It really saddens me that the once great MASTORIS diner has turned into a sub-par, nickle and dime establishment where cutting portions and serving "slop" is the priority over quality food, generous portions and customer service. The lunch menu has become a joke, with junk/uninteresting selections for $12, served with a puny size cheese bread, even their baked white cheese macaroni side which used to be among the best Ive ever eaten tastes like cheap slop now. The salisbury steak tasted like "mystery meat" and is 1/2 the size it used to be. Butter was no where to be found on the table for the bread, when I asked for it, the waitress said "oh they dont let us keep it around". If Mastoris management was as concerned about restoring the once great diner to their former glory as opposed to customers walking off with pats of butter and making all the customers and staff feel like criminals, perhaps theyd would be as busy as they used to be at lunch time. I can assure you, we will stop coming here all together, because the new owners/management are running a wonderful institution into the ground and need to change the focus back to happy customers/excellent value-food from squeezing every cent of profit from mediocrity. It rather sickening what theyve done to this place....GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! Signed, Long time and very disappointed customer.

The bread is delicious. Most menu items Ive tried are fine, if not delicious. But for the love of everything good and right with this world, do not get the pancakes. You may be thinking, as I did, how bad can a pancake really be.... If you want to find out, this is the place for you. They are offensively bad. Im writing this 2 days after ordering them, and I still shudder at the thought. I considered asking (daring) the chef to come out to try these floppy flaps of what may as well have been shredded cardboard held together by candle wax, just to see if he/she could swallow without gagging. I submit that it is, in fact, impossible to eat an entire short stack and keep it down. These things should be featured in an eating challenge on Survivor. Guaranteed elimination for the poor soul saddled with the task of getting these breakfast abominations down their forsaken throats. If I were starving in the wilderness and on the brink of death, and I had a choice between eating a plate of these pancakes or gnawing on my own arm; Im not saying Id choose the arm...but I would definitely think about it long and hard. The arm would be less painful to eat...

I ordered portobello mushrooms with feta cheese from the "very special" menu and it was. Only disbelief allowed me to take as much as my third bite: blue cheese! Which my dinner companion thought before I made my discovery. I avoid blue cheese because of celiac disease/necessary gluten free considerations and always have because it tastes yechhy to me. Get this: the waitress comes back from the chef, confirms it is blue cheese, says the chef insists it states so on the menu. "Can I see the menu please?" She comes back with the menu- "feta cheese" not "blue cheese" just as before. What chutzpah! I shared parts of my dinner companions meals and they were tasty. Then the check comes and we get charged for my portobello mushroom platter which was returned to the kitchen. At my companions polite protestations, the suffering waitress, didnt take it off but went to see what she could do. Ultimately it was deducted. All I can say is Mastoris must be doing a gangbuster business if it can afford serve one thing and pass it off as another (and unfortunately this was one of three but less dramatic episodes of our ordering experience)

Missed the mark- used to come here often, but most likely wont be back. When we entered, it seemed like no one cared we were there to eat, as a few people walked by and no one welcomed us or offered us a table. I ordered a granny smith omelette, expecting a fresh, eggy omelette with gooey cheese and thinly sliced green apples. What I got was a thin layer of egg wrapped around what appeared to be apple pie filling, complete with the spices and goop youd find in a pie. It was totally gross. On the side was a pile of overcooked shards of potato. My wife ordered french toast which was delivered without syrup, which took us 5 minutes to get as we couldnt find our server. There was some sort of obnoxiously bright ipad hooked up to the table running weird pictorials of the top 10 roller coasters in the world, mixed with tmz stories about sex toy mishaps, which is just unnecessary and certainly not family/kid friendly. Enough with the screens everywhere- cant people just go out to eat and talk anymore?! The only up side is that our server was friendly and seemed to be in a good mood. I guess he had his lunch elsewhere.

I used to love this place. The food was always great with huge portions at reasonable prices considering the amount of food... Now, however, over the past year the prices have gone up and the portion sizes have diminished. Normally I wouldnt care so much, not enough to drive my rating all the way down to a single star, but the quality of the food has dropped so much its barely edible and certainly not worth the prices they charge when compared to other restaurants in the area. Even the breads they give you prior to your meal have dropped to less than HALF of their original sizes. I dont know if they got new chefs or what, but even my omelette was a disgrace one morning. Ive heard that they have new owners, if that is true they have ruined what used to be an amazing place with an emphasis on money rather than food quality. Ive eaten at this place my whole life and with the consistently poor experiences Ive had over the past several months I am sad to say that I will likely not be eating here anymore.

Im never disappointed when I go to Mastoris. Their food is great! When you get there, they ask you what you want to drink. Shortly after you get your drink, they bring you two big pieces of bread: one is cinnamon and one is cheese (I love the cinnamon but I hate the cheese, but apparently the cheese is good to other people). The food is delicious. I always order their pancakes. Theyre GREAT! Mastoris also has a bakery. They sell cupcakes, cakes, cookies, cinnamon and cheese breads to go, and more. Mastoris has several dining rooms, including a bar and a patio (dont worry, theres glass to protect your food from bugs!). The staff is very friendly. Mastoris is probably the best diner in South Jersey. Its definitely worth the drive. Its only about 20 to 30 minutes away from the Burlington-Bristol and Delaware River Turnpike Toll Bridges and isnt far from Burlington. Try it! You wont regret it!

Lousy service, lousy food - Waitress spent more time visiting her friends at a nearby table, looking at her friends iPhone pictures and then would disappear into the kitchen for long periods. Not once, but twice got my order wrong. Food simply stunk - My wifes "California" omelet looked like a pile of slop and was completely tasteless. My "pastrami" was more like pastrami "loaf" (not "REAL NY" pastrami) and was dry and tasteless, steak fries were almost raw and coleslaw had a weird, bitter taste. Overpriced for the quality and taste of the "food" - $1.50 for a slice of swiss cheese on the sandwich? Never again for us..... PS - I sent the fries back and the "new" order was just the same as the first even after telling her "make them well done" - oh well... USED TO BE a great place.
