I ordered the beef hourensou which is beef spinach and garlic. my sister ordered the kobe beef, and we split a tempura appetizer. Over all, Id say the food was very good. Its not terribly authentic but it was delicious. Im 99% sure the miso soup was out of a package. But honestly, its still pretty good. My complaint is the service. It was really difficult to get the attention of a waitress just to ask for a dessert menu or for more water. Also, it was weird that they were a bunch of chinese people walking around in kimono. Your typical American cant tell the difference but for me it was very weird that they had traditional shoes and kimono and even a nice looking tatami room but then the rest of the presentation was just weird because it was so not Japanese. I wish I could explain better what I mean but realistically its not something that I think most people would even notice let alone be bothered by. The other downfall of this place is its prices. Dinner was almost 100 dollars for just 2 people. I would eat there again but I would never take a girl there on a date nor a Japanese friend or anyone to whom I wanted to show what Japanese restaurants are actually like. If you dont care about that and you have the money, I think youll really enjoy the food.

Magnificent! Nikko is one of the few restaurants I will say I love. They blow away every sushi restaurant Ive ever been to. For starters, Nikkos sashimi is consistently fresh and cold. "Cold" makes all the difference in the world when it comes to sashimi and most sushi places either dont understand that or dont care. Next, they have the most amazing Kumamoto oysters - served on a bed of ice - they really get it (you must call ahead to reserve these or they will be sold out). They also have the best uni hands-down. Nikko has every right to have an attitude and they dont. Theyre almost always super busy (a good sign) and yet the staff remains professional and focused on customer satisfaction. You cant go wrong. If Nikko was located in Manhattan, you couldnt get in. Aikuo and Sushi Lounge in Morristown are jokes compared to Nikko. If you want cooked Asian fusion, then yeah sure, go to Aikou, but if youre seeking heavenly raw Japanese specialties... I think I made my point.

My first experience at Nikko was great but my second experience last night made me wonder if they had changed management. The food wasnt as great as it was before and we noticed the portions of the sashimi dinner ($24) was considerable smaller and sliced thinner than before. With the exception of the Volcano roll, everything food item appeared smaller and in less quantity. I noticed something was odd when we ordered the beef negimaki appetizer and saw that they were small button sized bites, smaller than what I remember and am accustomed to in a Sushi restaurant. After spending $60 for two people (with no alcohol, one volcano roll, one sashimi dinner, one appetizer, one side salad, green tea, and one dessert) we left Nikkos hungry. I wasnt satisfied one bit. I understand that times are tough now and some restaurants are playing the "portion control" game to cut costs but this comes with consequences, youve lost me as a customer.

Very neat looking place. All the servers were dressed in traditional Japanese attire and there was even a seating area that mirrored that of a traditional Japanese dining area. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed the sushi. It was very fresh and well prepared. My only problem with this restaurant is the amount of time it took to prepare everyones food. Granted I can understand it may take longer to prepare sushi for a group of seven but, not over an hour longer. There was a table of two that left while we were there because it was taking so long. This is a good place to go if you want good sushi but, not if you have somewhere to be in the next two and a half hours.

My husband and I love this place! We have been coming here approximately once a week for the past year since we moved to the area and have never been disappointed with the food - the staff know us well now and even gave us a bottle of saki as a gift around the holidays. Everything we have had here has been excellent. We usually get sushi and not once have I had fish that was bad quality, it has always been tender and flavorful. We also get hot food occasionally as well, and have enjoyed their teriyaki, tempura and udon. They even have my favorite ginger salad dressing of any Japanese place I have tried. Definitely will keep coming back.

Went there for lunch again and the quality is always top notch for all the foods, but especially for sushi/sashimi. Toro and uni are simply the very best, and I hear they dont even serve them if the shipment comes in and the quality of the items are subpar. Make sure you check out the specials menu, too. I recommend the live scallop, botan shrimp (with fried shrimp heads), raw oysters when theyre available. While some may complain about the price, I think its quite fair for the quality. Ive been to restaurants where the prices are lower, but I leave making comparisons of how Nikkos is way better.

While I usually put in a price, my consumption at Nikko is not for the faint of heart so rather than mislead, Ill leave it off this time. That said, Nikko is not the cheapest Japanese restaurant but in my opinion, it is the best in NJ and even rivals NYCs best. To be fair, I rarely if ever get cooked food here so to the reviewers who have commented on such, I have no reply or input. But for Sushi and Sashimi, exquisite! Been going to Nikko for over 15 years and again last night. It could not have been any better. Love Nikko!

My husband and I (who live in upstate NY) frequently travel through the Whippany area, and have been dining at Nikko for many years. We sometimes even plan our trips to make a stay locally, so we can eat there, instead of traveling further down the road. They are wonderful! The décor is pleasantly minimalist, and the service and food are always excellent. They are always welcoming, even when they are quite busy (reservations are a good idea on weekends).

Great Sushi and Sashimi in East Hanover. We started with the chefs complimentary appetizer with Toro & Seaweed. We ordered a 25 piece Sashimi platter next. The fish was amongst the freshest we have had in the area. The Dragon roll and the Spicy rolls that followed were well crafted and tasty. The cold saki with the picture of the red flower (dont recall the name) paired well with the Sushi and Sashimi. Will be back.

I have been to this restaurant couple times. Food is always fresh, and compare to many other Japanese restaurants I have been to, they have many more dishes and selections that I like. Staff is always friendly. Restaurant is very clean and nice decor. And its right on Rt. 10, has plenty parking, very easy to get to. I like it. Will keep going back.

Nikko is a wonderful comfortable place for great food. The specials on the whiteboard are a special treat. The vast menu and recommendations do the staff will ensure everyone in your dining party finds what they are looking for. Selections of cold sake are a nice change from traditional warm sake. recommended highly.
