Its funny this restaurant is located just across the street from one of the most popular Chinese restaurant offering American style Chinese food, where Szechuan Garden specializes in the more authentic less often seen Chinese dishes. Yes, they do have the old standard stand bys of sweet and sour pork, egg rolls and fried rice, but the real gem is the Chinese menu. I dont read Chinese and neither does my BF, but they will gladly explain what is on the menu. The standard menu is really not all that exceptional, but the authentic menu is really good. Ive forgotten about this place since 168 Café opened, but its still very good here. This was the first restaurant where I had the Lionhead Meatballs.......wow is all I can say! You have to order this one 24 hrs in advanced. Ive had the whole steamed ginger and soy fish, salty dried fish fried rice, black mushrooms in oyster sauce and various other seafood. The interior looks just about the same as it always has, and the service is attentive as ever. It never seems to crowded in here. Ill try not to forget about this place for so long next time. The dining experience here is a bit more formal then it is over at 168 Café, for real Chinese food. This place has been here for more then 20 years!

I was driving across town and thought Id try a new place. I got two entrees and the chicken salad to go. The staff was fine. However, all the dishes were incredibly bland including the "spicy" beef with garlic sauce. I ate about a quarter of the chicken dish (which was comprised of small cubed chicken and vegetables) before throwing it out. There was no saving it. I had to season the beef dish myself. The chicken salad was average at best. While the cost was reasonable for Chinese food in general, there are tastier options in town.

Love this place! Owners are very nice and they serve great food. Not the fanciest place but its clean, food is always very good. The hot & sour soup is so delicious. AND DAMN SPICY. Since they make every dish to order, you can tell them to dial up the spice if youd like. I always go with Kung Pao Chicken or Generals Chicken and I ask them to turn up the heat for me. They gladly do.

Best Chinese food in Reno and comparable to the great Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area, where I lived for many years. Its a hidden gem in my opinion because Ive never seen it that busy. They have two menus. One is typical "American-Style Chinese fare but the other one is more authentic. I prefer the authentic one. I highly recommend this place.

I tried to call for carry out and the woman must have been annoyed at my questions because she put me on "hold" where she set the phone down and after a couple minutes she hung up on me. Im taking my business elsewhere.
