It was Monday, April 18, 2016. I just returned to work after a 2 week stay at home with a newborn. I had a meeting at work to discuss our summer picnic and food options. Someone mentions BBQ. I had heard of the Memphis King and heard it was good. Little did I know it was an understatement. I went to their location, tucked away in Schenectady on Van Vranken, a location I avoid for the most part. I went in with the intent of being disappointed and to get some catering prices. I ordered the fairly priced lunch special: $6.00 Pulled pork or chicken sandwich, a side of either baked beans or coleslaw, and a drink. While I waited, I chatted with Bob, who runs the place about his business and other area "competitors". When I received my meal I went outside and ate my pulled pork sandwich in delight. The baked beans were full of meat and onions that were cooked and seasoned so well that I wanted more of them too. At the risk of going into food coma, I decided to just leave after my meal and go back to work only to return days later with my co-worker and her husband. On my return trip I got my food to stay, and sampled every BBQ sauce in the place. The house special is my favorite. I also order the fried chicken thigh and sunk into a deep fried state of heaven. I would return. I went back with a different co-worker who enjoyed their food as well and others who have ranted and raved about the "ends" only available on Fridays which you should order in advance of Friday to ensure you get some. They close either at 6 or when they run out of food which apparently the latter happens 5 out of 6 days of the week. Keep it up Memphis King. You have restored my faith in food in the Capital Region. No longer will I settle for Sausage and Pepper corporate lunches.

If I was rating this place on food alone it would be 5 stars. The service is terrible. Called in half an hour early to order food for my wife, who only gets half an hour for lunch. Told them I would be adding food to my ticket when I arrived because I have the time. They didnt put my wifes food in when I called it in saying "we put the whole ticket in together"....then what is the point of calling in my order early.. I got to eat my wife had to return to work before her food was ready

Awesome ribs with five choices of BBQ sauce: house, hot, sweet, tangy and white! The smoker is out back, and todays supper started cooking yesterday. You can order chicken, pork, or beef. So many choices for a BBQ Meal Combo! Their macaroni and cheese is very very good -- almost as good as my homemade recipe. They offer kettle fries, baked beans, greens, and slaw. "The Memphis King" is all about offering true southern - style food with friendly service. I will be coming back, yall.

Very good, a hidden gem. Everything freshly prepared. Meats slow cooked. Reasonable prices and quick service. But the police rights sign posted by there thrash can. It belongs in the thrash. If someone takes that sign for gospel they will just get themselves jammed up. Consult an attorney before you post "legal rights". But other then that I would go back again.

We only ordered 3 small meals for lunch and the wait was 1.5 hours...Once we went to pick it up it took another 30 minutes waiting in the restaurant for the food. I gave this 5 stars due to the food since its simply amazing. They just need to hire more staff or start working faster and id be in there all the time.

Decided to check it out with my husband and father in law on a rainy day. Even though they ran out of chicken I came for the brisket and I was not disappointed. Portions were excellent for the price and the food was heavenly. Will definitely be ordering in the future and recommend it to anyone who loves good good!

Everything is fresh and delicious . I prefer eating in so I can sample all the sauces but to go is just as great. Better get there early or call ahead and place your order . Once its gone its gone. Mac and cheese and Fried chicken is ridiculously good . Next level . Get some !!!!

Food is great but I cant get there until around 5pm and several times Ive had to go somewhere else because they sold out of food. Not sure how that happens. I guess its good for them and bad for the working man lol.

These guys have created bbq the likes of which all bbq i will eat the rest of my life shall be judged against. I can assure unless you are in kansa city or texas you will not find better bbq. Dinosaur can suck it!

Best BBQ around! The brisket melts in your mouth, the pulled pork does too. The mac n cheese is amazing and the cornbread is off the chain! What are you waiting for go now, You will not be disappointed!

Its all good. I highly recommend the brisket. 4/15/17 Update: I just ate at a place thats been on TV, and known as the best BBQ in Alabama. It doesnt hold a candle to Memphis King.
