I come to this place somewhat often because it is convenient. And i actually like the food and the prices are great (two stars for that). HOWEVER. The service is crazy rude. I dont understand why the owner does not fire the server who was there each time i have come here. I did not actually have a personal argument with him, but everytime i have come here tables have walked out because they simply refused to eat at a place where they are treated so poorly. I have almost done the same in the past but i no longer take it personally. The server is allowed to literally rage at the clients for no reason. He is not only impatient but flat out angry sometimes almost throwing the food at the table. I felt each time like i am a burden by appearing here. One night it got to a point where the tables began looking at each other laughing as it was entertainingly ridiculous how bad the server treated everyone. Customers just walked away after placing orders on two different occasions i came here just in a few weeks time. I highly advise the owner to look at who he hires because i cant imagine the place surviving with this type of personell. Do go here if you want to see a show with your dinner, after someone dares to tell the server that he is rude, because he will sure rage out! i caught it twice..

No stars, sorry! I had lunch here & concur with a previous reviewer: it was awful. It is certainly a grungy place, too. The waiters greeted me with comments on my physical appearance. While they were positive, they were also creepy for one dining alone. Ive been to India as well as many Indian restaurants in NYC, and assure all readers that this is not common in Indian culture. Greetings aside, the food was terrible. It began with a tasty carrot fritter, and the tastiness ended there. The vegetable curry didnt taste of any sort of curry, but canned tomato sauce & vegetables. I was served half of a dried out pita, which the server called nan. Nan! I know the difference, and that wasnt nan/naan. The rice seemed to have been sitting on the plate for HOURS. Ive never been served such dried out rice anywhere; it was disgusting. FYI: There are at least 2 other Indian restaurants in the Village with Gandhi in the name; be sure to avoid the one on Bleecker Street. There is one on 6th Street that is decent.

Honestly speaking, if you have 2-3 hours in spare, please this place is for you. My food was served in about an hour and still it was the wrong order. But first, I asked for water and the waitress just insulted me in front of people!!!!!!!!! Terrible terrible terrible hospitality. People who came before me got water, people got their checks but one glass of water for my medicine was too hard for her. There are only two people serving and she didnt take my order right and I wanted to tell her that I want my herbs in a certain way because Im allergic with peanuts and cashew! It took an hour to get my order and it was the wrong order! Her style with other customer is sweet and with me (Im Brown) was so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorite spots to dine in NYC! Delicious Indian food in an intimate environment...and by intimate I mean its SMALL and cozy. Although they do accommodate parties of six, four or fewer is more ideal. The price is very decent, especially for a sit-down dinner that comes with a big plate of rice and is followed by a chai (although I wasnt that into it) and a rice pudding. Order a different dish per person, add on some Naan or papadum, and pass it all around the table. This weekend we had fantastically hot Chicken Vindaloo, the savory and oops tomato-y (good!) Ro Gon Gosht, and the creamy Kurma. Dont worry, it might look small when its served, but it will FILL YOU UP! YUM

I will be honest, the owner was very welcoming and polite. The food took quite a while, but maybe it was an overly busy night. But the food itself, wow. I dont know how you could call this authentic Indian cuisine. The tikka masala was like a dessert, it was simply tomato paste and sugar. My girlfriend had the lamb saag and it was basically the same, a mountain of sugar with some spice. I hate to write this review because the owner seems to be a very nice man, but there is no way he eats the food his restaurant serves. PLEASE keep it simple my friend, get some spices and use them, i know you can! Sugar is the last thing you need. Good luck

Happened to stumble upon this place when looking for the best and nearest Indian food to the Whitney Museum. I was shocked we were the only ones eating there (well it was 5pm) because the food was sensational! Each dish had a distinct flavor unlike a lot of Indian food where they throw the same spices into each dish. The staff gave us rice pudding and chai for free, for no reason, at the end of our meal. This place is authentic -- all Indian staff, no formalities, and delicious eats. GO HERE. Oh, and its affordable (for NYC).

Looking for some fine spicy indian food in the W.Village, look no further. Last night I had a dish I dont even know its name I just saw someone else having it and pointed to it can I have one of those, chicken, lamb or beef and 10 minutes later I had the most delitious spicy dish sizzling in a cast iron skillet. No fuzz just straight up, guy in front of me couldnt handle the spice and left half his dish on the table mumbling about going back to Minnesota it was a bit too hot for him. Going back soon !!

Great little place tucked away on Beaker Street. Waitstaff was awesome. We barely looked at the menu. The owner asked us what we wanted and he just delivered. We went for spicy curry lamb with vegetables. The flavor was spicy, but not overbearing with a slight chocolate and boysenberry flavor - maybe Im crazy! We finished the meal with complementary rice pudding and chai tea. One plus for complementary; two for great mild taste to end the meal.

I really love Indian food. But on vacation, I wanted to get a little adventurous and try everything. This restaurant was unassuming and excellent. Hands down the best Indian food Ive had in this city or any other. The assorted appetizers, specials, and curry items were amazing. The wait staff is quick and great for suggestions. They also dont rush you which is nice. Will return over and over.

Great food with a really spicy kick. The servers were incredibly attentive and friendly. The extras that come with ordering a tasty dish are plentiful. The chai tea, desert ice cream, and ultra thin bread w/ sauces were unexpected and incredibly amazing. The quaint space and train car feel of the room make me feel like Im in a dining car on the Darjeeling Limited. I love this place!
