My search is over I have finally found a great authentic Cuban restaurant!!..After going through all of Union City and West New York in search of something close to how my father use to cook i have found my place in Casual Habana Cafe. We had the baby pernil which was wonderful- the yuca and moro rice was out of this world delicious as well as the platanos, empanadas and oh my God dont leave without trying the tamal-it tasted like they just picked it from the farm and onto your plate in fact everything I had, tasted like it was from farm to table, thats how fresh. I live a half hour away but i will soon be returning to try the rest of the menu- thats how impressed I was. Their next challenge: the shakes. I have tried many cuban shakes and they are all water down and tasteless. So we will see how theirs compare. Be prepare for a bit of a wait for the food to come out but you will not be disappointed. Take it from someone who is extremely picky. My husband had the same as me and loved it and my "I hate all foods except pizza" son had the Pechuga de Pollo al Ajillo and although he could not finish it all is already making plans for tomorrows leftovers. Portions are also large so come with an appetite. My only disappointment was that there was no "pasteles de guayaba". I think if added to the menu they would be a big hit because no other Cuban restaurant has them-you have to go to the bakery for them. You can even have them to go just like the bakeries do. I know i would have taken a dozen home to save myself a trip into west new york or union city. Lastly the service was attentive and friendly even in a pack restaurant. The waitress found out it was my birthday and brought out a flan with a candle and the staff sang me happy birthday, Very sweet. The chef came out (he might also be the owner not sure) and asked how our dinner was and we had a nice talk about Cuban food. Hopefully he will read the part about the pasteles de guayaba LOL.

I have dined at Casual Habana Cafe four times, and each time the experience gets better and better. The decor is beautiful, and very pleasent and heart warming. The tapas and drinks section allows you to sit with your party and enjoy delicious tapas and drinks while waiting for your table to be ready, the time flew by and made the wait enjoyable. The service is friendly, knowledgable, and very comforting. The food is out of this world good! I have tried a variety of entrees and tapas, my favorites are the ropa vieja it is delicious and flavor is amazing. The croquetas are spectacular. The prices are more than reasonable and the food is ample and sufficient. They offer a wonderful variety of food, tapas and drinks. The maitred is charming and very friendly. The owner deserves a round of applause for the authenticity and beautiful decor and great food. Bravo!

Food was amazing. I had ropa vieja with fried yuca , white rice and black beans. I also had a margarita. My husband has skirt steak with totones and piña colada. We were sitting at the front of the restaurant when you walk in to your left hand side by the window. The air conditioner in that area did not work was pretty hot and uncomfortable. We all felt the area was very hot and it was the air conditioner because , after we asked for the check we used the restroom we noticed the restaurant had great air conditioner and some areas but, not where we were sitting. I did not like we had to constantly ask for water to the waitress and took long to bring us an expresó and flan. We left and did not get to taste their famous flan and Cuban coffee. Overall was ok.

I went there for my daughter 25th birthday, the place is ok and service was good but I have to say, we order 3 apetizers, I got a wrong apetizer, fine I order maduros with the entree, didnt get it, we where a party of 7 I ordered a mixed grill for me and my husband the churrasco and chicken were great, the grill pork was like a pice of dry tuber hard, tasteles, plain terrible, old, they shouldve been honest and told me they ran out of pork and put extra beef or something, but not assume they can give you whatever, if that wasnt the case I wouldve given 4 starts!

I have been going to this cuban restuarant for a few year now. It has only gotten better over the years. Chef and owner Benny is great he greets all his guests. If he has time has interesting conversations with us. The specials are always wonderfull. My favorite dishes are the Oxtail, Ropa Vieja, The fish dishes are always fresh, and all entrees come with twe sides. His salad dressing is to die for. Can get quite busy on the weekends best to make reservations. Never been dissapointed any time we gone Always recommend to my friends

I have gone here twice with my boyfriend. This place is amazing. First time i order the skirt steak w/ tostones and veggies. I was on cloud 9. Second time I decided to switch it up. Got the shrimp in garlic cause w/ white rice and tostones. WOW! The sauce on the shrimp was absolutely delicious. The sangria is great too! Small low key restaurant and you can BYOB. Loved it!

I got a Cuban Sandwich today. The plantain and Cassava chips served as sides were crunchy, fresh & flavorful. The Cuban Sandwich itself was fantastic and what made it more exquisite was the side Onions and Garlic sauce that accompanied this meal. The staf are very cordial and friendly, always grreting folks with a smile.

I DONT THINK THE OWNER KNOIWS THIS CAUSE HE WOULDNT SELL THIS. GREAT STAFF. COME ON GUYS GET IT TOGETHER.

The appetizers are tasty and the main dish portion are good. The dish Frita Cubana (Flank Steak) is good but dish Ropa Vieja is not. It should be well cooked before serving, it is so chewy even though it looks like well done and is shredded. Do not order Ropa Vieja or you will be disappointed.

Honestly the worst meal I have had in at least one year. There were truckloads of salt in all the food except the calamari which tasted like (bad) rubber-bands. Drinks very generic but overpriced. If the ropa vieja tasted like old rope, it would be a vast improvement. Stay away!

The service hear was top notch. An intimate place for good food and concluded with a cortadito. Benny, the owner was great as was his staff, Chucky, Daniel and a couple of others. They were all very attentive yet not intrusive. I definitely recommend Casual Habana.

Awesome authentic Cuban food. Prices and atmosphere are fantastic. Chef Benny comes out and stops by every table to make sure everything is good. Make reservations if you go on a Saturday night b/c it does get busy. Blows Cuban Petes in Montclair out of the water.
