At the northern tip of Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint there is building which adorns an all black facade. Inside is what I learned is a fantastic bar and musical venue. Filled with that 80s metal satanic overtone (not to be mistaken with that overly cheesy one of recent times, and not trying too hard like a Nordic death and/or black metal bands), you will find some excellent bartenders, working a beyond fully stocked bar. I fell in love with this place the moment I realized they had a King Diamond poster from God knows when and Mercyful Fate was the band being projected on the wall (yes, they even show footage from live concerts of yesteryear as you sit at the bar drinking). They play the best in punk and metal music over their sound system and book some of the best live acts that can fit in there (and some of the bigger ones who do some hush-hush shows there from time to time). When I asked a bartender why there was a photo of the Misfits with some guys in their late teens/early 20s behind the bar, he informed me the owner is massive fans of the band. Knowing this, I need to drop this info on the guys so their post-Misfits bands can perhaps perform here, because, I mean. Why the heck not? Oh, and did I mention there is food here too? Both carnivore and herbivore friendly. All in all, pretty safe to say this is going to become my new favorite NYC-centric club to see bands at.

Quite the hidden gem! Hidden in the outskirts of Brooklyn, with not much of a store front, Saint Vitus is a place that remains undiscovered for most. So go discover it! I am not into metal, but this metal bar was a great time. Its a big place, full of hipsters, and bartenders with long metalhead beards who seem like swell guys. We came for live band karaoke with Infinity Spaceship. Not only was this the best karaoke experience Ive ever had, it was probably also the best concert experience Ive ever had. This was basically a free, full-fledged rock concert with vocals provided by random Brooklyners. And I got to take part! Yay! They had some sort of bun/bao food offering, but I didnt get to try that. I will have to come back!

a troo metal bar, NOT one of those rock bars that hang up some dollar-store skulls and play 90s-era metallica once in a while. the layout is GREAT -- its conducive to forming little groups in which to converse, but also to inserting yourself into those groups to say hi (theres space to walk by, without being too close to be invasive or too far to be distant/nonexistent, or something?) drink prices are a little higher than other metal bars (what costs me $7 at Lucky 13 costs me $9 here,) and the servers seem a little disinterested (I like a smile, yanno?), but they have some pretty good shows.

Saint Vitus is a great place for metalheads and fans of metal from good old heavy metal to extreme metal to see a wide variety of bands. It is NOT a typical bar or concert venue, so if loud music and blasphemous decor arent your thing, its not the place for you. Theres no sign out front, so if you are the target customer base, come on in through the unassuming black door. If its locked, try the other black door.

An unabashed mecca for metal. Dark dive bar with a surprising draft selection and great "buns" which are small hot sandwiches made fresh on site. Intimate live room, loud as hell PA. Unless youre a diehard fan of extreme music steer clear, otherwise the best city venue for the loud and heavy with some surprisingly larger touring acts rocking out on the regular. Hail!

By far the best metal venue anywhere in the NYC metropolitan area, at least for underground bands. conveniently located on a quiet block in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the bar offers affordable drinks and they always manage to book the best bands that have ever come through here. I go here frequently and the experience is always spectacular.

One of the best bars/venues in NYC. Besides the vast amount of shows that are now held here the aesthetic has remained gorgeous since opening. As a grown lady going to metal shows you will feel totally safe here, the gents running this place will make sure of it! I will miss living so close.

love coming here! the sound setup makes even the shittiest metal band sound like somebody. fun venue. bartenders are a little standoffish. need some women back there. but the drinks are manly, and a lot of great bands come through here. if youre a lover of the underground metal scene, visit

Fantastic, laid back metal venue. The beers are reasonably priced, and the creatively named drinks help the vibe. The $10-15 tickets for their shows are perfectly priced for this venue. I love that it doesnt get too crowded but still maintains a degree of vibrance.

Saw Dragonforce here live. Such a dope show in a loud ass venue. Best place to go if you wanna get up close and personal with the band playing. Got right up on the stage and nearly we t deaf in the process. Totally worth it. Raddest show ever!

If you like heavy metal, this is the best place in the city for it. The nondescript black door outside heralds the deafening music inside. Add polite bartenders, and excellent shot/beer specials and youre in for a rock solid night.

This is a great Metal venue that occasionally has other shows. The interior is dark with a black on black paint scheme but that fits the theme. The staff is always helpful and they have some great drink specials.

I dont drink, but Ive attended a few shows here, and on top of being an awesome space for mid level bands, they have hands down the coolest atmosphere Ive ever seen in a venue.

Greenpoints metal bar. This place really gets it. Cheap alcohol, metal bands, decent sized show space, and competent sound people. Ill go see a show here anytime.

Brooklyns best hipsters enjoy NYs best music venue. This place is actually great. Street parking isnt too hard to find either if you are driving in.

I love this venue. Every time JUDGE plays that room magical things happen. Low stage, no barricades or bouncers. Probably my favorite room in NYC.

If you’re not into metal, punk or hardcore rock, then you should definitely go somewhere else. Come for happy hour and their steamed pork buns!

Great room to see bands. Awesome sound and good sight lines. Also good if you want to just sit at the bar, stage is relatively separate.

My boyfriends band played here a few months ago. Great atmosphere. Hospitable too. Cool place...well be back when we are in town.

Good venue for metal. The place is smaller than the size bands that play here would make it seem, so the shows are very intimate.
