We visited Tavern on the Lake today, and we were extremely disappointed. We sat outside and the large white tent is dirty, moldy, and ripped. The patio needs some TLC including pulling weeds that are at least 6 inches high going up the steps. The menus were sticky and dirty. You felt like you needed to wash your hands after handling them. We witnessed someone sweeping the patio then brushed off a table with the broom. Also, the bathrooms need a good scrubbing. The food was just alright. I had the Tavern Brushetta Salad with shrimp. The salad was good but grilled shrimp rather than boiled shrimp would have added just the right additional flavor. Someone else ordered the same salad with chicken and the chicken had no flavor. The tomato sauce in the mussels tasted like can sauce. We were with a group of 6 and all the complaints listed above were mentioned by at least one of us. Hopefully, the owner or manager reads these reviews so that they can make improvements and provide the staff with training for proper cleaning techniques. No. 1 rule - dont use a dirty broom to brush off a table!

Ate there last night with friends. An odd place. Good food, mind you, but an odd place. A sports bar with more neon lights than Ive seen in one place. An outdoor terrace with live music. Seems like its trying to be many things to many people. The food, though, was very good. As our waiter explained, "theres a guy from Italy in the kitchen." That guy, whoever he is, has created a a great array of unusual and creative dishes that were very good. I had the Saffron Raviolo - raviolis with scallops and fried artichokes in a saffron cream sauce. A friend had the Lamb Cannolini with mushrooms. Very nice, but one order can be split two (possibly) three ways. My wife and her friend split an order of Pollo Allo Spiedo - well prepared and beautifully plated. Hats off to the Italian guy in the kitchen. My only criticism: after 9:00, the regulars come in for beers on the terrace. The "smoking zone" at the back of the terrace suddenly expands to the whole terrace. Not too pleasant for the late diners enjoying their meal on the terrace.

This review isnt completely for Tavern on the Lake. I had a great experience there. The staff is very friendly and their beer is on point. What should be known is that this place is cop bait. There are several cop cars that circle around the bar multiple times. They keep tabs on how many people are outside smoking cigarettes. They also circle up and down the main street its on. They WILL pull you over. Even if youre not drinking nor do anything wrong. Once again.. they are going to pull you over. So if you happen to be the last people there keep in mind they are targeting you and have every intention of stopping you.

Its a real shame that this place has downtown Hightstowns only liquor license. The interior and exterior are cheaply finished and mismatched. The menu is boring and poorly executed. The smell hovers between grandmas attic and old deep frier. Ive been over-charged for beer multiple times. And by and large the place just has a crumby, unwelcoming feel. Its as if the owners are intentionally designing the experience that I dont want to have, right down to the user of comic sans on the sign. Avoid this place and head to the Americana instead. Hopefully it get bought and fixed soon.

Took our waitress 15 mins, to come over to us to start, we ordered a few beers, took 10 mins to get that, and then After our beers were finished the waitress took at least 15 mins to get another round, we almost just got up and left without our tab, had at any point she would have came over to check on us we probably would have been able to add another round or two, but her service was so bad. The few younger waitresses there seemed to be on top of their game, but not ours she was bad from the start, being more interested in her kid being there

All ways a good experience. I had a cheddar burger with sauteed onions sliced tomatoe French fries coleslaw pickle and a cold tap beer for around 10 bucks.cant beer that.than took a walk along the lake and chatted with an old timer who was feeding bread to the fish.great place to go alone sit at the bar and watch the game or with friends.take your wife or girlfriend,(just not at the same time.) That could cause some problem. ( lol). Charlie from hamilton. ,and a pleasant attentive staff.

This place is great, staff was good, food decent, great music, great crowd, fun atmosphere. Dont be mislead by bad reviews, some vibes arent for some...for instance, the outdoor tent that you can bring your beer out to and smoke in.... God forbid if its a bit visually unappealing. It serves a purpose and serves it well. Know your surroundings people. Cool bar/restaurant.

I recently had my husbands 30th surprise birthday party at Tavern on The Lake. It was a tremedous success. The food, atmosphere and staff were amazing. The food was fresh and delicious, our server was friendly and efficient, and the band that played that night did a great job. I highly recommend this place! Keep up the good work Joan and Co.! See you soon!

Waitresss are extremely polite and helpful, however the food was horrible. And most importantly, the beer was skunked. Asked for another pint, still skunked, switched to bottle. Chicken wings are BORRRRRING, "hot" isnt hot at all so I asked for nuclear sauce to even enjoy them. Noticed a weird odor inside the bar, had to sit outside to get fresh air.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I understand a kitchen can be short staffed but notify your customer. Waitress never came around to refill drinks. Spilled a drink on my husband and THREE tables that came after us got food before us! What really pissed me off is when the manager raised his voice with an attitude and said "what do you want me to do?"

Found with Google places which showed weak reviews. Thought Id give it a try since it has good curb appeal. Sat at the bar for lunch. Bartender Ron was great. Attentive & fast. Burger was great. Big & cooked to my liking. Fries were good also. Great place to watch a game. Plenty of TVs & good size bar/dining area. Also has a nice patio.

Everything about my visit here was fairly pleasant. The portions are well worth the money and the staff is friendly. However, I ordered the chicken Marsala and I found it to be a bit tasteless. I would give this place another try if I am in the area again.

Your usual local sports bar. Their burgers are pretty good and the 2 times Ive been there the service has been good. The reviewer that mentioned the possibility of getting pulled over late night is not lying. This tiny town is known for this. So be careful.

This is a nice local bar, its big with high ceilings. The bartenders are friendly and attentive; the bar food is better than average and the prices are great. it could be cleaner, particularly the restroom, but other than that I like the place.

Food is mediocre, service is slow because staff is clearly spread thin. But, bartenders have always been great and the beer selection for such a small dive is fantastic. In short: go for the bar and the music, skip the food.
