HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.. BIG BIG NO .... Reviewed on 06/14/2015 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Horrible food. It was sunny sunday afternoon 2 & being starved for long shopping session, my my tongue craving for Punjabi food. As soon i reached, i was surprised to being forced routed to Buffet. After long plea with rude manager (he was acting as the restro was his ancestral inheritance), i was warned to get the food after 20min which we (me & wife) agreed upon. Being veg Ordered Paneer Kali Mirch and tandoori Naan which was intentionally delayed to 30min (as i rejected the buffet proposal). Next surprise was Paneer Kali Mirchi was green curry thinner then gujrati dal with bits of piece of paneer and tasteless with no Punjabi masala ( I can say we you guys have roamed in Indian Railways, you might have tasted better taste food). We complained to manager (he could not speak English) but after 10min of Hindi debate, he finally surrendered and asked me to choose a replacement. To win the insane war, he got me paneer kadhai which to my surprise was vegetable bowl rinsed in tomato ketchup which he termed as gravy vegetable. We didnt eat the food, donated 32$ to their charity (sorry but didnt pay any TIP as manager was my personal waiter). My review might seem harsh but considering the quality & taste of food to amount i paid was insanely & i can say i have never been cheated in US on food quality /taste like this ever. My rating for quality + taste of food is rating is -10 & rude manager is -100 Next time if i am starving in Newport mall, i would be more happy to feast even on subway. Or rather drive to Indian street and eat a DOSA in worst case. This place is still making bread - 1) Indian community in newport who are not aware of Indian street and lazy to drive or harsh winter climate 2) Indian people starving to death during lunch in nearby banks (JP etc) 3) People who havent tasted actual Indian food in India WORST EXPERIENCE

I was shooded from Raaz after purchasing a meal from them - they are greedy I purchased a take out lunch from Raaz and expected to be able to eat on some of the metal tables outside. I was on Jersey City to meet some clients and could not easily go back to my office because it is in Manhattan. It was early lunch time 11:40 and I was the only client. Really, the restaurant was completely empty. I got my food and went outside. While I was sat on one of the metal tables outside I was approached by the same lady that sold me the meal and I was notified that I was not allowed to stay because I had a take out order so I needed to find somewhere else to seat and eat. I would understand to be asked to leave if I had not done business with them, but I had! I felt like a homeless being shooed! How do they treat a client like this? I usually dont write reviews, but Raaz should be punished and learn that they are in business because of us, their customers! They are so money driven that without tip you cannot seat at their tables. I m concerned about the quality of ingredients they use to save money... Ah, regarding the food. Even for the price I paid $9 I was disappointed. After being mistreated I at least would like to enjoy a good meal. It was 65% rice, the black lentil was tasteless, the chicken was good but was a very small portion. Again, money driven.

I happened to try this place the other day with one of my co workers. When it comes to Indian food there are not many options in this hood. We went during the lunch time and tried the lunch buffet. This place was a complete disappointment when it came to food. They did had the usual buffet fair on display, but food lacked flavour. I tried the Pakoras(deep fried veggies), Dal makhani(Lentils), Bhindi masala(Indian style okra), Aloo Mutter(Peas and potatoes) with rice and naan. To start with the Pakoras were way too salty, dal makhani had no flavour- it didnt even taste like the usual dal makhani. Bhindi masala just had way too much oil and no spices(way too bland) and the aloo mutter were sweet. So bascially all the veggie enterees sucked. Also noticed that they make thier naan and kept on the buffet table instead of making fresh when one sits down which resulted in naan being cold. The only thing i liked was the dessert(Kheer), apart from that this place was a complete let down. With tip I wasted my $16 bucks on this crappy food. Take my advice if craving Indian, go to the food court in the Newport mall. The Indian food out there is tasty and reasonably priced.

I always have a wonderful experience each and every time I go to Raaz. The food is delish and generously portioned. The service is very attentive, welcoming, helpful, & friendly. My favorite time to go is during happy hour anytime of week, where I enjoy great priced drinks and cocktails with friends. I will be returning to Raaz shortly and I recommend you go as well!! Correction from review below* Papdom only costs $4 & its complimentary with alcoholic beverages. Prices may also be higher for some items due to the area. Newport is expensive to live in and own a business. Go and experience Raaz!

Food: close to Authentic Indian. Please ask for mild spice and less oil if you cant stand excess oil in your food like me. Service: Excellent. Prompt. Refreshing for an indian restaurant. Music: Take a hike. The music and TV shows need a complete revamp. Absolutely no idea what the manager was thinking with that kind of music. Cleanliness: Excellent. Price: Little on the more expensive side of the bridge. Nothing to complain. Variery: Lots of items to choose from. The lunch buffet has many items to choose from. Overall - Good place to get Indian food in Jersey City.

We have mixed experience at this restaurant. Saturday buffets are pretty good. But twice we did home delivery and the food was awful. Once we ordered lamb biriyani and that was the worst biriyani ever. They had used some bad oil, I can tell. We just could not eat it. Also, it was mainly rice and no meat. The other time, we ordered a chicken preparation, which again had almost no chicken pieces. I think, if anyone wants to eat, they should go to the restaurant, dont do home delivery. They use bad ingredients.

I was staying nearby for business and noticed Raaz was only a short walk away. The booths are tucked away almost in their own little world, the menu is fantastic. A little Lamb Vindaloo Platter, some mango juice and some masala chai ice cream sure hit the spot. The lamb was cooked very nicely in the spicy stew, the rice was perfectly cooked and the platter came with some cheesy, spiced veggies and a small salad. Very good service and definitely no complaints about the food!

Good taste but ok ambience. We have been there few times and we loved tried different dishes. Most of them were really good. Once we asked for slightly hot dish and that came way too got for us. We barely ate it and told owner about it and he sent Gulam jamun on house as we were paying our bill, a real thoughtful of him. Ambience is not one of my favorite but definitely better than lots of other Indian restaurants I have been too.

Overall their food is great and service is fast and professional. I have been visiting the place for almost 2 years now and dont have anything to complain about.I love some of the dishes like Chilly chicken dry and appitizers. There are some entres that arent the best so you need to know what to order. This place also gets the benefit of being the only indian restaurant in a heavy asian/indian populated community.
