel Management Grad and i know i am talking about. Lamb Rogam Josh - tasted like Boiled piece of Lamb in some really bad Gravy Nothing close to actual Lamb Rogan Josh. Please get the Spelling right on your menu Naan - As good as having raw Dough. Dal Makhani - Really bad and i can feel the spice in my mouth in an actual preparation that will never happen. Mint Sauce - This had more Green color than Mint. Pickled Onion - Had more Red Color than anything else Only good thing was the Beer thank god that was not prepared in house. I think they should pay people to come down and eat at Samrat.

I went there with my wife and children and i was shocked. I ate like a madman with no regrets in my mind. It became a addiction and i couldnt stop going every weekend. The service was great and of course the food.I have visited "India House" and "Sahota Palace" I thought were lacking taste and desire i much rather go to "Samrat". There are not many Indian Restaurants in Syracuse. If you dont have a Samrat" close to you, theres a new Indian restaurant opening on Erie Blvd. as Im told. Spare yourself the trouble and gas and go to Samrat you wont be disappointed.

Every time Im in the mood for Indian this is the place to go; the lunch buffet is only $9 for all the delicious Indian you want. Everything tastes fresh and delicious, and Ive always been satisfied. The restaurants small and cozy and smells like Chicken Tikka, just like it should. For dinner my family of 7 can split a few of the entrees and still have leftovers; from the vegetarian dishes to the goat, the dishes are delicious down to the last drop of sauce mopped up by naan. HIGHLY recommended for anyone looking for a delicious meal!

I had lunch there today right around noon and had the lunch. It wasnt busy yet and was able to be seated immediately. For not being fully aware of Indian food (this was the second time Ive ever had it), I thought it tasted good and was well seasoned. As someone who doesnt care for too spicy of food, the curry was just right for me to have the hint of spicy while not being overpowering. The place is a little run down, but Ive come to expect that in Syracuse. It adds to the charm. I would eat there again.

This is the kind of quintessential "hole in the wall" restaurant that spares on decorations and real estate but serves up amazing food. Ive only been in while the lunch buffet was available ($9/person), and its rare that I dont leave stuffed-- everything Ive had has been so delicious that I keep wanting to try more! I also recommend trying the mango lassi (yogurt) drink-- very tasty.

I am an Indian guy from Toronto, Canada. We have an abundance of Indian restaurants, however, I have never had food that reminded me of India. This restaurants food as well hospitality were amazing and it made my 1 night stay in Syracuse totally worth it. Shout out to their employee Dev for his amazing service. Must try: Salty Lassi, Aloo Gobi and Dal with Garlic Naan.

This is the worst place ever I visited. They serve buffet lunch for $9 but its horrible. I never tasted such a worst food any time in my life. I would never visit or reccommend any one. My stomach was upset immediately after eating there. The hotel manager has no hospitality. The place is not hygene as well. I would have given zero stars if possible.

It was my first time trying Tikka Masala(hopefully I am spelling this correctly) and it was so good. The sauces was really good with the flatbread provided. I also ordered a Mango juice and it tasted so go that I ordered another to go. The service was great and the server was so kind and lovely. I am going back today for dinner.

Great good. Starting coming here a few months ago. Chai tea is good. The chicken tandoori is amazing. Best I have ever had. They god you have a chicken per order to share at your table. Great food and people. Will be a regular. Learned the appetizer crackers are called papadum! Also very good!

A must for thoes who know anything about Indian food. I came to this place at the lowest point in my life. Still even at my lowest the food was so delicious that there was no way I could even stay depressed. Now that I am back in town it it is still the best Indian food I have ever had.

Ive been here 22 times in my life. The buffet cannot be beat in price or taste. The best lamb vindaloo ever. They were friendly and convenient. Food was the best. Anyone who posts a bad review should come see me so I can illuminate them on the recourse of their transgressions.

It was a nice place for lunch. Clean. Limited options on the buffet but decent food. Not packed on a Thursday for lunch, but have a good crowd mainly from SU and the hospitals near by. Good price, plus special offers on Foursquare.

I used to come here every week when I lived in Syracuse. The food is great and the service is even better. If Harmindar is still there, she is the best waitress Ive ever met. So many great memories at this place.
