I have lived in Belleville for about 7 years, in New Jersey since 1969. I love diners but have not always been lucky enough to live near one thats consistently good. The Arlington has been a place where I can get a delicious meal and leave feeling better than when I came in. The soup is fantastic (thank Pedro for this - my favorites are the Yankee Bean, Chicken Vegetable and Lentil), the daily specials are fresh and tasty, the breakfast menu is good 24/7 (go for the Florentine Omelet or the whole wheat banana pancakes), and the desserts are "to live for" - especially the cheese cake of course. The staff has always been decent and even delightful at times. I cant speak for the daytime (except for beautiful Barbara who is dearly missed), but I can give feedback on the later afternoon and evening folks: David and Nick have been excellent hosts; servers Janice, Bo, Colleen, Patrice, Mary and others have been efficient, kind, hard working, funny as hell and/or just plain nice; the busboys work hard at cleaning and carrying away. I know we all love to complain and, of course, its possible to have a bad experience even in a great place (I have had a couple of hamburgers that needed repair). But that can be true anywhere if were honest. The thing about the Arlington, for me, is that it has been consistently good and even great in quality of food and service. And on the rare occasion Ive had a problem, I can courteously call someones attention to it and they will do something to make it right and do so without a hassle. If you want a reasonably priced, generous and consistently good place to eat, I enthusiastically recommend the Arlington; it has been that for me.

THE WORST DINER EVER! And Ive been to plenty of diners. First let me just say that our waiter, nice guy with glasses, was a decent human being, and nice. He was the ONLY one. The manager refused to serve my gf and I anymore drinks because the first two glasses of wine I ordered, tasted watered down, and I refused to pay for watered down wine. Plus it didnt sit to well in my stomach. I tried the red first then the white wine, I swear they were flat and diluted tasting. So I ordered a beer instead. Manager comes over after the waiter tells the manager that he refuses to tell us that theyre not going to serve us anymore drinks. Like, he refused to treat a customer like that. Anyway he totally disregards us, doesnt say hes the manager, doesnt speak on the drinks. A next manger, lady, comes over and makes matters worse. No customer service skills at all. She was rude and had a nasty attitude. She tells me that the owner doesnt speak. The food was bland, overpriced and non appealing. I would never go back or recommend this place to anyone I know. Im sure the only reason they get away with this is because they are in the middle of no where, and probably have the same cliental from 20 years ago.

A friend of mines father passed away and he loved this place so the repast was held here. During our meal, my friends mother had a seizure and had to be rushed to the hospital. In the midst of awaiting the ambulances and my friend having a terrible panic attack, the manager attempted to force his waitress to come to my friend to try to get the bill paid. The restaurant was filled with those of us who attended the repast and we obviously would have paid once the paramedics took my friends mother away and we had a moment. We did pay the bill and everything was fine, but in all seriousness, HORRIBLE service. HORRIBLE. The waitress had to scream call 911 about 100 times. The manager never once came to see if anyone was okay.. he only cared about the bill. SUPER RUDE. To the waitress: you were very nice and we appreciated how you handled the situation. This is not anything bad to say about her or the service she provided. This was purely managements gross mishandling of a sensitive situation.

We ate there this evening. I ordered a burger medium rare, and my wife had a grilled chicken dinner. Her dinner was just ok, looked lifeless but passable. My burger was visibly burnt, well done and the bun was really charred. Nothing like what I ordered. When I went into the mens room one of the employees left the stall and headed right out to the food area without washing his hands. My wife saw a bug in the ladys room. To top it off, we wanted to get out of there, and she had a dessert with her meal, so she opted to take home a container of rice pudding. When we got home she found a large piece of what looked like an old carrot in the pudding. Eat there at your own risk.

Great food and locale. Stopped in for coffee and their cheesecake after getting curious from that "world famous cheesecake" sign. Amazing cheesecake, the "crust" is more of a flan like caramel topping, complete with a little syrup. Fluffy and fresh cheesecake with no crust. Interesting to see a cheesecake that doesnt do a graham cracker crust, but in this case it works perfect. Their coffee was fresh, no acidity whatsoever. Nice to see a diner that takes pride in serving great coffee. Ordered their waffle fries, they were done fresh and came out hot and still glistening with oil. Easily now in my top five Northern NJ diner lineup after this, will definitely be back again.

Been coming here for years; however i havent been there in awhile because I moved to central Jersey; i had the chicken parm dinner and it tasted really bland. While we were paying the check at the counter I mentioned to the host how the chicken parm tasted bland and if anything changed and his response was "nothing changed" and "the food is actually fresher due to the storm (hurricane sandy)". I said something had to change, the food was really bland. he said trans fats a few year ago. I said yeh OK. They rejected the feedback..... almost made it seem like I was trying to score a free meal. Im not going back until they change back to the old Arlington diner.

This diner is racist from the moment I walked in @2:20 am for a late meal the guy at the door starred me down. I am a black man that was wearing sweats and a hoodie I just wanted some food but felt so stereotyped. The food was awful and so were the prices. After I ate my food and proceeded to exit the diner the same heavy sized guy starred me Down and immediately after I stepped out the door he scurried to my table to see if I left money at my table. Guess he thought I was trying to ditch the bill but anyways I felt so discriminated. Best to avoid a place like this. Best thing about it was the late night crowd, at the diner very lively.
