Brine – Newburyport, MA – 3/28/2016 What a neat little town... A slice of old time americana… Brick buildings and light posts line the street… And nessled in the middle of all this wholesomeness is a gem of a restaurant called Brine… I just got a very good vibe about this place from the minute I walked up to it… My server Jenny was extremely friendly and was quick to point out the specials on their menu… The bread… Housemaid focaccia bread made fresh every day with an all natural olive oil… really, really good… The Appetizer… Clam and pork chowder… Crispy pork belly, potatoes, littleneck clams… all of this in a white broth… Quite delicious… The Salad… Laughing bird shrimp Panzanella… Escarole, avocado puree, pickled red onion, thinly sliced radish and old bay vinaigrette… The shrimp are native to Belize… Very nicely put together quite different the usual salads you get in most restaurants today! After so many dinners out its nice to get something different… From the sea… The Arctic Char… Grilled to perfection and then topped with a herb & Pig crust, cranberry beans- almost like a kidney bean but different…, butternut squash and a smooth cranberry sauce artfully spread onto the plate… What a totally different and amazing place! The desserts look absolutely fantastic but given the number of meals I enjoy out during the week I felt it in my best interest to just have my signature cappuccino… Thank you for the awesome service Jenny…

I can imagine this place has great intentions. it is by far the best option in area, BUT it was not all there today. I hate to say it but the bar tender was not up to the task. staff, in general seemed less then stellar. The Food, crudo, Himachi, was good! The salad, quinoa was ok, old Tomatoes. The po boys seasoned well, GENERIC bread!! Wine/Cocktails, wine selection was good. Bloody Mary was spicy in a good way but the temperature was warm of the drink. I would recommend this place, but I would recommend some sort of motivation to re-improve what might be a great place.

Great $1 Oyster afternoon experience. The rest was underwhelming for the price. Overly salty (extremely) soup. For the Main course we had fish dish that was a very small portion for the price and it came with a side of vegetables that were very salty and poorly prepared. Not small child friendly. They did have a high chair but no changing table in the bathroom. They were very kind and tried to be considerate of us having children there. Good service overall and pleasant people. Narrow space, not ideal with a stroller but we made it work near the bar.

This cozy, high-end alcove of a restaurant/bar always results in wonderfully special night out. The staff members treat guests as friends while educating them on the unique and often very unexpected menu items. If you opt to try out the daily oyster selections, try each kind as it gives true perspective on how different each breed and location are from one another (and request every kind of sauce too!)

Terribly overpriced. Lacked flavor. The Salmon was cooked, just cooked. No seasoning, no braising, no searing, no nothing. Just plain salmon, lemon was not even offered. Drinks overpriced. Oysters could not have been smaller. Noisy staff. I saw lots of artistic flair on the plate but no creative tastes to back it up. Waste of $150 for 2. Service was good.

Never have had a meal that we did not love. Wait staff is professional and freindly and the bartenders make a great drink and they have a great drink menu. We have been very impressed with the wines that they offer and we have attended several of the wine/food pairings, which are fabulous.

Ultra fresh seafood, wonderfully prepared dishes, excellent service, innovative cocktails and a well thought out wine list make this a five star restaurant. However, the interrogation room lighting, especially at the bar, just ruins the ambiance.

A diamond in the rough. Amazingly sourced oysters. Halibut Crudo is a must, along with the mussels. Could use a butter knife to cut the filet, cooked perfect every time. Get the Bacon & Eggs for desert! #JustDoIt

The seafood is superb, but with a tourist clientele, the prices seem 10-15% higher most other offerings. Always busy with a small space.
