People who write reviews here obviously havent been to Castaways. Which is why I dislike these reviews. Rival restaurant owners, disgruntled ex employees, and bored losers can write anything they like. You can always tell who those folks are by the fact that theyve only written one review ever. However, if these people actually went out to Castaways they would know how great it is. Lets start with the Food. Castaways has a very simple but great menu. The appetizers are great! Buffalo Shrimp, fried mushrooms, wings, artichoke dip, and more. All good. Tuesday Nights they host "Burger Night" which I gotta say is great and the value for it is amazing. Half Pound Angus burgers with any toppings just $5. They do stuff like this all week long. They have a Wing Night, Pasta Night, and more. The other items on the menu are great and the few times Ive eaten there recently Ive tried their special of the day...fantastic. Next, Service. Castaways is a smaller place so when I went in there during the day there was only one person working the bar and the tables. She was very attentive and nice. When others came in she gave as equal amount of time to everyone as she could. If I were more of a jerk or stuck up I may have thought it was poor service, but honestly I thought it was good service. At night when the place is filled up they have two bartenders on and a lady serving drinks on the floor. Despite how busy it gets...Ive never had to wait more than five minutes for a drink. Those who have been to other bars in the area know how long you can wait at times to get a drink. So some down points but mostly up points...I would say the positive outweighs the negative. Service is good. Atmosphere. Well, Im a little bias about the atmosphere. That being said Castaways hosts some great open mic nights. They have alot of talented, high energy, fun musicians come in. The hosts provide the amplifiers, mics, and drum sets...everyone brings in their own guitars, bass, and other stuff. On Fridays and Saturday Nights they host karaoke. Pretty strait forward with Karaoke, but I gotta say that I have fun all the time because of the mix of karaoke and music. This is not the Friday Saturday night entertainment where there are a bunch of self centered d-bag college students causing trouble. Thats why I like it too. Overall I would say that there are positive and some negative points about anything. I would say that the positive things about Castaways highly outweigh the negative things. Castaways is a friendly "local" restaurant/pub, where the owner of the place is likely to drink with you, and everyone has the chance to become a welcomed and adored "regular". I know I feel welcomed. I strongly recommend that everyone give Castaways a chance or another chance.

We went to there last night for a my Birthday Dinner and it was horrible service. The waitress we had was really bad. We ordered Cocktail Shrimp for an appetizer ( $8.95 ). She sets the plate on the table and leaves without leaving any napkins or utensils to eat with. Most places will ask you if you would like something else. I wanted melted butter but she never came back. My husband had to go ask the bartender for napkins. My husband orders the Surf and Turf ( $18.95 or close to it ) wanted his steak medium rare and it comes out well done and the shrimp over cooked and tough. I ordered the Baked Haddock Dinner and the only thing I ate was the baked Haddock and the cost for the whole bill was $60.00. I think they owe us back our money for the horrible service we got and the food !!!!! The best part of it all was my husband asked her for butter for his potatoes and she said, " I will get some if we have any". Come on people wake up to who you hire for help.

I am bias...however I will tell you that Ive always enjoyed Castaways even before. Their new facelift and friendly staff would be the reason to stop in. Also, there is a new menu...which I am inclined to mention due to the previous review...probably will include more seafood and continental items. (There wasnt a surf n turf on the menu before). Like any business no action can be taken without first knowing. Perhaps if people would see a manager rather than running home to Google review...the owner may be able to address your concerns. The only exception being if the said complainer was the equivalent to a whining child and there is no remedy to their complaint.

Not only was the service absolutely lousy when I went, but the food was also terrible. The chicken tasted like it was left soaking up hamburg grease on the grill and the daily fish special seemed like it was a special because it was on the brink of spoilage. My friend and I went because on the website it said there was live entertainment daily - big lie! They looked at us like we were crazy when we asked about it. I would STRONGLY recommend you stay away from this horrible place!! There are plenty of other, better restaurants in Dover.

The atmosphere was nice. Love the place to go sit by the water and have a drink. Although I probably wouldnt eat there again. Our nachos(appetizer) were over done and came out 30 seconds before our dinner. fish tacos looked like they came frozen in a box, tortillas and fries were cold. Steamed veggies came out on our plate in a bag? When we said something to the waitress, she didnt offer us anything or to take anything off the bill.

As a long-time baller Ive always attributed this place as having its cougar game on point. The food is your typical bar-style grub, but thats not the focus of this establishment. Castaways caters to those who demand a highly sentimental yet consistently renewed clientele. Im happy to sleep easy knowing a place like Castaways is standing and hasnt succumb to natural disasters.

The 1-lb burger was seasoned very well and tasted amazing! Great service, plenty of space to eat in and luckily on a hot 100 degree weather they had A/C inside so it was very comforting. The deck of the river view is also nice. While across the street at the Farm is nice, sometimes it can be very busy there so this is another location to consider if you want comfort food!

Castaways is the pinnacle of Dover nightlife. The ambiance is overwhelming and Im proud to call this place my home away from home. If I had one night left on this planet we call Earth, I would spend it here singing karaoke with my dearest friends. When I die, sprinkle my ashes across the Tiki bar. Yours truly, Dolladollamill (add me on snapchat ;) )

Used to come here a lot for the Margaritas. Now, not so good, sad. The calamari is very disappointing too. Probably frozen. Took a short walk to the Farm. What a difference! Dont know what happened to Castaways, I hope they can get back on track. Maybe chef Ramsey needs to pay a visit.

If had to do a food challenge with this... I couldnt, because I would be dead by the time I finally got it. Terrible service, I ordered a lobster roll and it was made with a mix of shrimp, haddock and another type of random seafood. This reminds me of my middle school cafeteria.

I have been to Castaways in Dover at least 15 times in the past 3 or 4 years !!! I am never disappointed. Steaks and Seafood are the best. High end food with comfortable prices !!! Its a piece of Portsmouth without the drive !!!
