I have tried a number of local Indian restaurants, and they mostly have the same atmosphere and quality of food. Chatni is a similar experience, if not a little better than average when compared to the others. The food choices seemed to capture anything you would want from the cuisine, and the food was very good. The service on this particular night was accommodating but understaffed; one waitress had to try to keep up with several tables, which isnt an easy task. However, she did her best to provide excellent service to all the patrons. Side note: like many of the others in the area, Chatni is BYOB. Update: I went to Chatni again, this time with a Groupon. The food was good again, but the service was severely lacking. Our waiter paid us no attention, and it took a very long time to do anything that required waiter interaction, including getting a to-go box or just getting and paying our bill. Im not sure if the Groupon played into the poor service or if it is just standard here. It seems being severely understaffed is part of the atmosphere, and I sure wish it wasnt.

Food was great and the restaurant was clean. Came in with a group of 21 on a Friday night and they were able to accommodate us all. We ordered almost everything from the menu and not one of my friends complained. Service was a little slow with a few items not making it to our table. Other than that we had a very pleasant experience. Its also byob so yeah..Drink up

Food is worse and taste is pathetic. They never delivered what we ordered. Please do not give order to server name Satendra. He is totally dumb and he will never understand what you are ordering. This was bad experience and will never suggest to anyone. Its better to try at Satish Restaurant. Worse restaurant in Montclair. They dont know Indian Taste.

I have been to this restaurant numerous times and have never been dissapointed. The food is fantastic, and the restaurant has a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The staff is very friendly. The quality of food is consistent. I am a vegetarian, and there is a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, but there are also many choices of meat dishes as well.

I had high high hopes that were quickly depleted. The chicken tikka masala tasted like they had taken a can of tomato soup and put chicken in it. The naan was pita with garlic on top. I have to say the people could not have been nicer and tbe service was great. They took naan off bill. I only complained about the naan.

A Great Disaster !!!! We ordered food for 6 people of a conference, the restaurant guys delivered food for one. This was a such a great insult infront of foriegn deligates as they were waiting for food and here comes "Food for only One". Also the food was disgusting. Will never ever prefer this restaurant.

I recently visited the restaurant. After a conversation with a friendly waitress I realized it’s under a new management now. I ordered chicken 65, chicken briyani and garlic naan. I absolutely loved their food. Also, the bigger portion compared to other Indian restaurants. I can’t wait to try other dishes.

After trying out several Indian cuisine in NJ, this came across to be one of the better ones. Good ambience, well maintained kitchen area, authentic Indian food, timely service and well mannered staff. Had a great time with the family. Should be visiting this place regularly.

Absolutly fabulous. Great service, great atmosphere, very classy. Its right next to several other indian resturants but i cant speak for them. This one is great. Be prepared to eat lots of food. Lots of excellent food.
