I used to park right by here all the time when V&J was still open, and I never really noticed Plum House. So much so that when my father told me where to go to join my family for dinner, I had no clue where he was talking about. It looks almost like its closed from the outside; coming in, the place is oddly dark with a sushi bar in the back. Its the sort of place where if theres no staff by the entrance, go wait by the sushi bar to get seated. Although it took a bit for the waiter to come over and he wasnt overly attentive, he was serviceable. A little over half the tables were full so it wasnt that they were swamped. The food wasnt bad; it was just absolutely unremarkable. Miso soup was average. The gyoza we got for an appetizer werent crisp enough and just okay tasting. I got the salmon teriyaki which was okay. The teriyaki wasnt that flavorful, and the fish didnt really stand out otherwise; it was a pretty bland dish. The vegetables on the side were decent though. Nobody else at the table was thrilled with their dishes either, but similarly no one hated the food. I dont think Plum House is a bad restaurant, but it isnt really worth the trip or the money. Perhaps the sushi is better? I probably wont be back to find out; head to Magoya instead.

The Plum House in Monroe, NY, is not just a sushi restaurant, but a second home to me. I have not only become accustomed to being served some of the freshest sushi and sashimi around the greater Hudson Valley, but treated with utmost kindness and hospitality by its staff. As two anonymous Google users write, "I have dragged every co-worker & friend I have to their tables for over the past 12 years," and another Googler user adds "been coming here for 12 years," there is reason for the repeat business. From impromptu Korean lessons from sushi chef Mr. Kim and Young, the Plum Houses owner, you not only come away with a full belly of delicious sushi, but an education from a far away culture, who are now friends right in your backyard Some standouts of Plum House - the red snapper sashimi has an almost butter like texture, with an added watery explosive bite; the "Mr. Kim special" - tiny bite-sized floral creations featuring avocado, white tuna and seaweed that are almost too beautiful to eat, with lovingly made hot sauce in design; ask for Kimchii to add to your spicy salmon roll, and you will be treated to the best combo of Japanese/Korean fusion ever.

I "discovered" Plum House soon after they first opened and have been so happy with the quality, friendliness and attentive service they provide that I have dragged every co-worker & friend I have to their tables for over the past 12 years. Their sushi & sashimi are are at the top of the game, with some clever roll creations my wife & I absolutely dig (like the Monroe Roll). Cooked dishes like the Bulgoki excel also. My crew and I have very often shut down the place and they have always graciously spoiled us. If youre looking for intimate Japanese dining, Plum House never fails to please.

I broke a cardinal rule ... Dont order the Sashimi deluxe when trying out a new place. My impression was the food was ok.. The Sashimi simply didnt taste all that fresh and the cut was rough. My Girlfriend liked her non sushi plate as well as her friend but the real stuff was not all that good. Perhaps an off day? I dont know but I wont be back for sushi.

Excellent fresh sushi in a quaint & quiet atmosphere! I took my cousin in February for his birthday & my girlfriend from the NJ shore this past Friday evening. All were very happy during both visits!

I have been going to the plum house about once a month for the last 8 years. That in and of itself is a glowing review. Its a small place, and it gets a bit cramped on Saturday nights

We have found this to be a consistent winner. Reasonable cost high quality. They butcher whole fish for the sushi. You must try it. My wife and I go twice a week
