Occasionally you come across a meal that changes the way you view particular food items. Im a steak man. Clearly, this is known. Ive eaten hundreds of cuts in my endeavor to find the best that NYC has to offer. I thought Id pretty much seen it all in the world of steak. What else could there be, aside from some aged wagyu, or something completely ridiculous and rare? But just when I was starting to get a little bored and comfortable with my favorite food, Petrossian Chef Richard Farnabe came through with a completely unique and utterly genius steak offering. The cut itself is something with which we steak aficionados are familiar; a 28-day, dry-aged strip loin (NY Strip). This lean cut hails from Four Story Hill Farm in PA. But Chef Richards preparation is what sets it apart from the panoply of great meats in the city of this cuts namesake; its cooked to a perfect medium rare all the way through, and topped with bone marrow and caviar. Caviar? Why would someone do that, you ask? Well, having eaten it, I have a hypothesis: The natural brine and salt content in the caviar compliments the aged taste of the meat in a tremendous way. Aged beef has a certain flavor profile to it - earthy, funky, and highly concentrated. The caviar, being naturally salty and funky in its own right, is the perfect pairing with this kind of meat. It helps bring out those aged characteristics while also providing a juicy pop and briny burst to each bite. And, as you might expect, the marrow adds some nice fat flavor and texture back into the lean cut of beef. It really is a brilliant conception. In my opinion this is probably one of the best strip steaks you can find in town. 10/10. Its accompanied by a semi-raw, ice cold asparagus salad. This adds some acidity and fresh green flavors to the meal, deftly balancing the punch youre getting from the steak. And thats not the only beef I tried. On the appetizer menu, they offer A4 wagyu topped with grilled sturgeon. This comes with a pickled quail egg and some caviar as well, along with a little crispy potato cube. When eaten together (beef and fish), you are experiencing that same beautiful pairing of earth and sea, one enhancing the other. The sturgeon had a flavor that was reminiscent of a good, Japanese style grilled eel. The slightly candied or caramelized, almost sweet top coating on the sturgeon pulled out a lot of those rich beef fat flavors from the steak. Another 10/10. For the record I believe this was sliced strip loin, but since its A4 wagyu, I will include it in my "other cuts" section for catalog purposes. Now that Ive gotten the most important things out of the way, let me briefly discuss the remainder of the meal... REVIEW CUT FOR LENGTH

I saw these menus lying around on one of my patients bedside, and the fan of Desi food that I am, I immediately noted down the #. Today I ordered the chicken/veg lunchbox, and the lady who owns the place took my order and called me back 5 min later to say she was sending over the delivery boy and would I be kind enough to call her back and review the food. All I can say is this is the best-tasting Desi food Ive ever eaten in NYC. Everything was just delicious. For $7.95, I got a neat plastic lunchbox with Peas Pilaf, Chicken Curry and a veggie curry in 3 compartments+1naan+Soda+a teeny-weeny box of some kind of sweet pudding+3 kinds of chutneys w free delivery!!!! The naan was the best Ive ever tasted, the pilaf mild and fragrant and the currys were just scrumptious, did not have that typical restauranty taste with oodles of oil floating on top. My Guyanese colleague immediately popped her head around from her cubicle and very enthusiastically asked for the menu bcz it smelled so good. I am definitely a fan. Its kind of sad though that as I passed the restaurant on my way home, I had to seek and search to find the modest little sign above the store. P.S.: wasnt Gandhi vegetarian?? :D

The chicken tikka is delicious and I am a regular costumer but I have to say that they are getting lazy and careless and this hasnt been the first time. The last three times I have ordered food from this restaurant my naan has been burnt my order has been wrong and I have waited about two hours for the food to be delivered when I live half a mile away. That is ridiculous their customer service alsois not the best their delivery man is very rude demanding a tip after I have waited for two hours, come on tips for what? Ill be thinking twice about ordering again. dont let all of this discourage you though and food is usually good and very different from the normal Chinese takeout.

Ive now eaten twice at Gandhi and have come away licking my lips both times. The Dal makhni and tikki masala (I had mine with chicken) were both delicious, as was the naan. A couple of the appetizers in particular are worth trying: the chana poori (chickpea dish) is amazing, and the chicken-filled samosas are tasty and I think unique to this restaurant. I also highly recommend the mango lassi - a sweet yogurty drink. The owners are incredibly friendly and solicitous and make one feel at home. I wish it were a tiny bit cheaper, but the prices are reasonable given the quality.

We were coming from Manhattan to a concert at The Kings Theatre, with no place to eat. We were so lucky to find Gandhi. Everything was delicious and authentic. The serving staff and the owner were quite helpful as we ordered. We ate soup, salad, breads, aloo ghobie, tandoori chicken, tandoor shrimp. And delicious rice pudding. The Indian food was better here than our local Indian restaurants in Manhattan downtown. We will eat here again when we go to the next concert.

After reading the reviews I went to try this place and it was great. Small place and nothing fancy in terms of decor. But the atmosphere and the food was amazing, we had several dishes and all of them were great. If you go, try the chicken masala (VERY VERY GOOD) and the samosa. The place is small but cozy and the husband and wife were very nice and kind to us. Would recommend this place to all my friends and definetly coming back.

The best Indian Ive had! And Ive been to Indian places all over the country and NYC. I highly recommend the Chef Specials. I personally love the Malabar Curry which is made with Lime and Mustard Seeds. Also the Achari Ghost which Im not sure what its made with but love it! And the Malabar Curry and the Saag Panir is the best EVER! Just try it and find out for yourself. Its not pricey so you dont have much to lose.

Probably not the cleanest place. The utensils werent cleaned well. Linty and dusty all over. Place didnt smell that good upon entering. The food was alright. The spinach dish wasnt that tasty. The curry was good. Tap water available. The restaurant is small but service was good. Didnt look like bathrooms were available. Street parking wasnt difficult to find. Probably good to order for takeout.

I have tried a couple indian spots in the community. I bought the shrimp saag and the channa saag, the best shrimp as far as juiciness, the worst tasting. Too much tomato paste in the saag. It just taste like tomato paste. The portions are generous. The food and naan is so over priced, spent 50 dollars on three naan and two entrees. I will not be going back.
