Being from San Antonio and loving both Tex-Mex and California style Mexican, my wife and I patiently waited with excitement for La Escondita II to open its doors. Now we cant wait for them to close. Heres why: We entered only a few days after their "grand opening" and asked to look at a menu. Although the restaurant was recently opened, the staff seemed uninterested and went about their duties like we were not there. There were no other customers in the restaurant, but we decided to give it a try. We thought it peculiar that the table clothes were under a cheap plastic cover and that there were big black and white table numbers pasted underneath the plastic. My wife and I both spent years in restaurants and knowing the table numbers of your restaurant and sections is Restaurant Service 101. When the waitress finally showed up, she seemed disinterested and didnt know much about the food. My wife and I asked if they had iced tea and she said "yes", but when she eventually returned to the table she brought two cans of Arizona tea to the table. When again asked if they had "brewed iced tea" and she said yes, left the table and then returned with what appeared to be brewed iced tea (we later found out she had dumped the canned iced tea into our glasses). Overall the service was exceptionally slow and poor, however the food was edible. Not good by any means, but we told ourselves "at least we tried it"--that was until our bill arrived. I ordered a $6.99 lunch plate and my wifes plate was $9.99. When our bill arrived it was almost $35! After checking we saw we were charged over $8 for iced tea and over $6 for salsa, which is almost always included. When I went to speak with the manager I explained we asked for brewed iced tea, but were charged for 4 cans of Arizona. She said they didnt have brewed iced tea. I explained that I was caught offguard with the $35 plus bill, pointing to the $6 charge for salsa, and that nobody mentioned anything about the additional charges. I also said this would probably be the reason why we would not come back. She simply said, "OK", in a very "I could care less" tone and that "tomatoes are expensive." The waitress stood over our table while we paid our tab and tipped. This is one of the worst restaurants we have visited, not simply because of the mediocre food, but it is one of the only times we felt like we had been "held up" in a restaurant. The total lack of concern for their customers and exceptionally poor service should have this restaurant in a negative cash flow for some time before their doors finally close. At least thats our hope. Now we drive by patiently waiting for the "restaurant for sale" sign to go up.

I ordered the pollo fajitas sorry no pic. It came on a skillet still sizzling with onions, green and red peppers. Then there was another plate with rice, frijoles, guacamole, and some other stuff. Also 5 tortillas to wrap em in all for $15. It was tasty and satisfying. My only complaint was the waitress forgot my water then forgot my doggy bag. Ate the leftovers for dinner a few hours later. Nice place, good food.

Bones in my chicken chimichanga cut up my mouth. It took 45 minutes to receive it as well. Service was terrible and slow, received my only refill of water the same time my check came.

I went here with my family for my birthday dinner. The chips and salsa they give you are stellar and the cactus fajitas were some of the best fajitas Ive ever eaten.

I think that this place is good in terms of food, the service is fine, and there is a large selection on the menu. However I found it too expensive for lunch.

Very good authentic Mexican food. Casual & modest prices. This is not a Taco Bell type restaurant and is Gringo friendly.
