Heard great reviews from this place so we had to check it out for ourselves. Id give it 5 stars if our second visit was as great as our first visit. They have a great brunch menu with various options. Everything sounded so tasty. For our first visit we had the mocha Ghirardelli. Absolutely delicious! Our server was very friendly and attentive, we were seated on the left side of the main entrance. Food was delicious and very well made. We had to try the cheesecake because theyre known for it. I love cheesecake and I agree! Fresh, savory and delicious. Second time was a different experience. Same time for brunch, we were seated on the right side. Hostess was very friendly and took care of us right away. As soon as we sat down the table was sticky didnt seem like it was cleaned. We waited 15 min having three servers pass by us without even acknowledging us. Until the hostess that seated us came through and asked if we were attended. We asked to be moved to a different table. As soon as we sat down to table across our previous table, a family was seated at our old table. The same waitress that passed by us now 20 minutes of and attending the tables around us, attended the family within minutes. She again ignored serving us being in her area and we were attended by another waitress. I was very disappointed compared to the first time. If I didnt have such a great experience the the first time, we would have walked out and gone someplace else. The food is great, just needs to work on attending the customers properly without discrimination. Especially that one waitress.

Much better than your average NJ diner. Generally speaking, their food is very good and fresh. So far there has been only one dinner entree that I didnt like and it was on a late Sunday night before closing (some kind of chicken rice dish that had bell peppers in it). Other than that, its been really good. My favorites include the omelettes and HOMEMADE CORNED BEEF HASH. Also, the beef gyro sandwich is awesome. Fried chicken dinner was good and their fries delicious and crispy, not soggy. They have a good salad bar, baked potato bar, and homemade soups. I always take my mother and my aunt when they come to visit as they look forward to it. My only complaint is that the host/hostess often leaves the front desk and disappears and guests that walk in often have to wait longer than they should to be seated.

When ordering chicken fingers and honey mustard, you would expect not only the chicken fingers and a side of honey mustard, but also a side of fries and a good presentation. Here, that is wrong. the presentation of the chicken fingers was extremely poor, simply a single piece of lettuce. not only that, but the honey mustard (usually in a cup of some sort) was served in its original container, like what you would see at McDonalds. Extremely poor presentation. The chicken fingers themselves tasted awful, with absolutely no flavor, yet a terrible aftertaste. Do not order the chicken fingers. Aside from that, the waffles tasted burnt. Also, the patty melt was seasoned very poorly. If 0 stars was an option, I would put that.

We took a VERY large group (28 people) to the Colonial Diner for breakfast this week. Scheduling the breakfast with Najat was quick and easy. Once we arrived at the diner, Cassidy was our server and she was excellent; prompt, courteous, and organized. All of the orders were taken at the same time, and all the food came out at the same time, HOT! The food was delicious... and we had a little of everything. Eggs + toast, omelets, french toast... you name it, and it was on our table. Everything was fantastic. Needless to say, I am a stickler for superior service and excellent food... I am pleased to say the Colonial Diner really exceeded every expectation we had! Thank you Najat and Cassidy!

How to lose a loyal repeat customer in three easy steps... If I had written this review a year ago, it would have been a rave review, but there is a definite change in atmosphere, attitude, and pricing as this diner tries to go even more upscale. Following their renovation, their food remains excellent, but their wait staff seems to have forgotten that customers in a down economy cannot be pinched for an extra $5 every meal when ordering the same thing every time, and when you try to get any sympathy from management - they are asleep a the wheel. The decline has begun.

The first two times I was here I had a basic diner experience. Burgers and fries here are decent but your definitely going to need a glass of water to get it down because both are dry and unflavorful. The third time I went just for dessert, not wanting to test out ordering something other then a basic diner burger. I ordered the chocolate mouse, but instead of getting that I was given old chocolate cake which was covered in fingerprints. When I told our waitress I wanted something else I got a very cold response. All and all, not going back.

Words can not describe what this place is. I got food poisoning. So did another person in my party of 4. So, 1/2 of the party got food poisoning. They gave us glasses of water, and there was something greenish-yellow in it. I got macaroni and cheese because I wasnt that hungry. There was something green it that, too. I was in disgust, so I didnt eat it. They still charge us. And, the service was extremely slow, despite the tiny amount of people in the restaurant. The water we had was not polite, either. Worst diner I have ever went to.

Im very surprised by these other reviews; are these people talking about the same place? The food here is phenomenally good, especially considering the lack of good food choices in NJ. This is not a typical diner in NJ though, so on that part people are correct. This is several levels above. So if you are looking for mediocre food served 24/7 at lower prices, you probably wont be happy here. But if you are looking for excellent food at a price similar to a slightly-upscale chain restaurant, this is the place.

I thought it was pretty amazing. I love visiting diners in the area and I normally go to restaurants i see with full parking lots. We happened to be riding past and I said to my boyfriend we should go and visit because the parking lot is full. So we went on a Sunday it was packed but the wait was not long and the food was pretty doggone delicious. He ordered a pork chop breakfast situation and I ordered the Steel Cut Oats with lots of fruit. I really did enjoy myself.

Worst diner I ever went to in NJ!! Food wasnt anything special, the waitress spilled water all over our table. Me and 7 other people came here and they made some of our group wait longer for their food than anyone else. We had to ask like 4 people working here for napkins and syrup before finally we get 3 napkins. Would never come here again or recommend this place to anybody except health inspection

Food is decent but menu is very limited, not at all what youd expect for a typical NJ diner. Kind of misleading. I dont think it should be considered to be a diner. Service is inconsistent, some servers are great, others are awful. Salad bar is good. If you order an individual salad meal its really skimpy. Try the juevos rancheros, delicious.
