Ive lived in Dover, since the early 90s and have been to China Yan probably over 200 times. I wanted something from the buffet that had just been emptied. When it was ready, they brought it to my table. These folks are always friendly and I can just tell that they enjoy what they do. Buffet includes General Tsos chicken, garlic buttered green beans, pepper steak w/ onions, boneless spare ribs, fried rice, sesame chicken, egg rolls, wonton and sweet-n-spicy soup, and now sushi, with hot or iced tea or soda. One or two items vary occasionally, but for the most part these standards are pretty reliable. Food items are NOT greasy, being cooked in various tasty oils (not grease) depending upon the recipe. I wish theyd expand into the Newington area so I could lunch there from work. They recently redecorated and the buffet is STILL very affordable at $7.95+tax and runs from 11 to 2:30.

I love this place. Its great Chinese food in huge portions for not a lot of money. Okay, so its not gourmet. Its your typical American-style Chinese food, but its done very well. Yes, the place has no ambiance. Yes, they serve you your food in to-go containers. But I love going here! Ive had the same waiter every time and hes super nice and so polite. And if you choose to dine in at supper time, youll probably have the entire place to yourself because most of their evening business is take-out. Ive never been there for the lunch buffet but Ive heard it is awesome. Give China Yan a try, youll be pleasantly surprised.

I agree with the previous review--the China Yan feels more like a cafeteria than a restaurant, with food served in styrofoam take-out containers--the focus appears to be take-out service, at least in the evenings when the buffet is not available. Nevertheless, the in-house service was excellent and the food tasted very fresh. The portions were larger than we expected, and the price was relatively low. Overall, I was impressed with the China Yan, even more so than other local Chinese restaurants with much higher prices.

Great food the best in Dover plates are huge service is always super quick and friendly they have a Buffett that you can eat in or take out from rice is great full of roast pork not blobs of fat best boneless ribs ..Amazing coconut shrimp, Mongolian beef, beef and broccoli everything is delicious I wanna go eat there now just talking about them!!!

Im going to have to give this place another try because my review seems to be the only weak one. Granted the price is inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. So much of the offerings seemed to be swimming in oil and not very fresh. Maybe I was there on an off day.

I hear the buffet is good, but it was not available at dinner so we ordered off the menu. The food was only mediocre. It was brought to our table in take out containers, and we were given Styrofoam plates and plastic forks. Id hoped for more from a Dover staple.

Excellent buffet. Restaurant not meant to have people dine-in after buffet so best to get take out or delivery. Food is great and reasonably priced.
