Let me start out by saying this. I worked in the restaurant business (as everything from a bus boy and food runner to waiter) for around 7-8 years at normally owned home-town restaurants to country clubs. I know a thing or two about the business which is why generally I will give the benefit of the doubt to someone at a restaurant ( the waiter is slammed and cant get to your table-I get it.) In other words I would always find a way to kind of stick up for the restaurant employees even if I didnt know them. After this experience, which happened almost two weeks ago, it kept haunting me and popping into my head. Needless to say, this is why this review is here. I needed to get the word out, and once again I am not trying to ruin anyone, but the encounter we had was totally not necessary. I went with my girlfriend on vacation to see what it was like. Lets just say we had a rude encounter with the owner. We both ordered different eggs sandwiches. The owner came up to us while waiting for our food and said hello. She then went on to say what kind of homemade foods they have and that she had to meet the table that ordered food that you can get from McDonalds. Fortunately, it was early and I really wasnt thinking all too quick and she had a chance to walk away before I realized what a rude comment it was, otherwise I probably would have said something. The egg sandwiches werent bad, but the comment by the owner told us that she didnt want us there unless were ordering the homemade foods. My question is if you dont want us eating food that is "from McDonalds" then WHY IS IT ON YOUR MENU? Do you say that to every customer that orders egg sandwiches? Or is it because me and my girlfriend are in our early 30s and look young?? Sad thing is she lost us as customers, and my parents were going to go at some point, but after hearing our story, they wont be going.

I have been here twice now and the atmosphere is adorable- extremely tight space but cute. I had lunch here close to a year ago and the food was delicious. However, this morning I was not happy with our breakfast experience. We waited an unusually long time for 2 orders of french toast while larger parties sitting around us were seated and receiving food prior to us. It took over 25 minutes for the french toast orders (one was strawberry filled and the morning special). Both orders had cold toast and room-temp fruit. The special had a gross strawberry flavored paste as filling, much different than "strawberry stuffed french toast" as advertised. Our waitress waited on us the least compared to other friendly and attentive waitresses. She took our order and brought the check. Not sure we will be going back after today, lots of other breakfast places on the island.

Loved the Sandbox Cafes original location (since way back when they first opened!) and I am doubly happy to see them now on the north side of the causeway. Fun little location. (The inside has much more personality than the plain exterior lets on.) Staff is great, owner sets a nice tone for the place, food is delicious - creative and fresh without being fussy or overpriced. Cash only so be prepared (atm outside but it has a $3 fee).

The food is great, but we drove 45 minutes to come for breakfast in October and it was closed . It would have been helpful to know they dont were closed on Tuesday and Wednesday via the internet. As per the Internet they are open everyday 8-2:30pm 7 days a week.

Great food and reasonably priced for an Island joint. The staff was super friendly and the owner herself cooks the food and will come out to talk/bond with the customers sometimes. Id give it a 6/5 stars if I could.

Fantastic restaurant, best breakfast on the island. Amazing homemade pancakes, fresh fruit ingredients, friendly service, and no worries about the rain at the new location!
