I’m happy to be able to provide the first review for Lockport’s new ‘Steak n Stone.’ We were anxious to try the fare here, especially since Lockport, with its fast-food gauntlet along Transit Rd., has little to offer in the way of trendier eateries. The décor inside had elements that one might expect – a full bar running down one side with booths and tables along the other. Classy high backed booths and chairs were unfortunately paired next to a row of extremely fake looking bamboo with leaf shoots that were obviously glued on. Tacky and trying much too hard. Other furnishings were obtusely clashing, like the strange paintings of an idyllic log cabin in the woods that one might expect to find at a Bob Evans. The hostess and waitress were thoroughly friendly, and although it took a little longer than normal to get waited on, we understood that their grand opening evening would have some kinks. We also had to excuse three things that we asked for that never came -- a spoon, extra spicy sauce and some hot sauce for the soup. The restaurant was full however, which was good to see. My tuna sashimi roll was excellent, as was the tempura and shrimp rolls. A side salad had the traditional ginger dressing and was nice. The shrimp oodong also carried a nice flavor in the broth and the hearty noodles went down easy. My main dish was a “combo” option of Strip steak and salmon, offered as a “pick two” along with chicken and shrimp potentials. On the menu, the choices were offered under the heading of Tempura / Teriyaki. When I informed the girl that I would like the salmon tempura-style and the steak teriyaki, I was informed that it was “not possible.” When I politely pressed as to why, she told us that the “computer” cannot ring it in that way. Disappointing. The dish was not well prepared. I asked for the steak medium; it was presented medium-well and much closer to well, with only the hint of pink in one or two of the center slices. The salmon, which appeared to be two thin tail cuts as preferred to a single, thick cut from the center, was dry. Neither was seasoned with anything other than the overly-sweet teriyaki. As we were finishing our meal, the “live band” came in and set up. Advertised as such, it was hardly a band, and certainly not “live.” A couple boys came in with a mixing table, a pair of overhead, colored lights and a computer and started playing house techno as if they were in Rumours nightclub at Clifton Hill. Completely out of place and distracting. All told, we will be back, because the sashimi was very good and well prepared and plated. However, our return will be motivated more because of the lack of modish sit-down restaurants that are not frequented by primarily an older generation (i.e. Garlocks, Fieldstone, Shamus, etc.), not because we were blown away.

THE OWNER AND CHEF WAS VERY RUDE! WE ORDERED A CHICKEN ENTREE AND WHAT WAS SERVED WAS 2 HALF COOKED PIECES OF CHICKEN WITH NO SEASONING NO NOTHING AND A SCOOP OF POTATOES. AFTER COOKING THE CHICKEN THE REST OF THE WAY ON THE STONE THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR TO THE PLAIN AND BLAH CHICKEN. AS A FIRST VISIT HERE WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED. WE ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER AND WE SHOULD HIM A PIECES OF CHICKEN AND HE SAID DONT YOU KNOW HOW TO COOK CHICKEN? WE ASKED IF HE WOULD EAT A PIECE WITH NO FLAVOR AND NO SEASONING AND HE SAID NO. THEN WE ASKED WHY HE WOULD SERVE IT THAT WAY AND HE SAID THAT HE EATS IT THAT WAY ALL THE TIME AND ALL THE CUSTOMERS LOVE IT. WE EXPLAINED THAT NORMALLY PEOPLE GO OUT TO DINNER AT A PLACE LIKE THAT FOR A CULINARY EXPERIENCE. HE SAID THE DISH WAS GOOD AND WE JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO COOK CHICKEN. HE TOLD US WHAT WE SHOULD ORDER NEXT TIME AND WE TOLD HIM THERE WOULD NOT BE A NEXT TIME. HE REPEATED WHAT WE SHOULD DO NEXT TIME AND THEN WALKED AWAY WHILE WE WERE TALKING. I WAS SHOCKED THAT AN OWNER THAT IS A CHEF WOULD BE HAPPY TO SERVE SOMETHING LIKE THAT THEN ARGUE WHEN A CUSTOMER WAS NOT HAPPY WITH IT. THEN TO BE RUDE TO A CUSTOMER AND TELL THEN THEY ARE WRONG AND THEN WALK AWAY. The servers were very nice and tried to explain his moods. I dont know about his mood but my mood is such that I will not recommend that anyone order the chicken. And God forbid you have a problem and need to talk to that owner...

It was a couple months since we were here. It was NOT a busy night and We made 6 people at the bar, plus 2 or 4 people at 4 tables. We ordered a 5 items to take home, as we had friends waiting. We sat at Turner and ordered and had a drink while waiting. There was a list of summer special drinks we were interested in trying, but when the bartender couldnt tell us what was even in them, so we ordered a glass of wine. We waited almost 45 minutes for just 5 items. They put the items that should be cold on top of the HOT dishes, so our rolls were very warm after our 5 minute drive. I asked the server if the crab was real or fake on the crab roll (the menu didnt say) I was assured it was, BUT...it was FAKE. We usually take all our our of town guests here because it quickly became our favorite. Now, not sure if we will even be back...not just because of these issues, but because I was told they did nothing wrong when I spoke to the oener!

New experience. Came for the stone. Its a bit of work, as youre actually cooking your food as you eat it. Upside is, your food doesnt get cold.... but.... the stone gets a bit too cool after a half hour or so, to work. So, dont take too long. Seafood is fresh. Steaks are ok. Veggies might taste weird to you. .. they do to me. Funny aftertaste. Dont expect top shelf service. Its ok, i guess. I had to ask for lemon wedges twice, and ended up just having to go to the bar, and get them myself. I bit pricey for the quantity of food... but, not the worst place Ive been.

Awesome! A diamond in the rough. My husband and I loved it. Food was excellent, and the prices are very reasonable for fresh fish. We strongly recommend this restaurant. Truely a unique concept by cooking your food on a 900 degree stone plate they give you while at your table. You cook your own food the way you like it. The owners are on site to ensure your experience is nothing but the best!

After several tries, gave up. Somehow, even when there are more servers than customers, it can take 10-15 minutes for a server to make the first visit to your table. Ive tried three visits and had the same experience, even when the restaurant is almost empty. Food is OK, but go when you have lots of time to waste.

I go here all the time, its casual enough to enjoy and be relaxed, or you can dress up and still not feel out of place. The food is fantastic! Ive taken people whove said they did not like sushi, and ended up loving it from here! Service is always excellent!. Cant say enough good about the place.
