Great food, immaculate service, quick, and quaint. Where do I start. I stopped here on a whim one night after shopping and didnt have any expectations. I figured it would just be a non-chain version of chilis, chi chis, etc. Very wrong. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but the outdoor seating is beautiful and there is a definite charm and intimate coziness to the inside. It was packed when I came in, and the hostess brought us over to one of the only two open tables, seeing as it was a young husband and wife, she quickly realized the center of the room was probably not what we wanted and moved us to the other open table near a corner by the window. I didnt have to say anything. Service was quick and polite. Any time I put down a used napkin and turned around it was gone. I never had to ask to have my drink refilled. Being a fan of latin cuisine I asked for something I didnt see on the menu (but was common) just on the off chance they had some off the menu specials or something. They did not, but the waiter checked with the chef and they made it for me anyway. Incredible. It was an absolutely above and beyond experience and made our night. The food was authentic and tasty. and prices were also very modest. Literally everything you could want int a restaurant. Will be going back whenever Im in town.

Freehold is a gastronomical wasteland and I was certain my ability to find an economical, tasty spot for lunch would be unsuccessful. I finally spotted a restaurant with actual diners looking like they were enjoying themselves. I asked to see the menu and in spite of having no lunch specials my interest was still piqued. The waiters were friendly and I ordered the lamb tacos. I thought $9.99 was more than my $6.00 Chinese lunch special budget but the food was good and I was pleased. The tacos were served with a non descript scoop of Mexican rice and very simple beans, but the actual tacos contained tasty lamb and good ingredients. A good dousing with the house habanero sauce and I had an interesting lunch. The only detraction, as I was sitting back thinking I had succeeded in the Freehold wasteland, was to find a long black hair on the edge of the plate which I quickly disposed of. In general it was a good experience with good people and good food in a nice place.

Worst service ever. We didnt eat there. Ordered then waited 1 hour. During that hour, the server never came. To get more chips and water we had to go ask. After an hour, there were no longer many customers, still no food. Went to ask manager about it. Rather than finding out and making it right, his response was, "So do you still want your food or what?" Ive heard the food is good there so I was looking forward to it. But we left after that. Not sure what was going on, but we felt we were discriminated for some reason (race, the way we looked?). Others were getting served. This place doesnt deserve a second chance for that.

We tried El Meson for a 2nd time and again were totally disappointed. Your followers must frequent Taco Bell people cause our food was terrible. My wife hated the her Nacho Supreme and the waiter asked to wrap the dish up she said she didnt like it. The management should train the staff to accommodate a customer who hates their food and not just shrug it off and dump it. The food was swimming in a juice and was all soggy. Just because your on the freehold boro restaurant alley doesnt mean you charge high prices. Rice pudding $7.99. Really??? The sauces on my dish was bland and had no taste. Avoid this place at all cost. Terrible.

Ordered the restaurant special, served in a pipin hot lava bowl. It is similar to fajitas, has three meats..chicken, steak, and shrimp with vegetables in a sauce of your choosing. It was very tasty and came with sides of beans, rice, Pico, and flour tortillas. My husband had 3 enchiladas filled with your choice of several meats, chicken, steak, shrimp, lamb, pork carne asada and beans and rice. Quaint family friendly atmosphere. Stopped by Friday night around 9 and it was bustling with people, laughter, hot plates and friendly staff. Definitely will be back.

Very authentic Mexican style food. The place is very small and is always packed so get there early. They do charge per drink even if you are getting non-alcoholic so be aware going in. Food is very good however but is also a little more in price than other places in the area. Food does make up for it in quality and taste. You have to enter through the back of the restaurant and the front of the restaurant is a little mexican grocery type shop. Would highly recommend for a great meal.

My wife and I went for the first time and were disappointed. While the salsa was excellent (hard to screw up), our entrees were completely lacking any taste. I had a the quesadilla with vegetables and my wife had a burrito with hot salsa. I was pretty sure I could have made something as good or better in my kitchen and Im no cook. The waitress never looked at us in the eyes and wasnt friendly at all.I dont konw what people see in this place. The food doesnt warrant the price.

the food is delicious, authentic mexican. it is definitely worth the price, which arent really expensive. it has a great atmosphere and friendly service, a great place for a family dinner or a romantic meal for two. Ive been there many times, too many to count actually. it is my birthday dinner every year, Im going today since it is my birthday! I always recommend this restaurant to any friends or family members that are in the mood for some tasty mexican.

I have been a costumer for El Meson for many years and it has been the best. Every time i go there the treat me well & the food is wonderful. The combination platers are well stuffed like the quesadillas with a veriaty of meats and vegetables. The worm tortilla chips and the spicy tomato salsa just hits the spot. You have to go and enjoy the enchiladas and chimichangas with the ranchera sauce. The atmospher is so cozzy. El Meson is #1 in all New Jersey.

Hold on to your sombrero, you are in for a treat in this authentic Mexican BYO that blows away all of the competition in Central Jersey. Expect to sit in line with a mob of eager diners sipping beer from their coolers. The service is rushed but polite, the seating is crowded but creates a party atmosphere, the food is piled on the plates but over the top excellent. In many visits I have never had a good or bad dish here, all have been WONDERFUL!
