I had this place bookmarked for a while and went with the fam and was ready to take on my second Indian food venture lol I was a little skeptical by the outside appearance which looked a little rough to say the least but don t let that sway because when you enter the ambiance and decor is PHENOMENAL !!! As far as the food goes WOW: The menu had a nice variety with plenty of options. And diverse for vegetarians and vegans etc.. which is the case with most Indian places I have been told. Everything we had to eat wad FLAWLESS.. We started with the garlic Naan and plain Naan for appetizers and WOW the softness and taste was The portions were plentiful and very good cost vs portion quality ratio! Their Chicken Tikka Masala was just amazing. A thick well seasoned tomato sauce seasoned with onions and peppers prepped and baked in a large clay oven and you could taste pureness.I had that with plain Basmati rice (Not Pictured for the whole table) The rice was so light with full of flavor mixed with green peas. This dish was just heaven the taste was REALLY REALLY good in an addictive way seriously. The "Khate Masale Murgh" Tender chicken breast cooked with lemon puree, turmeric and onion was also REALLLLLLLLLLLLLL GOOD the Tenderness of the chicken bursting with flavor The turmeric and lemon gave it a that perfect blend of mouth watering flavor. MUST ORDER PERIOD !!! my daughter also got the got the spinach rice as a side (My daughter will try different stuff LOVE HER LOL !!) It was different to say the least but very good surprisingly for me, My son and mother ordered Kabobs which they said was very good as well. Big SHOUT OT TO THE STAFF FOR THE PATIENCE AND PROFESSIONALISM. We had many questions and they answered them every time. The service here was very attentive, and the waitstaff so friendly. Just a flat out overall amazing experince amazing experience. Other reasons to visit/try this lovely beautiful place in my opinion: 1. Large private parking in a mall strip so no issues their 2. the prices are so cheap for all the food you get - rare for an Indian place 3. Portions are generous vs cost and quality ratio are great. 4. They deliver Overall here are my the score/mini breakdowns recap lol: Food: 6/5 Everything perfect !!! Service: 5/5 Patience and professional from the entire staff and that was much appreciated and refreshing Atmosphere: 4/5 Dont let the outside deter you from missing out on a great experience Price: 5/5 Reasonable prices for the quality of food you receive and portions. Overall this experience was perfect in every aspect for my personal experience. They made my family feel welcomed and the food and ambiance/decor was very nice. This is also a great place for a special occasion or date/anniversay etc.. Its pretty sexy inside lol

Worst experience ever....awful service and even worse food. We first ordered martinis...they tasted like cough syrup. We ordered bubbly by the bottle, they said they ran out of it and offered us a different bottle which we couldnt even try. The bottle was cheap sparkling wine that you need to drown in OJ to avoid the actual taste. We googled the bottle to read ratings...it was a 5.99 bottle(granted yes we know its retail but ok up charge me3 times of you want) but they charged us 45!!! We were planning on staying for dinner but with that happening and ordering two appys that looked and tasted even worse, we wanted out. The bill comes and we see the45 charge for the bottle that isnt even on the menu. We showed the manager the retail price and explained that the least they couldve done is tell us what the price is but instead he trys to defend their actions and Absolutely no apologies. So he takes the bill and added another $30 for the bottle and still left the $45 charge. Trying to explain he double charged us was another nightmare on its own. We left and said this will be our last time. DO NOT WASTE YOU TIME AND MONEY HERE!!

Mantra JC is almost the perfect modern Indian restaurant. We had our childs 1st birthday anniversary last month at the Mantra (Jersey City). Needless to say, my wife and I looked hard and far before settling in for this particular restaurant in the heart of the Paulus Hook/ Newport neighborhood of Jersey City- and we could not have made a better choice ! Reason? Other than the excellent food, well balanced pricing, stylish decor - its the staff there! They are the heart and soul of this place, though most of the credit goes to the soft spoken but very efficient manager Rex Soares. My wife and I had 3 pre-event consultations, including one for food tasting. We were explained every single detail in advance and even suggested ways of cutting costs. They even got the balloons and decorated the place on the evening of our party because we couldnt come by in time. The actual party was equally well taken care of. You would never regret a dinner here, and would most certainly be very happy to host your special party at Mantra JC. Their customer service is 7-star yet personal.

This restaurant is not for average Joe trying to just eat something to fill the stomach. This is a premium restaurant. To start with, they have created a beautiful ambiance with a nicely set up bar that is in the restaurant, but cleverly detached. Menu and preparations are revolutionary. There are very few chefs who risk to experiment with Indian food. Mantra has done that and done very well. Though there is a very limited selection of vegetarian specialties as compared to other restaurants, but if done well - less is more. Waiter and staff were okay, can do better. May be they present their best self to Caucasian customers only, but being more interested in food itself - I can live with that. I call Mantra as futuristic Indian cuisine and an Avenue where you can find how Indian cuisine is presented at the scale of fine dining. Mantra - Please keep experimenting and continue to surprise us with more creative , beautiful and delicious Indian food.

Last night we were a party of 6. As we entered at 9pm all staff seemed unhappy and kept reminding us that the kitchen will close by 9:45. I am ( was now ) a regular customer and the staff made sure that I was felt unwelcome and somehow made me feel guilty for walking in at that time. Then gave us a round table when they had 14 tables empty. After requesting the manager several times that we want two tables to be joined he refused to do so saying he cant join two 4 seater tables for 6 people. The whole time we had problems putting all food on that table and with two kids who kept dropping cutlery on floor and water on the table and plates because of lack of space. Asked the guy for the owners number who said yes but never gave it to me. I hope the owners wake up and realize that the staff is treating their customers this way.Very disappointing experience and am never going back again. Date of visit: 5/23/2017 Time: 9 pm

Mantra serves the worst Indian food I have ever had in last 3 year of US stay. I dont know how this restaurant is surviving with such a pathetic service and food. Im 100 percent sure that not only Indians but Americans would agree with my opinion, if you get into this hopeless and fake restaurant once. This restaurant is expensive compared to some other good Indian restaurant in nearby area. When I complained to person, who was serving me, that food is not cooked properly. The person replied, he knows that it is not cooked properly and it is uncooked coz cook was in hurry so he kept is uncooked.... I was surprised that how can some restaurant serve uncooked food to customer even though they are aware of fact. This simply shows the standard of this restaurant. Please take my advice and avoid getting disappointed
