I am, and have been, a regular here since the dinner was completely rebuilt last year. some of the reviews posted are somewhat accurate, the HVAC system was horribly designed and it took several months and rebuilds of the system to get it right, which it is now. the air quality and temperature is far more consistent than is was in the past and the owners are consistently improving and adjusting it to be optimum. the comments about poor food quality are very inaccurate. In the months that I have been eating there, I have had only tow dishes that I didnt care for or came out wrong. Unlike most dinners the management wants to know if something isnt to your liking. As far as pricing goes, if you want a couple of eggs, a side of bacon good, fast, cheap and easy try "Bag ful o Bagels. but if you want a great breakfast, a pot of coffee at the table and no bums rush; this is the place. Prices in my evaluation are extremely fair and while a little higher than typical Sussex county fair, all the food is made in the kitchen, no frozen preseasons patties tossed on the grill here. everything is made to order. My favorite Meal is an Item they call the Mop which is pulled Barbeque with cheddar over sweetpotato fries, I get at least two meals out of it Over all if you are used to the quality and service of Bergan and Passaic county dinner / restaurants this place is for you!

I went with my son who is a former Marine and served two tours of duty in Iraq so he is used to terrible conditions. He is the one who wanted to go since he has not been there is almost 10 years. We stepped into the foyer and it smelled like an outhouse at a state park. I asked him if he really wanted to go inside to eat. He said lets give it a shot. What a mistake. What I do my son. I knew that we should not be there. It smelled just as bad inside. The ceilings were falling down. The lights did not have covers. There was a stack of mail and other business papers lying all across one part of the counter. I do not know how the health department has not shut this health hazard down. My son ate in all sorts of conditions in Iraq out in the field. He also ate in Iraqis homes and he said he was never in such horrible conditions considering this is in the US and in a nice town. He would never return. He had diarrhea for 4 days. Shame on the Sussex County Health Department for not closing this disaster down.

11/06/13 I ordered breakfast, three eggs over easy with sausage. The waitress brought my order and told me be careful as the plate was hot. Indeed it was. However, other than the eggs the home fries and sausage were luke warm at best. The home fries looked and tasted like they had been sitting under heat for a long time. The frying oil, or what ever, had completly saturated the food leaving a non-descript taste. The sausage links had obviously been deep fried and also kept under heat for awhile. Deep frying sausage links toughens the outer covering and dries out the meat. Not very pleasing to say the least. I informed the waitress of my findings and did not notice her forwarding my comments to management. Diners are usually noted for their breakfasts which are usually well prepared and fairly priced. $.11.90 cents incuding tip is certainly too much. I will not return.

If I could give them zero stars I would. My fiancé and I walked in and I said, "Hi, hows it going?" There were several waiters and waitresses waiting around the bar/ entrance area and everyone sort of looked away and didnt make any eye contact with us. No one answered but a waitress grabbed two menus and motioned us to follow. She seated us in a booth way back and away from everyone where there were high chairs stacked. She told us some one would be right with us. We waited about 5 minutes... no one, but two other couples were seated and immediately helped and given drinks. We even watched them get their food. The girl who seated us brought a high chair over to stack and didnt ask us if we were ready. Nothing. We waited 15 minutes before walking out and no one said anything to us. Absolutely terrible. I will warn others of the awful experience.

I wouldnt even give this diner a 1 star rating. From the moment I got out of my car I noticed the place was full of weeds and cobwebs around the building. The windows were so dirty I could barely see through them. I didnt want to go in but my husband wanted to. We sat down and ordered our breakfast I then started to look around at how filthy and I mean filthy this diner was. The waitress was very nice and had to get ice from a cooler that you would take on a picnic! The floor, furniture, walls, falling down ceilings and windows had a crust of dirt that was there for years. I couldnt imagine what the kitchen looked like!! There is no excuse to be so dirty that a bucket of warm soapy water couldnt help. I will never, ever go back there again and Im also considering calling the board of health. If he is really the Mayor of Sparta, shame on him!!

We ordered at 4:30 PM At 5:30, 5:45, and 6:00 I called to see WHERE our food is, as a result of it being long past expected delivery and we only live about 4 minutes from the diner. They said each time it is out for delivery - itll be there in a few minutes! Despite having a confirmation email from grubhub, when I called the FOURTH time, they told me that it wasnt even PLACED, and that we didnt have an order. The manager sounded entirely unsympathetic, and offered no sympathy, apology, or even interest to.the facf that I have hungry children here who have not eaten. We re-ordered, and *hopefully* the food will be here soon. I havent eaten all day, and despite being fond of the typical quality of the diners fare, the service and general experience displayed here has utterly dissuaded from even bothering with them again.

I agree with most of the post here including the waitress was way out of place. What got me the most was sitting 8 feet from where me and my 5 year old daughter were eating was a gentleman talking on the phone with either business or one of his buddies and every other word that came out of his mouth was a swear. I picked my daughter up and went to pay the bill. I proceeded to tell the man at check out about it and all he did was shrug his shoulders and say he was sorry. I asked the waitress who the man was and low and behold..........ready............She told me that his name was Scott Seelagy and he was the Mayor of Sparta! This is the face of Sparta? And to top it off the food portions were way to small even by diner standards. Was a rip off and atmosphere was lousy. I for one will NEVER go back again.

Very good location, basically in the center of town so a very short drive from my house. Although, most o f the time driving isnt even necessary considering that they deliver, for free. No other establishment in town whether it be a pizza place or whatever delivers for free, not to mention this may be the only diner i the county that delivers. The main reason i love this place is that every time i have order something while either eating in the diner or ordering to my house it as been exceptional. The food is always how i ordered it, comes hot and smelling great plus tastes just as good as any other diner I have been to. If not better. I will continue to order and go to this diner simply because they have great services and the food is exceptional.
