I visited Ruchi for the first time and I am not sure if I will ever return. The restaurant is very tiny and cramped and there isnt really a waitstaff but more like a guy handling every single table in the restaurant. Hence the service at lunchtime was ridiculously slow. I arrived at 12:20pm on a Thursday afternoon, Had my order taken by 12:40pm and my food (channa masala and malai kofta with naan) arrived at 1:30pm. Many of the patrons were also like myself, sitting there for an endless amount of time with no food in front of them. I also ordered a mango lassi and it took about 40 minutes to get that along with a cup of water. The restaurant also has copper cups for water which when I wiped the interior of the cup with my napkin the white napkin was covered in black residue :( The waiter/lone guy did get me a glass cup for my water which was nice. I also must say that the food was actually awesome.....I only ordered North Indian as it is a North Indian restaurant but I do see they serve some South Indian dishes....but definitely not the place to go on a NY lunch hour. Luckily my boss was out of the office for the day and we had the leisure of a 2 1/2hr lunch........ Last, my only other comment is that as customers left the restaurant, the tables were never cleaned. Their food remains rotted on the tables while we were eating and had to look at it. I being a vegetarian did not like how the left over chicken remains were on the table next to me because that is what those customers ordered......and even 45 minutes after the people left, the stuff still sat. This was the case for all the tables in the restaurant though. So despite the good food....the service and atmosphere sucked. Not sure if Ill go back.

Decline in standards I first visited Ruchi five months ago. Loved the food , the staff was friendly. I ate all week we stayed in Ny from Ruchis But, After four months I see a drastic down hill when I went there last night. The only stewardess, Indian girl seem to be angry with everyone and absolutely had no smile . She was frowning the whole time. Ordered a mango lassi , I could feel something has gone bad in it coz it tasted Rancid. I asked the steward Vikas I believe , without apology or even changing the drink he said , it must be the yogurt or the mango. He didnt care nor had no sense of service recovery. Ordered lamb Vindaloo, it was too Tangy and spicy. I wonder whether the cook has been changed since the last time. Im sure no one was supervising the stewards/stewardesses coz they had no clue on customer service , greetings or smiles. To the owner, you better get the service back on Track !

I believe greatly in Indian hospitality and ruchis service staff is really helpful and humble. But I believe more in the power of great food that can change the perspective towards restaurants. And ruchis chef is pure evil and needs to check his attitude along with his cooking skills. I found the food stale and reported it back to the kitchen. With a very disrespectful unacceptable response from the chef. We refused to eat the food and ordered for our check and paid not a small amount of 23$ as the staff wasnt shamefully enough to not charge us for not eating stale food. Well ordinaryly this can be ignored but I rather ask people to keep this restaurant at bay to avoid stomach bugs. This act of unkindness at an Indian restaurant is extremely bothersome as Indian food is all about love and sharing it. Perhaps the chef will change his attitude towards customer service after this...

This is a new restaurant just a block off the WTC site. With all the construction it doesnt jump out at you, but it is worth a try if you like Indian food. I stopped in for an early dinner and was the only customer for a bit - always concerning, but I was glad I gave them a chance. The menu is extensive, prices and serving size reasonable. I had the Lamb Kali Mirchi (cubes of lamb with ground peppercorn and spices) and their garlic pepper naan. They have yet to get their beer/wine license, but I guess you can bring your own alcohol. While I was there some regulars came in, so based on my experience I think with time they will do well if they can last through all the surrounding construction mess.

2 adults and a 3 year old during lunch. Only gave us 2 cups of water. Asked for another.. never got it. Gave our order including a soup. Soup never came.. because order was not written down. Had to ask for another utensil set because we only had two on the table. Were they assuming the 3 yr old is not eating? Also asked if anything we had has nuts in it they say no.. but then my kid broke out in a rash the way he does with nuts.. so their utensils or cooking apparatus must be contaminated with nuts. Not blaming the restaurant for the last complaint. I shouldnt have brought my nut sensitive kid to eat Indian food... though hes had Indian food before and he was fine.

Dont expect service in this hole in the wall place! We got seated by the window, sun beating down on our backs when we asked for blinds to be lowered or curtain pulled (both available), we were told to deal with the heat! After arguing for a while, I did get a table change. Food is expensive and not that great. They CHEAT you with the 50% off, it only applies if every single person in your party gets one entree. Gratuity is already billed, no choice! Perhaps they know no one will pay for the pathetic service, so they direct bill it.

Decent Indian food, but the quantity is a compromise. Also, servers arent great with recommending vegetarian options, so pick what you like. Paneer entrees are good and so are the appetizers. Overall, the food was definitely better than expected. The ambience isnt great, furniture is old, tables were wobbling when I visited the place last week. Location is great, especially if you are looking for Indian food near World trade Centre :)

This is by far the best Indian food available in the Financial District. I eat lunch here at least once a week. During lunch everything on the menus half price so you can get one dish, rice and a naan for less than $12. Its also a real restaurant with silverware and glasses rather than the usual canteen style places that just slop the food on to styrofoam plates. Saag paneer, malai kofta and the chicken vindaloo are all really good.
