My buddies and I were vacationing in the area and thought coming to Buck Hill would be nice based on previous reviews. I called to make a reservation for five in the downstairs lounge over two weeks prior to our arrival as it would be for a Saturday night. I made the reservation with the manager. Unfortunately, when we arrived, I was told by the hostess that my reservation wasnt in the book. When I told her I spoke with the manager and made the reservation through him she informed me that he sometimes forgets to write reservations in the book. They said they could accommodate us upstairs instead as there was no room in the lounge. We begrudgingly accepted this offer, but I was not pleased that the management did not apologize for the error or at least offer to comp us a round of drinks. That to me is a sign of good customer service. The food and service were fine, but nothing earth shattering. Ribs are dry rub and not saucy for those that prefer the latter. Burger was OK. Poutine was soggy. The old fashioned cocktail was great.

Very clean, with a very modern take on the classic hunting lodge aesthetic. Food was excellent. We had the pretzel appetizer and the beer cheese was awesome, but so was the beer mustard...it will clear your sinuses if you eat too much at once, though. The French dip was fantastic. The au jus was very clearly made from the drippings, but augmented with rosemary and just a touch of ginger. Unique and very nicely done. The pulled pork sandwich was also very good...the Cole slaw was very light and sweet without being too creamy. The onion rings are made with fish batter, making them simply decadent. All the food was incredible and alone made for a great dining experience. Yet, when married with the wide variety and exceptional character of their own brews, you have a meal experience which is among the best you could ask for. The Truth Serum ESB and Czig Hill Buck Meister collaboration (like a dunkelweiss) were our favorites (the ESB especially). Just a home run experience!

If two and a half stars were possible thats where Id land with this review. The beer here is great! They nailed that part. The interior is very well done and takes you to a high class restaurant (which is an anomaly in this area). The downside is the prices reflect that for basic bar fare. I went with the fish and chips and the batter came out like rubber. Not the crispy breaded fish you expect. I had a hard time cutting through it with a knife you had to let it cool and actually tear it like a tortilla. It was one of the worst fish and chips orders Ive ever had. My wife had the chicken salad wrap and liked it but said it was typical diner quality and not $13 dollar quality. So meh was her opinion. The black bean dip was good but under seasoned and needed salt and could have used some additional spice. So if your in the area stop in for a brew, they nailed that. But Id stay weary of the food for both the quality and price.

We were excited to try the buck hill, so we stopped by for drinks & appetizers late afternoon. This excitement soon disappeared after we were seated and sat idle for 20 minutes. In attempt to revive this dining experience we located a waitress and were able to order some drinks & appetizers. After studying the rustic décor for the 1 hour we determined it was again necessary to find a waitress to check the status of our appetizers. Shortly afterwards our appetizers were delivered….. cold and congealed. We discussed the disappoint that was delivered with management and determined that our best options was to abandon the Buck Hill and look for sustenance elsewhere. Their lack of client consideration was made clear as they removed the cold appetizers from our bill and didn’t comp the drinks or make an effort to rectify the situation.

My husband and I tried this place out last night and we are not sure whether we will go back. Inside its beautiful but way over priced! We sat at the bar and the bartender was mean and rude to other staff which made us feel really uncomfortable. They didnt have Jim Beam whiskey which is common everywhere so that was a let down. The drinks were $9 for a slim little glass so needless to say that was overpriced. We ordered 3 apps and 3 drinks and our bill was $65! Ridiculous. The food was nothing special as well. Stay away from the $11 shrimp appetizer too. They give you 5 basic shrimps and a dipping sauce which should be maybe $6! The wings were good but you get VERY small portions for what your paying for. We werent pleased. I rather go to the diner and get more for my money!!!! We probably wont be back. What a bummer!

We had been beating the route 94 path for some time, in the process of purchasing a home in the area. FINALLY settled in...where to eat out? Being a person that does reviews I had read a few reviews that keep me from trying out Buck Hill. Two weeks ago I thought ... with that many cars there most often for over a years period something was off with the few poor reviews I had read. Well tonight was our second time back in a two week period and I can say without a doubt Buck Hill will be our favorite "go to" my Chicken Panini was outstanding. My husband had Barbecued pulled pork and a burger, which he really enjoyed. The service was pleasant and fast. I can only name one place thats an equal to Buck Hill, for that meal we have to drive almost an hour. My advice is to try it let Buck Hill speak for itself. ☺

I give it a solid Mehhh. Food was ok, pet peeve when a place puts 7 French fries on the plate. I am a beer snob and have been to dozens of micros and I brew myself. Their beer was not good, started with a six sampler flat. Whitetail wit had a funk, tasted like plastic, they attempted to use coriander and failed. The two IPAs tasted like Budweiser with a wicked dose of poor quality hops. The saison fit the category with that ripe banana taste and smell but had a terrible aftertaste. The others were not memorable I think a red and a triple. All had bad aftertaste and a few had some yeast funk. I can tell even if they had a beer that was worth keeping on the menu, which they dont, that they would not be able to duplicate it.

Completely horrible. We decided to go on St. Pattys day, expecting them to play Irish music or at least have on the parade. Neither of those were playing. In a salad we got we found not one hair, but two. Then for the veggie burger it tasted like an old donut which I didnt know was possible. Lastly, while exiting the restaurant, all of the hostesses (very young ones(3)) wouldnt stop staring at my family and I. At first we thought that they all were just looking. But no, we look again and theyre all STILL staring at us. While one of them looks away and pretends that they werent. And the manager called us crazy while leaving, which is very rude and uncalled for. Do not recommend.
